Latest update from France

Fingers crossed Boris will keep pushing the vaccine and the restrictions will be lifted quickly hopefully before our planned trip late July.

I posted the latest official information for anyone with travel plans thinking it was useful but it attracted the usual remarks .

The abuse the french get on here if it was targeted at Israel it would be anti Semitic or at a Muslim country would also be classed likewise .
But France appears to be fair game and passes off as just a joke . But remember we do have a french member of this group and you are insulting her country and please note she does not reciprocate.

I find your posts very useful so please don't stop.

Unfortunately some people, despite their well publicised views on this forum of their intense dislike of France, seem to actively seek out France related posts in order to reinforce their view to others. I wouldn't let it bother you.

Guys, Chris is the guy who doesn't like France, He'll jump on all references to it, mostly because he's done it for so long it's expected of him. 99.9% is done in jest. I think Frankie yodeli knows this very well.

OK, so I don't think he likes Macron too much. But then nor do most of France. '\

Jim I know Frankie well and know she does find it upsetting but politely says
little . Jest is fine but becomes offensive when it is continuous and although Chris is the main culprit he is not the only one .

Re Macron as someone on the ground he is certainly not loved by many but my neighbours just yesterday said we didn’t like him but now think he isn’t so bad so next years elections will be interesting .

You love the place someone doesn't. Who's view is the most valid?

Should I ban people who say they don't like France, or ban those who love it so much they live there?

Or maybe we could just accept others views, or ignore them.

Jim I am happy to ignore people but just remember it takes the most bashing and appears to be acceptable . Not sure I have seen the same leeway given to other comments which are considered out of line .

Thanks Pam (spitfire) ! You always think of my "ego". Now what Chris (and mainly him) says , most of the time I know it's blablabla, and even though he thinks what he says , and honestly I think that sometimes he's acting a bit , funnily I don't take it personnaly.
While on other threads and/or subjects, I find some posts really offensive. Most of the people acting that way don't know me or if they do just by name (not in flesh) don't even give a damn. What I find difficult to cope with is a general way of speaking, be it about French or anything else indeed. Probably my education... but I tend to frequently think that what I get, I might just have deserved it, me personnaly or as a citizen of a country. Just a quick example: Eurovision.
France has been at the bottom many times. Whatever the reason, be it political or song not really in the right move, or singer not being at his/her best, French people will say : Ah well we haven't been good mates let's see next year... and that's it.
Some countries don't like ours ... ok... fair enough! I suppose it's a matter of culture. Hence may be why so many strikes here. We don't like something, then we move our a***e to change things. We don't put it on someone else to be the reason why or wait for someone else to solve the said problem(s). Of course what I say here is very general. Each person in a country is different from another one. This is also something which now and then hurts me. Being put in the "same basket". I feel so different from what I sometimes read. It makes me sad ... sometimes.

I try.... just try... to forget about it, and carry on my way. One thing I can say is that I would not like to be on another forum. I like this one as part of my family... and you probably know that arguing in a family is a standart.

You are too sensitive. 99% of people here love France and it's camping car facilities and many tour there every year. For every post knocking France you will find 500 that are positive about the place. Enjoy those and stop focussing on the negative.

So it appears that only 3 per cent of those infected by the "Indian" mutation were fully vaccinated with both jabs. Obviously the media can't say but the outbreaks seem to be in areas where a number of people for various reasons did not want the jab even though the evidence shows that their reasons for not having it were groundless.
However the media seem to be bigging (sic) the whole thing up. I despair I really do

But in the context of being allowed to travel into France it matters little what does matter is we have more of a variant of concern and they quite understandably don't fancy it. Why it arrived here is open to question but a big factor must be how slowly we shut down travel maybe France is learning from our mistakes. I'm pretty sure at some point travel will be allowed again as the variant is bound to leak into Europe from here and get more prevalent over there from the cases that are there already. It's just wait and see and hope that it doesn't become too big a problem here.
If I lived in another country with say 60% of the population not fully vaccinated and a new variant becoming common somewhere else I would be really happy if the government stopped travel for fun the benefits wouldn't outweigh the risk

You can't seriously expect the media to tell the truth, long gone are the days of reporting facts it is all about creating a story now, certainly in the UK anyway. Still hope to make France later in the year, have to wait and see.

Happy to not be constrained 😬

We love France and lots of French folk, it’s their government that stinks.
I hope and think the majority of anti France posts are aimed at the pathetic shenanigans of the French politicians .

I totally agree with you. We love France, so looking forward to going back but with the French vaccination rollout being poor in comparison to ours we understand it being on the amber list and understand the French seizing on this new mutation as a reason.
J'espere que nous reviendrons l'annee prochaine.

Look - I wont post any more anti French comments.

I promise it is mostly said in jest and as a nation they are sometimes an easy target.

So from now on its ferme le bouche on France (or something like that )

That just about sums up the French - a blank screen:rolleyes:
Chris - don't understand the reference but relatively new to the forum so would love if you took the time to explain it to me - TIA

I do not think there is any room anywhere for accepting that the 1% have a right to so speak. They have a right to think it but not voice it. It's not about being too sensitive. I thought it was Rule 1.
Rule 1 is about being nice to other members, France isn't a member. So if someone wants to be unkind to France it's not against rule 1 or any other.

Being English and proud of it, I know full well that it hurts when people criticise your country, especially when they are using centuries old prejudice. But it's water off a ducks back and it doesn't hurt enough to get upset about, life's far too short.

We have crossing booked in July and September to France and a holiday in January in Austria. Whether they happen or not who knows. I wouldn't expect their governments to put my like of a holiday above the health of their citizens neither do I think they are desperate for my money at the expense of their wider economy.

Quite so.
Chris is only nurturing his hard won Victor Meldrew reputation.
I find his misplaced Francophobia predictable, light-hearted and rather entertaining.

Hi

For us its about returning to our house in Spain after a 5 month ban.

We want to prepare it for Summer rentals (Spanish and EU Residents). I do have some bookings with Villa Plus, but wether they go ahead or not is another matter.

As for UK touring. It is not really for us. We will take a trip up to Islay to stay with friends and some weekends away. I am not much of an Aglophile, unfortunately . So the motorhome will be mostly parked up.
Same here but house in France. We have a season to prepare for and had planned to do that in June as we haven't been able to realistically travel there since last October.

I'm trying to get guidance on whether our 'compelling reason to visit France' comes under their heading.

'' Compelling professional reason that cannot be postponed (specify):''

I'm not sure whether they class property letting as a professional reason - though they are happy to tax us on that basis! All of our rentals are for French nationals this year.

We love England and lots of English folk, it’s their government that stinks.
I hope and think the majority of anti England posts are aimed at the pathetic shenanigans of the English politicians .
Quote altered for balance from a Welsh perspective:LOL:
