Greece 2022

Looks great buddy,We've moved on a bit but got diverted to the motorway and from there onto the bridge. She had a word with the staff who opened up a service gate for us to get off.We are now parked up about 12 kicks from the bridge. This will do for the night but not as good as your spot.

Glad your making progress. Sorry we missed you this morning. Mena already decided we will stay here for more than one night so will make the most of it. Both showered and Wirlygig up for washing now soaking in bucket. Black and white twin dog here too and sleeping next to motorhome in shade.

We sadly said fairwell to Martin & Sue this morning as we cross into the Peloponnese and they head off in the direction of Turkey. We always enjoy being in there company and as always look forward to when we meet again.
The Ferry crossing was a doddle straight on and away in minutes. Eleven euros and a very smooth and quick crossing.
We have arrived at our first stop and it's a FLT's paradise. Next to and part of a beach restaurants it has everything on offer to the campers for free, with the exception of electricity. Black and grey waste disposal clean water, all free and a cool beach with chairs and sunshades. It must be good because it's filling up very fast and I suspect one or two may stay here for quiet a while. A top, top place.
Parked up tonight at Tourlida having been distracted by a couple of days on Lefkada - which was wonderful!! Our plan to loop around the Peloponnese will have to wait until another time as we need to go into Turkey on 23 May - we will be up to 80 days in Schengen then and so don't want to delay any longer because we want to keep 10 days in hand just in case we need to cross Europe back to the UK for any reason before the first of the 180 days start dropping off!

Was really nice to meet you both, and Martin & Sue, at Ammoudia for a chat. Enjoy the Peloponnese!

Mr Ed, what crossing are you using to enter Turkey? We are thinking of going over at Kipi so we can head south to Canakkale and the ferry. Looking forward to it very much.

Good morning from Greece anouther scorching day. We are at a place called Ionio Blue beach bar near Mprina. Several motorhomes here now and as siad previously, a top, top place.
A few pictures from our journey here yesterday and last night's sunset. I've just watched two cats fighting at the top of a tree and the noise is bringing out all the campers, its vicious and no quarter given, Even the feral dogs have wondered over to see what's going on. I've found a great radio station too.

Question for you Greek geeks! How do we cook these? Are they ready to ear or require a BBQ, fring pan, boiling etc. More weird stuff to follow. ( You should see Mena's face when she looks at the stuff I have bought).

Our eldest granddaughter has come to the rescue and set herself up for future stupid grandparent questions. Thanks to all who looked for an answer and to all those who replied. It's an adventure if nothing else.

Yeah. I've done both in the past. Ferry is more fun, but you get better views from high up on the bridge. No idea what the prices are, I'll take your word for that.
Ferry 11 euro bridge 26-30 euro.

Hence ive never used the bridge

Blimey, that bridge has gone up, there only used to be a few €'s difference between bridge and ferry for a motorhome, ferry def a no brainer now.

Jackie had to pay €23 just for a vw t6 on that bridge. Couldn't believe it . Motorhome 2 axle is €26 and a tag is €30

Ferry everytime for me

Last time we crossed it was €17 for just a clio and that was seven years ago. I thought at the time it was a way to raise funds to try and pay off the troika!

Although we have only used one section of toll roads in Greece we do find them very expensive. VanMicelin costed a journey for us at 11..50 and the actual cost was 20.0. We will not use them again in Greece unless left with no option. Also explains why they were empty.

We lived there for 10 years and for many years most roads were free. The charges only really started after the financial crash. We put that down to the EU financing their construction and also in many cases supplying all the "proper" engineers (mainly from Germany), as Greece had no money, at least visibly, the EU would have never been able to pay for the construction without insisting on tolls, the crash made this easy to tie into Greece's bailouts. Despite all this ordinary Greeks are very generous and friendly, like in many Mediterranean societies the people don't like paying taxes so as a result the country as a whole will always stagnate. We love it dearly though

Planned to stay here just the one night and now our plans are changing on a daily basis and have no idea when we will leave here. Today has been outstanding.

I am glad you can drink Mythos as it leaves more Amstel for me.

Mythos, Alpha and the re-born Fix(in '70s and '80s was about all you could get)) have been making roads into the market in recent years.

Heineken and Amstel are on a par for me but Heineken is usually priced higher, and from my observation is preferred by middle-class 'nouveau riche' Greeks to demonstrate that they can afford it.

Yamas! anyway.

A Herman has pulled in next to us and put this on his awning which I assume is a windblocker type thing. Looks expensive too. Am I missing something here as I can't make sense of it.

More of a sunshade than windblocker. Not secured at base so would quickly flap in any hint of a breeeze.

Anouther fine day here, just taking it easy now, a shortish walk along the beach during the day and a bit of reading and a bit of drinking, the odd chat with my neighbours and relaxing. relaxing, relaxing. The Greeks have good English and as many of you will know, so do much of our European neighbours. A few ask us where we are from and they then ask general questions about life in the Uk. The B word has never been raised, oddly enough, on our previous trip into Spain and Germany it was never raised either and we had some good conversations with our European neighbours. If only we Brits could put it behind us too.
I'm using 1 P Mobile for all my calls, Txt and Data and its going very well. I purchased the 30 day 50GB package @£15.00 and that is capped at 14 Gb in Europe. So far I have only used about 5 Gb of data and I spend a lot of time browsing and reading newspapers and some social interaction with family and friends. I also use my phone as a hot spot and this works great for when Mena wants Internet. The connection has been faultless so far. All my calls home from here and the few we made in Italy are free too.
We are staying at least one more day, I'm now of the mind what we miss this time around we can get the next time. I cant see too many places being set up like here and we even get a free flyby from the F16 fighter jets mid mornings. There coming over in formation so must be practicing for something, I think. I'll have my camera nearby this morning and see what happens. I'm reading a smashing book a.t.m. Thunder Run by David Zuchinno. What a story, all fact and based on the USA 3 day battle run into Bagdad City in 2003. Those troops were outstanding, very highly trained, educated and motivated, with world class main battle tanks (Just as well or they would have been slaughtered with the amount of fire they came under).
A few pictures from yesterday.
