Are you still going away?

No wind-up - we're doing it. I'm not worried but have no difficulty following the Governments advice. We have absorbing hobbies that mean neither I nor my wife will become stir crazy. We have the motorhome for a couple of nights wild camping if we're desperate for a break. My concern is for my wife with reduced lung capacity (pneumonia a year or so ago) and asthma. She is less concerned than me but she needs to avoid the virus if at all possible.
Just put my motor on scorn lost my wife November at the time I would have said sod it and not botherd about stopping in but the kids have all told me moms gone we want you to be safe so thats what i am doing

Dear Mr xxxxx,

I know that many of you are concerned about the coronavirus situation and the impact it may have.

For me, being a part of a Club is so very important. As a Club we are a community of like-minded people, enjoying similar pursuits and pastimes. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support, and trust, in our Club.

For the past few days we have been focussing our attention on repatriating our members who were overseas and affected by the introduction of country-specific travel restrictions.

Now, I want to give you all a briefing on UK travel.

Booking with confidence:
Following on from recent Government announcements, we want to let you know that the majority of our UK campsite network is already open and ready to welcome you.

We know that some members may wish to change their overseas and UK travel plans, and we totally understand.

For UK bookings we recognise at the moment that members may need to amend a date or cancel a booking ‘last minute’. Until further notice, the Club will waive restrictions for late amendment or cancellation prior to arrival, including within 72 hours of arrival.

In line with Government advice, we have taken the decision to close our bars and restaurants on site.

For European travel, we’ll also be waiving Club amendment fees for all bookings, regardless of European travel destination or travel date.

Hygiene, enhanced cleaning & social distancing:
The safety and wellbeing of members, guests and staff is of paramount importance to us. We will continue to follow Government and Public Health England advice and guidelines.

We’ve introduced a number of measures including increasing the rigour of cleaning and sanitising products, and enhanced disinfecting of common surfaces across offices and campsites. In addition we are introducing a number of social distancing practices at our sites, in order to support government guidelines.

We would ask for your support in helping to keep everybody safe by regular hand washing, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds and supporting the social distancing practices. Posters have been placed on Club campsites as a reminder for all site visitors.

The Government has also introduced social distancing guidance - information is available here: gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-on-social-distancing-and-for-vulnerable-people

Stay up-to-date:
To ensure you remain up to date with the latest advice and information with this fast moving situation, please visit camc.com/whats-on/caravan-club-news/novel-coronavirus-advice/ which is being regularly updated with the latest information and advice.

Sadly our community, and indeed the world, finds itself in uncharted waters. These are unprecedented times we are living in. Now is the time we need to pull together and support one another, and our Club.

I want to reassure you all of the Club’s commitment to meeting this challenge. Thank you for your continued support, and I’m sure you will join me in recognising and thanking our dedicated staff who are all working incredibly hard to make sure we can continue to serve you, our members.

Cancelled our trip to Greece the other day. Thinking about a uk tour for about a week as sites are still open, but for how long. Have noticed that one or two sites are encouraging people to pay online so as to avoid human closeness in reception. Good idea. I can understand people on here still considering going away. We are mainly all getting old. We have paid large amounts for our MH's. with only so many years to enjoy them. A year of the virus could give us all less time. We can still introduce the same social distance measures if we are in our MH's so why not.

You can't maintain the same level of isolation as you can if you stay at home. Every time you use the site's showers, basins, sinks, toilets, EHU points, waste dump points, freshwater taps etc you risk either spreading the virus to those who use that facility next or picking up the virus from those who used it before. Same with picking up fuel and gas etc. The virus can survive for up to 72 hours, depending upon what surface it is on. That does not apply in your own home, because all of those things are not touched by others.

Do you think that the gendarmes would notice if I added a box to my attestation for "going on holiday" in French of course for added authenticity?

My voluntary retirement was agreed this week and I will leave my position on March 31st.

We are hoping to get away in the UK for a few trips in the MH, Corona permitting, and also plan to visit our son in Oxford

We'll keep our ear to the ground about potential sites which are still open as we're not ready for wild camping just yet....

Its very easy to protect yourself from all your scenarios though by simply using onboard facilities and washing hands before/after touching taps/fuel pumps etc.

We’ll be fulltiming in less than a month, staying in a house won’t be an option (as for many others) ;)

It's a dilemma.

On the one hand, the government's hope last week that if a large proportion of the population caught the virus [inevitably] then herd immunity would develop - but a large enough percentage had to be infected.
Apparently, for the young, the fit & the otherwise healthy, this would not be life risking as the symptoms would range from hardly noticeable to 7-10 days flu-like.

Their strategy appeared to be to keep this section of the population away from the at risk category by locking them down into self isolation. On paper, this could have worked but in reality?

So, on the face of it, it seems reasonable that those who judge it safe enough to go out in their motorhomes will only be mingling with those who have a similar disposition.
Those who feel they are at risk will be staying well away from the above group in a self imposed lockdown.

I hate using campsite facilities anyway, much rather use ours onboard, yours must be pretty good going by the mh on your avatar? Imo you can eadily deal with the rest by using disposable gloves about £5 a box 1 box has got hundreds in it.

We are full timers. Came back to UK in December for the birth of grandchild number 4. We had intended doing the NC 500 and other areas of the North from Easter through to July. Obviously that’s all on stand by. Having received the email from CMC yesterday, as we are presently using the Littlehampton site for three week blocks. I contacted the CMC to see if during this emergency they were going to suspend the three week booking rule. I await contact back from them .

Where did you see this?

I’ve definitely heard that one from an authorative source, can’t recall if it was Newsnight or BBC local news channel, but it definitely wasn’t Facebook. It was qualified tho’, depends on surface & conditions etc. Advice was if you can, leave shopping to one side for 72 hours before touching it, otherwise sanitise.

I don't think it will be quite that easy, but I do agree that using the motorhome's facilities and washing hands scrupulously every time you touch anything outside of the motorhome will considerably reduce the risk. The problem is keeping the discipline up and not running out of water. Or maybe get some disposable gloves would make is easier to. A few weeks ago we bought some boxes of the blue catering ones from our local cash and carry. Whether they will have any now in stock is another matter.

All we can all do is do the best we can to make sure we do not spread the virus or catch it. I think the best place to do that will be at home. After all the government's advice is to avoid any unnecessary travel and I doubt that many people will consider going on holiday really "necessary" in the present conditions.

But if you are a full timer then I agree that option is not open to you. But you can still do the best you can, but it won't be as easy as being at home I suspect. Good luck with whatever you do.

But I know I can. My decision and my efforts!
