Are you still going away?

On a related note..... MH currently parked outside the house. Myself or my partner can self-isolate if we get symptoms in comfort?

You are not only in your own environment. Every time you shop, dine in restaurant, drink in a bar, stay at a campsite, fill with water fuel or gas or dump your waste you increase the chances of spreading the disease, either to you or from you.

So increasing the risk that people will die is Ok as long as you are having more fun?

And most of the businesses are closed, in order to help stop further spread of the virus. And for those that aren't, see my previous comment.
Taken somewhat out of context? but we obviously wouldnt be dining and drinking anywhere out of the mh.

IMO the businesses ( of which I am one) will need to return to normality asap as soon as this is under control, the best way to do that is not to deviate any further than necessary from normality during it. the people stripping the shelves of supermarkets are probably being far more antisocial.

.The other report was an interview with a lady( in her 60,s I think) who caught the virus in New York and became ill on her return, yes she was very poorly for 3 days or so then gradually recovered, Her husband in the same building (he kept away from her) did not get the infection. So what I take from this is the old adage Stay calm and carry on. Just use common sense.
I was watching that, the BBC cut the end off the recorded clip, well we couldn't have positive news like that, they need to spout off the doom and gloom.

We have cancelled our trips to Truro, North Devon and the Highlands in May. I despair at the number of people still intent on going to the Highlands. The health care provision is designed to deal with the population that lives there and not from an influx of visitors who may potentially have the virus. Hoping that the action taken by the government is going to b short term pain for long term gain.
Yes that;s one of the reasons we've cancelled. We live 5 minutes from our local hospital and can access good health care quickly if we need it. I wouldn't want to be in the Highlands somewhere and give them the problem of looking after us in such a rural area.

How long would it take you to drive home? - you'll know you're coming down with it for days

Still seems risky to me. Probably 10 hours on unfamiliar roads from Thurso to Lancaster with maybe one or two ill people shedding virus along the way every time we stop.

It was exactly within context. Your follow on post that I also quoted suggested that you would be frequenting the local businesses. But in any event the rest of the activities that I listed will provide plenty of opportunity to spread the virus.

You seem to be putting your money before lives with your reference to your business. The best and quickest way of getting over this emergency and returning to "normality" is for every one of us to take every precaution they can to stop or at least slow down the spread of this virus. And if that involves not having fun, or causing your business problems, so be it. It is a price worth paying in my opinion.

My wife and I are both over 70. I am in good health but my wife has some medical problems that make her higher risk. Her survival and, to a lesser extent, mine depend upon everybody, including you and ourselves, making every effort to prevent the spread of this virus. Otherwise we may not live to see your "normality" return.

Have you grasped the importance of this crisis yet?

What age are you both ?

I have been told that each ventilator requires the equivalent of 5 nurses to operate it safely, 24/7. Many nurses do not wish to accept the responsibility which this entails.

How to phrase this without being accused of politicizing the problem?

Boris promised to recruit the extra 50 000 nurses of which we were already short before the election, "possibly" as a result of "prudent" financial actions over the last 10 years. Will any of these be available by the time UK manufacturers are delivering the new ventilators?

Trump is being accused of trying to buy a German pharmaceutical company which may have a vaccine available "soon" and keeping their product exclusively for US usage.

By leaving the EU and its organisations, including European Medicines Agency, we will not have direct access to their testing and validation regime so any vaccine manufacturer will have to decide whether to prioritize getting their product through EMA tests (500 Million potential customers) or through UK tests (70 Million potential customers), once a UK testing authority has been set up.

We came back from holiday early and will be staying in splendid isolation for however long it takes and hoping that neither of us gets CV, as we are both "almost" 70y old and both have underlying medical problems. No-one is welcome to camp on our drive!

Here Here to most of that!!! Boris has told us so many lies and promised us so much, how much of it have we seen to date? And if he still goes ahead with brexit after this lot, he has got to be further off his trolley than even the worst of us can believe. The country will be so in debt after this plus all the budget promises. Bruce

Her photos of the place are lovely, her only problem is she left the majority of her clothes with a family friend in Sydney so she’d need to buy more if staying. She also mentioned it’s more expensive backpacking plus she doesn’t have a work visa and I’m running out of money ??
Too much information about the clothes!!

