Are you still going away?

We were going to Ireland for a couple of months then to Norway for three months. We've put both trips on hold.

I don't fancy being ill miles from anywhere in Norway or, for that matter, in Ireland!
You will be alright in Ireland, half the ventilators used all around the world are made there.

Southdowners - both of those countries are first world despite one of them not being an EU member and there are many potential benefits in being miles from anywhere when plague and Black Death are rampant.

Cancelled P&O crossing to France an hour ago ?

I reckon there is more chance of this 72 year old man dying of a heart attack caused by a night of wild, lust filled passion at the hands (and other parts of the body) of a pair of blonde, identical 20 year old Scandinavian ladies than this coronavirus stuff...

If your chances are that good, can you let me have their number?

Well done for hanging on - at least you will get all your money back now:giggle:

Have to say our local independent TA has been superb as has Emirates who have offered full refund or different dates our choice, I’m taking refund. As we had several hotels and car hire booked the TA is working through that.

To answer my original question; it doesn't look like we'll be going away now!
Have to wait and see though if we can just go to somewhere quiet and away from everyone.

My son’s flight to Germany on May 19th has just been cancelled. Hi German teacher says she’ll try to take him with her via London. We’ll see.
Wondering if we can go to our house in Torridon in a fortnight. We see no one so fingers crossed.

Camperfest cancelled in Chester so I have always had an idea to revisit the Barmouth / Cader Idris region of Wales (many trips there from school).
So I have booked the "last" Motorhome pitch nearby. We don't intend mixing in any crowded environment, will walk and cycle every day so don't feel like we are going against any isolation recommendations?

No. Due to go this weekend but don’t feel it’s ok to be selfish and do as we please regardless. The sooner we all get the message the sooner this will be over and we can all wander free again.

Just cancelled the ferry for our May/June venture over to Shetland ?

It was already on the cards due to my house being up for sale and the possibility of a move to Scotland around the holiday period, but after yesterday’s ‘none essential’ travel advice, we made the decision last night to cancel the trip.

Search for Mulberry Harbour construction, basically they built concrete boxes, floated them into position then filled them with seawater to sink to the sea bed. There are still a few in the UK namely at Portland in Dorset.
And Bognor Regis.(bits of)

EasyJet cancelled our flights tO/from Bologna. They refunded only 70% of our ticket price.... am trying to get hold of them to get the remaining 30%.... Anybody ever tried to actually speak to a person at Easyjet?
Refund still processing according to "manage my booking".
I've been trying to speak with premier Inn for 2 days. Although we have a non flexible booking the website has made changes because of the outbreak

certainly not. My 9 year old granddaughter has put her foot down. I am passed 70 with two underlying health problems, and I was told that she would go shopping for me! So no we are not going abroad or home, and our three month trip to Italy starting early May appears to be sunk. I feel sorry for the workers who will be without money coming in the next few months and those that will get this awful virus.

Yeah I know. However, the year before last I was in need of medical care in Norway and we had to travel by road nearly 100 miles and two ferry crossings to get to the hospital. I'd rather be at home if I were to be ill.

for anyone cancelling flights, ferries etc - the advice is to get a refund in full as opposed to vouchers or credit as if any companies dont make it through the coming recession, then you wont get your money back

isn’t it amazing what difference just three days have made to this thread

here’s hoping we get back to normal before the summer is over ??

Sometimes you just got to get away for your own well being, both physical and mental.

Do what you have to do for your own health, but also be mindful of others and respect their decisions.

When I read all the problems of getting off GB, or not, I realise how lucky we are to live in Continental Europe with a MH and normally just be able to pack up, start the engine and go N-E-S-W.

Even now, with the borders closed, we have all of Poland to explore - MH goes in for service tomorrow.

Also, so far, we have only 205 confirmed virus cases and 5 deaths(all related to other medical problems), but maybe we have not reached the exponential curve.

Good luck with your own and family's safety folks.

Geoff

I don't really see the problem with Motorhome holidays as long as you take precautions. We travel totally in our own environment and can be reasonably self sufficient, all you really need are food water and fuel.
You are not only in your own environment. Every time you shop, dine in restaurant, drink in a bar, stay at a campsite, fill with water fuel or gas or dump your waste you increase the chances of spreading the disease, either to you or from you.
It would surely be more fun being out than stuck at home for months and wouldn't the businesses benefit from having customers?
So increasing the risk that people will die is Ok as long as you are having more fun?

And most of the businesses are closed, in order to help stop further spread of the virus. And for those that aren't, see my previous comment.

I know how to get a heart attack....but how do you get your hands on these scandinavian twins?

We have cancelled our trips to Truro, North Devon and the Highlands in May. I despair at the number of people still intent on going to the Highlands. The health care provision is designed to deal with the population that lives there and not from an influx of visitors who may potentially have the virus. Hoping that the action taken by the government is going to b short term pain for long term gain.
