A photo of the day thread

And does that mean ANYBODY can see it?
Yes & no :D2...

Once uploaded to YouTube, the default setting is "public" ie everyone can see it, and it appears on Google search... but you can change this to either;

  • "Unlisted" which means only those with the link, those with access to a forum such as this where your video is posted can see it.
    Theoretically it is still 'public' but as its unlisted it won't show up on any search and that person would have to guess the link... eg
    ...youtube.com/watch?v=8FDoBo25Lag
  • Or you set it to "Private" but that limits viewing to those specifically on your list, and that's limited to 50
Unless your video is very confidential or valuable - in which case I probably wouldn't be using YouTube - then I think "Unlisted" is probably private enough.

A few from Cosford Air Show, i am sure @DuxDeluxe will post a few more.

Just one more to show you what a pain heat shimmer can be when trying to photo low flying aircraft.

Inspired the work of the other funsters I took these shots while I was waiting to take pictures of a train. The website for the train was corrupted with google maps obscuring all relevant information. I suspected it would be diesel and it was - I had hoped for steam and cycled there for it. Still I need to lose weight.

First shot is of a beetle with red stripes. I have no idea what it is but I don't think it is a Colorado beetle because I believe that has yellow spots on the red back. It is a long time since we had the posters warning of them, back in the 80s I think.

Second picture is a lizard with another beetle - different species, I don't think I had ever seen a red beetle for real before today and just like buses two of them come along. This one I think was destined to be lunch. I looked away for a moment and only the lizard remained.

Camera used was a Sony Cybershot HX60 about a year old. I reckon these qualify as wild life!

It’s been raining sand in Spain and the crack is getting longer.

I took this shot just outside Maltby, Rotherham a few years ago when I worked there. I couldn't believe that the council had spent taxpayer's money on such a useless sign;

Another Rotherham shot. I used to go to Wentworth Woodhouse dog training and one day, when the 'Big House' was between owners, the caretaker let me have a look around. I had a small Olympus XA camera in my pocket and managed to take this snap while the custodian wasn't looking;

It is a crappy scan, but the processed print looks much better.

Is that Sir Jacks and Morrisons on the left?
Wentworth is supposed to have 365 rooms, one for every day of the year. I forget which Labour politician it was but in a fit of pique in order to assert his socialist beliefs against the landed gentry, he ordered open cast mining to be carried out to within about 12 foot from the rear doors. Wentworth has been used as a training college and badminton was played in the main hall. It has the longest frontage of any house in Europe and is currently the subject of a multi-million pound refurbishment.

Stayed overnight last night at Martel. My intention had been to ride behind the train but it turned out to be diesel during the week so I decided to make my way to Saint Jean du Gard. This was a mistake, I had suffered what I believe is referred to as a "brain fart" and the place I really wanted to be was Anduze where I am now. I drove into St Jean thinking "hang on, this is not right" and made the correction.

Anyway drawing a straight line on the map between Martel and Saint Jean du Gard threw up Les Gorges du Tarn. I thought they look interesting and I am not in a hurry so I will have a look. Dug out my Michelen France Atlas (I recommend this publication) and checked the route. There were height restrictions but all above my 3.2 metres (though a few of them did not feel like it when I went through them) and no weight restrictions.

I hope one day to be able to take snap shots from the dash cam as the drive was quite wonderful, despite the suicidal French drivers. I believe the French have developed a TCAS system for road use and this is only available to French nationals and totally. secret. I can't tell you where the views are but I just had to stop when I could find somewhere and take shots. I don't have enough Gb on line to upload the lot and would bore you all to tears anyway.

Looking forward to being in Grand Canyon du Verdon around the end of the week. Cheers Clive

As Drexxer says, Le Lac Bleu. With all the rain the pitches aren't great but the showers and toilets are the best we've ever experienced.
Hope it dries up as we are there two weeks today