We’ve stayed there quite often, you can stay for free or pay for a pitch with EHU. They have a new shower block with lovely hot showers and cassette emptying point. If you go to Glenshee they too have EHU but it’s first come first served so no guarantee.

We prefer Glencoe as had a lovely big log cabin cafe which unfortunately went on fire a few weeks back but they’ve taken delivery of a large temporarily one.

If you go to Glencoe mid week you’ll more than likely have it to your self, check their FB page for snow updates
I have all those facilities in my back garden! But the view is not so good, could always put the telly on and pretend, Shit I might as well go in the house and look out and wish I was away in the van.

I reckon there is more chance of this 72 year old man dying of a heart attack caused by a night of wild, lust filled passion at the hands (and other parts of the body) of a pair of blonde, identical 20 year old Scandinavian ladies than this coronavirus stuff...

JJ
Depends if yodeli catches you

Have you any awareness, at all, of the shitstorm that is happening in the rest of the world?
This is bigger than Brexit, Boris or your tunnel vision political bias :banghead:

How can you forget it, it's cost us too much money for nothing, money that we could do with now to help people now so it would go to a good cause and save lives. Is that about two I have got on my hook, I can feel something tugging??!!

WE might as well stop now, we are all getting a bit carried away,I don't feel like going round is circles any more, I am very aware of what's going on in the world, thats why I am viewing these posts, sometimes we just can't help commenting on peoples views or sharing agreement with them. See how nice I am being now. I would gladly shake your hand at this point but...............

Coronavirus!!

Well we are going to continue going away.
Just back from a few days away.
Other than booking in, we were completely isolated and self sufficient.
Sites we were on, we offered to pay over fone when booking.
Other than being handed site info on arrival no contact with anyone other than in the passing saying `Hi` to whoever, which we would do at home.
Only risk we put ourselves at was shopping at Aldi on way home, pushing a trolley and paying, then having to queue in Bank because all cash machines are empty and touching money, but again thats something we would have to do at home.
If there is a `Lock-down` yes we will stick to the stipulation but other than that life has to carry on.
Obviously give consideration to others, adhere to the obvious and do not jeopardise anyones health including our own.
In fact getting out into some healthy fresh air and getting some excercise does the world of good as opposed to sitting in the house watching daytime TV with the heating on all day.
In addition to that, giving some degree of income to buisnesses that will ultimately suffer for at least this year.
I am sure some peops will have their own opinions about this but really what have we done that goes against official advise?
The advise is do not make unnecessary journeys, thats in reference to public transport (unclarified), wash your hands, do not bulk buy and hoard medications and some rather vague solutions like, dont go to pub, eat in restaurants or go to the flicks! If it were and I am sure it will be very soon, compulsory to adhere to these provisos we will.
There isnt a fuel shortage, there is plenty of food just no bog paper or antibacteriol hand cleaner. I made my own as I always have rubbing alcohol in garage for using on our vehicles and avoided unnecessary human contact.
The only thing we have impacted on is to pump more diesel fumes into the atmosphere.
I am aware that peops have concerns for themselves, family members are others as we do, but I do not think locking yourself away, certainly at the moment is the answer.
I could be wrong but the experts and specialists cannot agree so I am quite sure it wont be resolved here.
Anyway everyone take care.

So you did not use or touch the toilets, showers, basins, freshwater taps, waste dumping point, dustbins or EHU post? Because if you touched any of those it will mean you were not as isolated as you think. Any of those types of activities can spread the virus. it is not just about standing near to somebody who coughs or sneezes.

Have you ever had flu ? Worst illness i have ever ever had..Would not wish it on my worst enemy,,BUSBY.
I have - once. Knocked wife & I out for three months and that was 20 years ago. I don't want it or anything similar ever again if I can avoid it.
