A photo of the day thread

Torro make good cases, I got the same colour for my iPhone X a few weeks ago and went for the red as I liked the contrast. You could have gone for one of their plain cases and saved ink, or do you like 'colouring in' ?

Excuse me Mr Kingham...

Two things wrong with this post.

1. You mention the "i" word.
2. You mentioned "red".

Nothing from Apple or red is allowed in my world!

JJ

Thanks:

Nikon d700 and Nikon 400mm 2.8
latter is for sale @ £2500 if anyone is interested.
I was sitting next to a very bitchy freelance professional photographer at the Windsor wedding. She was slagging some poor bugger off saying anyone can get good pictures if they spend thousands on cameras and lenses. I think she still has a bit to learn about taking good pictures...…. Well I did think this until I viewed your excellent pictures;):)

Alexi Lubomirski, the fella who took the photos of Harry & Meghan's wedding proved that expensive gear doesn't mean great photographs (The Black & White of Harry & Meghan on the steps could have been taken by a 10 year old with an iphone, it's truly a poor attempt for such an occasion by a pro).

"Good pictures", in my opinion, means great composition, interesting subject and something that draws you in. None of those things rely on having expensive equipment. Any camera can give you that however expensive equipment can't guarantee any of it.

However Bladerunner (just like my father has) has chosen a branch of the hobby that really DOES benefit from specialist (see: Expensive) gear, Wildlife. I don't do wildlife photography (not unless it walks out in front of me) but I know that "if it ain't sharp then it's nothing". Getting sharp, and I mean tack-sharp*, images of fast moving animals is extremely difficult without high-end gear.

Expensive gear doesn't guarantee amazing wildlife photos either. Assuming Bladerunner does what my father does then there are many, many hours (days, weeks) of sitting around, waiting for that rare moment when nature finally decides to do something spectacular in front of you.

My father's camera gear cost more than my first house but, like Bladerunner's photos, you can see the quality shine through. Fortunately I chose Landscape and Portraits as my branch of the hobby.... you can get away with spending much less thankfully.

*There's a difference between what most people think is a sharp photo and the sharpness required in a wildlife image.

The trouble with wildlife photography is that it’s a very lonely game. Worse than fishing. No one wants to sit so long with you and I can’t take the dogs as they bark just at the wrong moment.

Good afternoon

Today's offering comes courtesy of park4night. I am pleased about it as well. It continues the previous theme of power but this time wind. Something I have been told I am full of in all senses.
image.jpeg

Side view, the blades were turning and I shot video but not sure how to upload video to view on here.
image.jpeg

This one from further round, blades still turning though that has to be by electric motor as there is not a breath of wind up here. Though operating the mill was actually closed today. Opening hours below, curiously the motor must be a good Union man because the rotation stopped at 1730 precisely.
image.jpeg

Obligatory view to include Hecate and no, that is not my makeshift EHU poking out the roof. Why do you see these things afterward. I don't have photoshop on this iPad so they will simply remain for the time being!

Signs giving hours and local water mill details pinned to locked and chained gate.
The reports on park4night were good, last one by Aussies in January. The only noise is that of cicadas the first I have heard this year - I did hear a cuckoo and an owl this morning quite early!

A windmill operated by an electric motor is technically a large Fan

Not in the same league as @bladerunner photos but managed to get these at the fishing ponds at the Hereford C&CC site, where we have a weekend with the Hymer Owners Group

Please can we all stop apologising for the quality of our photos .... me being a prime culprit. :(

This thread isn't just for amazing photographs .. it's for anything we want to share each day .. even if it is box brownie quality.

My favourite thread from the professional to 'rubbish' ... (no such thing .. they are interesting. )

Rant for the day over... stroppy day.

I LOVE otters .... bet they could have kept you amused for hours?

Staying at one of All the Aires South tonight - Marcenais, I am the only one here great location and these guys (probably gals) are the only company. This is not a high quality photo, no composition and I guess they don't count as wildlife. Photo taken with ipad2

Orange alert for thunderstorms. There have been a few build ups but they have dissipated.

Just flew back to Vienna and tried to get onto the orient express as it was going our way but the ticket wasn't good enough. Picked van up from friends place where we left it and now in Austria at Lake millstatt at camping pesenthein. Acsi

but not sure how to upload video to view on here.
...upload video to YouTube (or similar), then once it's processed & plays on YouTube, click on the "Share" tab and click on "copy link" tab then back to MHF and paste it into the Media tab above...

How do you upload onto You Tube please? And does that mean ANYBODY can see it? :(

Our night stay at la Mothe St Heray aire , not at the aire actually, but just along the road in a park by tourist office , nice location.
