Yorkshire Dales trip

We've got more sense, 28° yesterday & 20° at 8am this morning. SAS training is not everyone's idea of a Holiday.
🤣 Pah, I had my shirt off topless outside this morning, pictures to come after the watershed.
You’ve not lived until the bitter cold wind has whistled up yer trouser leg I’ll tell thee.

Been to the nature reserve this afternoon, watched a buzzard overhead.

Does anybody else pack loads of grub for a trip, in the freezer, tins in cupboards etc and then usually just buy food on the way or eat out etc. Finish up taking it all back.
Absolutely  .
When I bought my PVC, was going to get the longer one just to have a tall fridge... then I realised I just have more to empty when I got home.

We lived for 18 months near Rochdale (Wardle) through the hot summer of 76, it was so nice to get back to the warm South.

Just got back from Leyburn, crackin little place loads of pubs, brewery and a choccy factory.
Stayed at Lower Wensleydale site only £23 which is cheap for a club site..
We have just got back from Lower Wensleydale too, great week away. 👍

Got thoroughly soaked yesterday in Settle, it rained and rained

And rained, all day

Beautiful train station they have there, just like there is at Ribblehead and Horton in Ribblesdale

So original, they even have a wood pellet stove going to heat it so have moved with the times too😉

Yesterday you could go into the signal box and look around and play with the levers, it was an open day, forgot to take a photo. I think I took the wrong career up I was like a kid in a sweet shop😄

Nice chippy in Settle and a nice pub too. It’s nice to get in a train, the conductor comes around and you give him some actual money for the fare, does anyone remember money, those strange bits of paper and coins everyone used to carry around.

Anybody ever heard the saying about drowned rats.

Surely you should be drinking Old Peculier instead of Guinness in the Dales?

Aye, regularly Paul. Last weekend though, because we knew we were eating out, we took one frozen meal (just in case), and the usual bread, butter, cheese, ham, etc.

Surely you should be drinking Old Peculier instead of Guinness in the Dales?
My thoughts too, even if you can only get their latest smooth version, which is still a worthy pint if no cask available. ;)

Smashing photos Paul. :) BTW, I hope Soukie is okay now. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

We are in Ingleton now at the Motorhome community car park.

Nice bigs bays will take a large 8.5+ metre van easily. Our 6.48metre one a doddle. £3.90 for over 4 hour stay 9-6 and then a fiver 6-9am.

Perfect for the centre, toilets there too.
4 dedicated Motorhome bays set out with green paint. Great idea we’ll done to Craven district council.

Just had a walk in the village the Wheatsheaf pub does Theakstons but they’ve no Old Peculiar on at the minute, just get it occasionally.

The other 2 pubs are Thwaites, hand pulled but not my favourite.

Anyway enough of hand pulled beer and alcohol anybody think I was a connoisseur.

I have to say price for a pint is almost a fiver we’ve found. I’m used to Wetherspoons Ruddles hand pump £1.49. I’m not made of money like that JockandRita you know🤣😄.

Good job we’re on holiday.

Anyway enough of beer that’s not what this thread is about.

The cheapest we’ve found was the wagon in Bedale a pint was £3.40. Nice beer garden too at the rear with a huge outside television.

Anyway that enough of pubs and alcohol. It’s not the be all and end all you know.

Right we’re off to the Wheatsheaf Inn.

 Oi, I'm as big a fan of Spoons as you are Paul. In all the years I've been using them, I've only ever had one bad pint, and that was replaced immediately without question. (y)

Anyway, as you say, this thread of yours is not about pubs and alcohol.

BTW, how far are the pubs from the Ingleton car park please? ;)

Thanks for the info re MH Parking at Ingleton. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

😄 Oi pubs are not what this thread is about.

Craven Heifer 2 minutes 7 seconds, 3 Horseshoes 3 minutes 22 seconds Wheatsheaf 4 minutes 12 seconds.

BTW it’s persisting it down again.

Thwaites. Wrong side of thr pennines.

We were in ingleton not so long ago. We tried all the pubs but decided only one was any good. Troubke is I cant remember which one it was.

There was a micro pub on the top street which was ok but a bit quiet.

Theakstons bitter, not bad but not the best I’ve tasted.

Will be trying the Thwaites next in the other 2 pubs.
gpat the micro brewery have run out of cask and won’t have any until Thursday😬 drat as it was only £3.50 a pint.

Tons of space for any of you with a large van. Loads of space behind and in front of our 6.48 metre one.
The trees will block a lot of sun for the solar though.
No rain this afternoon and a decent day forecast tomorrow.

Notice I have got the automatic levellers down.

Do we have to add 5/10 minutes to each of these times as the walk back to the MH was a bit longer because of the zigzagging.😁

We recomend the chippy in Ingleton. Weather provided it’s not far from the park if want to eat out.

What a chuffing nightmare journey that was, just before Hawes there’s roadworks all over and a diversion to get there. Just a single track back road chocka a bleeding block with traffic, landrovers, sheep trucks, motorhomes etc.
Took us ages for the last 5 miles.
Then got to the auction mart it’s like the M25 a sale on you can’t move on the car park for landrovers and 4x4. It took us 30 minutes to get out it was gridlock as a truck was delivering something at the exit.

All through Hawes there’s roadworks there’s a sheep sale on tomorrow too.

We managed to get out and are now at the Station Inn Ribblehead viaduct, beautiful location.
View from the van window.

Its Lamb and Tup sales in Hawes at present. The auction Mart and Hawes are always very busy at this time of year. I noticed your motorhome as you drove out of Hawes (I live there).

Done a nice walk this morning whilst Caz was getting ready
I spoke to a local chap and he was saying don’t be paying nearly a fiver a pint in the pubs, there is a working mens club and an ex servicemen club where locals go.

They are right in the town centre, the ex servicemen club is closed on Monday so I might try the working mens club tonight, I’ve walked by both, there snooker and pool tables in the working mens club it looks nice. John Smiths beer, it says tourists welcome.

It’s a lovely village, very quaint I bet a few folk retire to here.

Wow I looked at the price for the extremely remote house I saw on the Whernside walk, it’s a total derelict shell, a good half hour walk from any parking and they want £250,000 for it.
It will need that spending on it, if they it for that I’ll show my backside in Barnard Castle buttercross.

I have done the waterfalls trail at Ingleton starting from the car park several times but this time we left the motorhome at the village hall. I might have read it wrong but they seem to be saying it’s £8 to walk round the falls trail!! . It seems a bit pricey unless I have miss read things.

If you turn right from where you are parked, down the hill to the road and then right again there is a nice bakery that does, bread, cakes, pies etc.
