Some more of Mrs D's garden she took last night, Before anyone says anything about the old race fairing was placed where she wanted it & she wants it covered in moss over time(y)

After a hard day hedge cutting we made the most of a lovely warm evening to have dinner in the garden. I had bought some fillet steak yesterday, some new potatoes were par-boiled and then lightly covered in olive oil and seasoned with sea salt and herbs before roasting on the charcoal BBQ. Little Wife made a salad of rocket, chick peas, tomatoes, bell peppers and some herbs from the garden.

I ended up basting the spuds with the beef fat and then, once they were roasted, rolled them around in the steak juices before serving.

Lovely!

A couple of our goldfish are lying comatose (but definitely not dead) in the soft weed in our pond. Clifton says they’re probably spawning ....

This was taken an inch away from the fish - and it didn’t move —any ideas?

Yes .. could be spawning .. her right side looks little large.

There are no white marks on her are there?

If she does spawn have a jar of the pond water at the ready and get as many babies out as possible .... ground fish food up into the tiniest of tiny crumbs and feed in the water regularly.

If you dont separate them mum and the other fish will eat them. BAD BAD MUM. :(

.. they have HUNDREDS of babies you will eventually need a big baby bath or bigger to keep them in .

We had them and we couldn't tell which were goldfish and which koi carp at first .. we fed REGULARLY ..constantly grinding food up ... and still ended up which hundreds of little fish about 3 inches long .. Some of the carp were probably worth lot of money but we just needed to get rid as it was taking all my time and worry about 'my babies.'

@cliffandger

if they are doing the same as ours they are almost certainly waiting for an unsuspecting tadpole to swim out o_O

mind you we have literally millions of tadpoles in ours, it would chaos of they all survived, our blackbirds take a lot as well, they are expert at fishing (y)

@cliffanger

If she IS having babies please keep us updated . :)

@DavidG58 same here David .. don't know where they have come from. I don't like frogs and made sure, so I thought, that I took them all down to the local pond last year .... walking up and down with buckets!!!!!

Beautiful weekend at Ashling Lodge farm site, 3 miles West of Chichester. 2 caravans and a MoHo when we arrived on Friday evening but they cleared off on Sunday morning to leave us on our own..in the sun....with cool beers and cold G&Ts. We decided to stay Sunday night and "commute" to work early on Monday morning. More to follow later today at www.gohumberto.com

Technically photos of yesterday. I drove over to Compiegne to visit the Clairière de l'Armistice.
image.jpeg

I had seen bits on the various tv channels but never really knew much more than the significance. I know a little more now and realise how little I do know.
image.jpeg

The entrance to the museum building the Clairière and the monuments placed in it become more understood after the visit. The adult fee of €5 is in my view money well spent.

This little Renault is front and left of the museum entrance.

The principal exhibit is this Wagons Lits carriage which is displayed and configured as the coach used for the signing of the Armistice. It is the same model as the original so nothing is lost. Reading the history of the location on the various panels and the history behind this carriage, the building that holds it and the grounds in which it stands was a revelation to me. The information panels are in English as well as French (though I only read the French as I struggle to improve my knowledge).

Beyond the carriage there is an exhibition of models, artefacts, uniforms and most interesting to me a number of stereo photo viewers giving 3D views of many aspects of WW1. I spent some time looking at these vivid images which begin to bring home the horrors of that and every war - when will we learn to live together? One or two of the devices need maintenance but that I suspect is a consequence of the school visits (two while I was there).

When I returned to the parking area I found three Fraser Nash BMW cars on an annual rally/run, looking quite superb.

I spent two hours in the museum. The parking and Clairière are free and it is well sign posted from the various roads.

One of my favourite images from the Scottish Sea Kayak Symposium on Skye last week, with @andy63 which sums up the weather, the wilderness, the camaraderie, the laughs and new friends.

We were on our way to Talisker Bay, when our coach grouped us up for the pic :D
