I was reading that many men lost their lives building the Ribblehead viaduct, the conditions were atrocious, so remote, freezing conditions at times. It was very dangerous work.

You can see why, I got a photo from directly underneath.

We are off in the Station Inn shortly for a meal, so I’ve now done Ingleborough and Whernside and only Penyghent to do.

Thinking of doing that tomorrow then that’s all the 3 peaks done. Need to look at the weather though as we could stay at the Helwith Bridge Inn overnight.

Anyway time for a nice meal(hopefully).

Enjoy Paul & Caroline. (y)

We are going to stopover at Hawes 21st/22nd of next month, our way back from Ambleside. Not been before. :)

Cheers,

Jock. :)
Auction mart Jock? if so check if there’s a sale on first. It was total chaos yesterday in there.

Will do Paul thanks. I am hoping to arrive on the Monday morning, and leave on the Wednesday morning, before heading over to Boroughbridge.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

It’s absolutely siling it darn here, I may abandon the plan to hike up pen y gent it’s bouncing off the Motorhome roof.

Hopefully drier later. Breakfast of tahini on toast now.

A few miles south of Helwith Bridge you have Stainforth Force where the salmon have been jumping recently. Park in YDNP car park ( don’t try and drive down to the force - very very narrow bridge and nowhere to turn round!) A little further on on the left opposite stone works at Langcliffe is the Hoffman Kline which is an amazing insight into the industrial processes of the area in the past. Last time I went past they were doing some work on the adjacent site so might be some restrictions on parking. But it is only a short walk from either Stainforth or Langcliffe.

Kiln not kline

This house is for sale the old station masters cottage good grief you can’t even get to it, taking the shopping home by foot you would be knackered.

It's a doer upper. Let it out as a holiday home you'll make a fortune. Or not. But some folk like bleak. Not some southern softies perhaps. Like me. And whatshisname. I was born a northerner, and was taken to these spots as a child, and loved them. But not much recently. Europe is closer now, and I've seen the light. Too much of it says my doctor.

That’s an understatement, doer upper😄

I love the location but getting there, Holiday letters like to drive there. I’m going to enquire how much it is😄

A couple hundred spent on doing it up and bingo.

Couple of hundred thousand!!

If you fancy a bit of TLC after your walking, I can recommend this CL....

It is about 4 yrs since we last stayed, but used it to walk Ingleborough. The TLC bit is that they have a small leisure centre onsite with a lovely pool, sauna, jacuzzi etc.
Just the thing after a long walk.
About 15 min walk into Ingleton.

The site consists of a few parts...
There is a seasonal field of abt 20 caravans, then a Camping Barn, the Leisure Centre and the 5 pitch CL.

Run by a retired Fireman, it used to cost £13 plus £5 for the use of the Leisure Centre, but it looks , like most things, like the price has gone up.

Suki one of the dogs is not well so we were going to get the train to Settle then leave but are having to stay here now.

This pub will be loving us how much brass we’ve spent in there so far.

Does anybody else pack loads of grub for a trip, in the freezer, tins in cupboards etc and then usually just buy food on the way or eat out etc. Finish up taking it all back.

It’s chucking it down out there and the wind howling, this is real Yorkshireman country @Lenny HB not for the faint hearted southern softie.
We've got more sense, 28° yesterday & 20° at 8am this morning. SAS training is not everyone's idea of a Holiday.
