Caravan and Motorhome Club price hikes.

If you would like to visit Bristol or Bath join one of our Fun Rallies here at Woodside Field. Or visit our CL, we have 2 local pubs and close to M4. No need to be spending nearly £50 a night when you already have all your own facilities on board.

Thanks for the invite. It's not quite Bristol though. I really don't mind paying £50 for Bristol to be honest. It's a superb location and actually a reasonably cost effective way of staying in central Bristol.

We're on a CAMC CL next week outside Exeter - full service water and EHU, drive over grey disposal for £20.
5 Pitches but have been told we are the only booking for the night
Update: On the site - only van in 5 pitches. Nice and quiet. Drive over grey disposal, black waste point, water and EHU - £20 per night
Interesting that the site owner phoned me last night to ask my view in advance as he was thinking of changing pricing with option of with or without EHU - prompted by a van that stayed last week 3 nights = £60 but used 140kw of leccie which = £40. He was not a happy bunny but does seem extreme usage. Can only think the hair dryer, fan heater and microwave came into play somewhere?

Wow, that’s some leccie useage. Sounds like the CL owner is doing exactly the right thing to protect his business.

That is why you are having to pay £20pn for a CL, especially since you are the only one booked.

I hope you supported charging Leccy separately.

Now we all have choices one is to object, no one is forcing you to use the electric point but the person before and after you probably will so what’s the issue?
You are of coarse correct....
No one forcing you too use EHU...but some sites force you to pay for it.... even if you don't use it..

My guess is you do not drive around every inch of tarmac or prepared roadway on a site or where there are multiple facilities they exist on site no one is forcing you to use these but they exist and are paid for out of your site fee. It’s the same notion as hedges trees grass flower beds or even dog walking area’s it all exists and some one has to pay for the site maintenance. I could argue we do not have dogs so why should we pay for the dog walking area !

What a silly and ridiculous comparison....

Why?

Metering will come in to play once the sites have sorted themselves, but paying for facilities will come out of site fees, just because you do not use a facility does not mean a site owner will not wish to cover the cost of provision because an individual does not use that facility. The electric post, the install, the maintenance isn't going to come out of a metered charge, if you run a business you know that would be silly and to be honest commercially reckless.

I go back to my point just because there are facilities on site and an individual chooses not to use them doesn't mean the do not pay for them out of the site fee.

I do not expect you to agree, but there are a lot of things in life we contribute to but have no way of not paying, how about all those people who pay NI and never make it retirement age and pick up a pension, what about people like my wife and I who do not have kids should we have a rebate because we pay for schools. Regarding site electric use yes by all means meter what people use and charge particularly given the high cost of power but a reduction because you don't use a particular site facility probably not as that is a choice.

After all the price hikes, I noticed a recent announcement by CMC…..”Back by popular demand, 50% OFF midweek discounts are now available, plus we've added a new 15% family saver too.” Limited offer!

Maybe members voting with their feet is starting to have an impact?

Did a couple of those midweek offers last year. Was really good. Sites in Norfolk and Cotswolds.

But you now have to book 28 days ahead and before May 2nd (I think I have that correct). And the family offer are very largely for term time dates unless you are in Scotland.

I can’t be arsed with loads of terms & conditions so probably won’t bother to check it out.

I appreciate that the low/mid/high seasons are differant in Scotland than the rest of UK, due to our differant school calander, but could you please explain what you mean by "Family Offers etc"
If you come to Scotland or are in Scotland you will still get the same family offers, but they will revolve around our school calendar and not the rest of UK.

Besides the midweek discount the CAMC have introduced a family offer. I think the old one used to be a child for a £1. This one is, I believe, a reduction in pitch price. However, like the mid week discount it only applies to certain sites and particular dates. The dates are very largely term time for English and Welsh schools. However, for Scottish schools, more dates coincide with school holidays. On the CAMC forum there is some consternation at the club apparently encouraging families to take children out of school.

There’s always a lot of consternation on the CAMC forum! 😉 How many ‘content has been removed’ today?

I thought most campsites charged for dogs, so others do not pay for dogwalking/shitting areas.

If it is 'by popular demand' then why is it a 'limited offer'?

PR bullsh*t?

It may be inflation plus the cost of living plus people having to go back to the office to work or at least be more available. I suspect it’s a range of reasons

I don’t have a dog so no idea about that, but don’t the sites charge per person ?

Yes I did - he asked me to use the EHU as I normally would and for an exercise, he would take a meter reading before I arrived and after I left and if I was interested, he would let me know what my usage was, which I said yes please.
So arrived Tuesday afternoon - did my usual - had heating on gas and electric mix with hot water at the peak times of needing it, no TV/radio, laptops and phone on charge.
Left yesterday morning.
Owner rang me today to say I had used 30.5 Kw electric which on his tariff (domestic) which amounted to £10.21. I was pretty surprised but not as surprised as when he asked me to send him the £10.21 as a supplementary payment - which on principle I refused as I had pre-booked at an agreed price.
On the subject of not using facilities included in the cost, I did tell him I hadnt used the fresh water as I didnt have an adapter to fit his unusual tap (and the new Whale submersible pump didnt want to work out of my aquaroll), nor did I use the drive over grey waste disposal as the manhole was so close to the fence, that I couldnt get the van near enough as the Bailey has a centre van drain point. I did however use the cassette disposal point ( a toilet in the open with a flush tank and all!) and I did admire the view across the hills.......

When they used to add on electric it was £5 a night but you used less than that so what was he on about??

He said I used 31kw at 34p per kw = £10.21. Staggered at usage tbh for 1 night but principle of trying to charge more after the event was wrong when the site was booked 3 months ago all inclusive of leccy, water etc

That’s a lot of leccy for a 24hr period. Have you got a cannabis farm?

If you have a smart meter at home plug your van in and see what you use you will be surprised. We had ours on before we went away last month, fridge on, heating on mix2 at 16 degrees and it used nearly a tenner a day so using it with lights maybe a kettle etc it soon racks up.

We have booked a site in southern France for a few days to meet someone whose tent camping there. All pitches are ehu optional. They all have ehu but if you don't want to use it you don't have to pay the extra, which if you do approximately doubles the price. I don't know how this works in practice till we get there, possibly a lock of some sort.
