Caravan and Motorhome Club price hikes.

Average B&B in say Chester is around £85, and rather than your own, your sleeping in someone else's dirt. If B&Bs were ¼ of the price of a pitch, I'd still stay in my van.
I live in Chester.I have also been head housekeeper at a nice hotel.I’ve also got a motorhome. Each to their own but please don’t put b&b down as like the people selling motorhomes everyone has to make a living.

We too left the club. See other threads. We are happy to pay reasonable prices but as we use little of the “facilities” we basically park, service and leave. £45 is just plain too expensive. One by wonders what kind of dreadful power deal the clubs have negotiated if they have to raise prices so much.
I remember being shouted at for filling our water tank on a CC site. “We are on a water meter you know ». So our 100 ltr tank would cost a few pence to fill up and we paid pound for the night.
So..,.. we are looking at Europe

Possibly the move towards pods etc is looking at future proofing the business, it won’t be too long before it won’t be as easy to tow as electric vehicles take over and a lot of people will be looking at different types of holidays

Not for profit companies can and do make profits within trading accounts. If they stick to their principles, these are then reinvested in the assets, either existing or new. The restrictions are on those profits being removed from the business via dividends etc. So profit can be good if utilised to the benefit of customers such as upgrading facilities.

Not that I am aware. I meant for camping in general. For Bristol I'll just book into a nice hotel instead!!!
If you want something right in the centre it's a lot more than £45 a night , this is next Saturday on booking.com

It's not as bad as it sounds. We are missing a lot of independent sites that have sold to build houses, or are now full of statics. This does give the two big clubs the space to operate a duopoly and can put prices up at will.

However the UK's CL network is growing really fast. Motorhomefun have exempted 22 this year just in Scotland, and we are just one of a number of exempting organisations.

Already we have French people telling us how good our CL system is, a few more years, a few more enlightened councils and we'll see French camping cars sitting in their dusty Aires waxing lyrical about the superb camping facilities they have over there in the UK. (y)
Jim

I asked recently how we find a list of MHF CLs but received no response.

It is probably me, (it usually is), but I can’t find them on the site. We would certainly use them if we could find them.

Can you post how to find them, please?

Some massive companies like Network Rail are Not for Dividend but can make as much profit as they can, but it gets reinvested somewhere in the organisation.

Only difference is calling it a “surplus” rather than a profit lol 😂

Jim likes to keep them secret.
He's often promised a list, but, so far, the silence is deafening.

There's probably a good reason , but 🤷‍♂️.

When we are in the UK we do CAMC Cheshire Centre rallies. Twenty odd quid for a weekend with friends, usually some grub thrown in and some music. We do about 20 a year. It's a good way to get use out of our motorhome.

For other sites in the UK or Europe we use the Search for Sites app. For a fiver a year the info is good value.

To me it looks like all the Clubs and campsites have seen the sudden growth in motorhome/caravan sales and have jumped at the chance to made some money. Us old hands will always search for better value and CAMC and CCC Club Sites are not good value.

As a park owner I’d like to just give one set of figures. My gas and electricity bill for June 21 for one month was 4K. This June 11k. I’ll just leave that there
To be fair that doesn’t address one of the issues with a post. Pitch fee is for 2 adults.

He is a single person but then still has to pay a supplement for having a dog.

Come on that kind of attitude and inflexibility is taking the proverbial …..

That's 175% I don't doubt your figures but I I hadn't been aware that prices have risen to that extent. Is it because commercial prices are higher than domestic I wonder.
My company electricity bill rate has risen 50%

has a park owner 2 years ago our electric including standing charge climate change levy etc cost us 13p per unit last november that went up to 37p per unit our broker told me last week that from renewal in november to look at prices all in around 59 p per unit do can you imagine the uproar if i put my nightly electric charges up by this .

It's good to see your doing well, nice profit margins there I presume

Well you will have to, idea is to make money, and I'm sure you don't give freely

We are off to Bristol at the weekend. I was already thinking it was a rip off at £45 per night for 2 people. Only going because its where I grew up and the site is shutting soon.

Just received an email to say they are increasing prices due to electricity costs. not only that - they are asking us not to use the electricity as much as possible!!! (please use your solar instead!)

Back to CL sites in future.

Bristol City Centre (Finzels Reach) hotel £50.50 stranded double room, need I say more

Problem with long threads is they go round in circles. This was discussed pages back and months ago. Have done the stay at the site back in march (?) and enjoyed it I've changed my opinion slightly and accepted its probably worth paying. (note: I still balk against paying £45 for a campsite!)

Hmm...not sure how typical that is? Last minute booking? A random date in October brings the cheapest (non refundable) room at £125

I night, Standard Pitch with awning, 2 adults, £47.30…….
I’ve just had a five star beachside pitch for that! 200 yards to village and two pubs. On-site chip shop, supermarket, pub, beachside burger/ribs restaurant, two more restaurants and pool with games room. Now I understand why I didn’t rejoin the clubs.

Where?

Not in high season it wouldn't. Prices are all relatively to time of year you go & sites are always more expensive during Easter period.
8€ or £47 erm must think about that

Search4sites app lists them all CL and CS sites, along with Independent sites, some of which can offer same or better facilities than club sites for less money. I am currently stopping at Mount View Caravan Park at Abington, close to the M74 and Biggar, the site is far better than most CAMC sites I have visited and the facilities are spotless. £25 per night hard standing including EHU, and no extra charge for Showers etc.

Just realised you were asking about the MHF sites I think they are listed on CAMpRA Aires map.

I had same email in june before our trip to devon cheek of it hype the prices but put onus on us not to use too much lecy! I am finding now the clubs prices are matching private parks which have loads of facilities, they could be pricing themselves out of the market.

Thanks.

We would like to support MHF members who have set up CL’s. Will check CAMpRA as suggested.
