Yorkshire Dales trip

On the last photo of the pots there is a cracking restaurant called Tom and Nellies. They don’t take dogs inside unfortunately it looks as all the outside tables have been moved for winter.
Yes it was closed yesterday and the day before, unless it just opens on an evening

It’s p1ssin it down here in Bedale, up late today a couple of guinness and playing hangman, it’s surprising how the words get ruder as the night wears on😄

A steady get ready and then amble onto Hawes and bless we see somewhere else, no plans.

Got a nice pheasant pie left for today. I told her the P stands for Paul not pheasant.🤣

Check out the rope factory in Hawes.

😋😋😋

What a chuffing nightmare journey that was, just before Hawes there’s roadworks all over and a diversion to get there. Just a single track back road chocka a bleeding block with traffic, landrovers, sheep trucks, motorhomes etc.
Took us ages for the last 5 miles.
Then got to the auction mart it’s like the M25 a sale on you can’t move on the car park for landrovers and 4x4. It took us 30 minutes to get out it was gridlock as a truck was delivering something at the exit.

All through Hawes there’s roadworks there’s a sheep sale on tomorrow too.

We managed to get out and are now at the Station Inn Ribblehead viaduct, beautiful location.
View from the van window.

We love the Yorkshire Dales. Just a pity that it is 1,300 miles away, but it could be in on our Grand Europe Tour next year now that we have more time to travel.

We have got black pudding for supper, sizzling as I write. Unfortunately the Polish version is not as solid as it has a lot of cereal in, so falls apart when skin is cut.

Does anyone else use Google maps what a pile of crap, we’ve found on this trip and our April Scotland trip it tries repeatedly to take you down unclassified roads, single track, some not even suitable for a car.

It’s ok getting you around motorways and major routes but small CLs etc it’s absolutely rubbish. It wants to take totally unsuitable routes instead of nearby A or B roads etc to save 2 inches on a journey.

My verdict, rubbish. That’s my moan for today now for a guinness and black sheep in the Station Inn.

We are in Bedale on a little CL short walk into town, I’m annoyed they’ve put the price up a quid, it’s now £6 a night.
The pheasant pies are beautiful from the butchers there. I’m not pheasant plucker BTW.
Not sure where to next, Leyburn, Masham, Hawes, Settle, Grassington, who knows.

I phoned a site up and the cost was £42 a night, I said “ No not a week, 1 night. Anyway enough of that moaning they have to make a living.

A fortnight off work, a few guinness, a nip of Port, Black Sheep, lovely walks, work phone not ringing. What more could you ask for.

Thank heavens we’re alive.

Never used google maps for navigation Paul, but black sheep is a fair old pint. 😋

Spot on Paul, and only good for smaller vehicles.
Whilst I might use Google maps for general route planning, it's my trusty Truck Sat Nav that gets me there on decent roads for the final stages. (y)

Glad to see that you and Caroline are enjoying your time away in the MH. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Well worth walking up towards Gearstones from there to look at the old settlement of Thorns. We were involved in an archeological dig there a few years ago. Also the churchyard down at Chapel le Dale with the graves of the workers who built that viaduct. Drop down the valley to Helwith Bridge aforva stay at the pub. Also great food at Middle Studfold Farm just before Helwith Bridge.

Flipping stupid going on holiday in Yorkshire.
27° here in the Dordogne today.

Only if it’s kept tight Dteve, like any ale, I can vouch for this one though
That post was the correct grammar Steve when I wrote it, honest, it’s not the Black Sheep😄

How utterly disrespectful of the local farming comunity to fill the car parks , they should be ashamed of themselves, especially the auction site 🙄.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes it did sound a bit condescending my post didn’t it. There’s normally only a sheep sale on once a week they’ve got 2 extra ones on this week.

Hey the wind isn’t too bad up here at the foot of Whernside, I can still stand up outside the van, although a couple more of these Black Sheep and I won’t be able to😜

When I was looking for a SatNav type for my phone I ended up with Maps.me a free app and works really well, clear to use/see.
I couldn’t get CoPilot to work for me I’ve tried it before and didn’t get on with it and this last time it wouldn’t let me in!
Love the photos and comments, must go look at Hawes again, long time since we’ve been there!

A friend used to live in the house used as the vets in ACGAS in Askrigg. This produced 3 income streams.
1 Paid to film the front door area as folk went in and out
2 Paid to shut door and stay inside while outdoor filming was on
3 Their dog appeared more than once as a patient

There’s a fresh water tap and a toilet disposal here, plus they give you a key code for the toilet.
Reminds me a bit of the metal bridge inn near Gretna, although this is much smaller and no specific Motorhome parking, you just have to find room.

Agree about Google maps, we used it in France in May this year, when our usual satnav threw a wobbly and it took us on some very unsuitable roads. I learnt to check the alternative routes, which were often more suitable for the motorhome, some of the Google shortcuts can barely be classified as a road.

I am enjoying reading your thread, as I love the Dales and it's bringing back some happy memories of holidays spent up there.

We were in Leyburn for the jazz festival last weekend. I think a longer break might result in a serious weight increase good food and proper portions

It’s chucking it down out there and the wind howling, this is real Yorkshireman country Lenny HB not for the faint hearted southern softie.

Had a nightcap when back from the pub last night.

BTW I’m p1ss wet through just been out with the dog.
