Update on my lights and the wiring. Pulled all the old wiring out from behind the rear corner and glad I did as it told of more woes if I hadn't have taken the time to do it. Lots more examples of poor workmanship and lack of care.

Still it's all sorted now, lights re-wired and fed through a protective sleeve and all neatly tied up as it should be.

Now, until the next electrical problem:)

Just made my sliding door close so that it does not wake the devil, much better than the job that Fiat did in the first place

Took about six attempts and drove the wife mad but better her than all the vans around us.

The other day lost all power to the dash and ignition while fitting a monitor for a reversing camera. Thought I might have pulled a conector loose but today after taking the passenger side speaker out and moving a lot of wires out the way I found the fuse panal it was a 5amp fuse. Reminder never buy an ex govenment veh if you want to work on its electrics, wiring diagams do not exist for the spagetti that they put in :) :) :)

Changed the oil on ours today. Normally, I reuse the sump plug washer if it looks undamaged, by annealing it.
However, there was no washer on the sump plug, it looks like whoever did the last service used some sort of sealant
Anyway, Sunday afternoon in a sleepy village in France isn't the easiest place to buy a new washer so I had to make one out of an opened out and flattened piece of copper pipe.
Result = leak free sump plug and a sump full of new oil.

Wouldn't a wine cork have done Allan? :)

Not so much fix, but work out how to fire up the fridge, boiler and test hot water etc (after just picking the van up) My friend did a check on all appliances and all have blue flames and no gas leaks detected by manometer.

Roll on the better weather when i can check that the fridge does cool my beer

Cleaned the gas fire and air blown heating system. Amazing just how much dust get drawn into that area:)

Fitted a new SHURflo water pump. The old one had been on the vehicle since new and was starting to fail. Easily replaced and much quieter than the old one:)

PP Bear. Man I dig where you are coming from.

I fit taximeters, to every conceivable four door car available to be used as a taxi. I seen a lot of looms!

Mass produced cars, nowadays have well made, sturdy, reliable professionally produced looms, but it seems anything else you pay good money for such as a camper conversion, motor-homes, horseboxes , Taxi's etc, are cobbled together with some shoddy workmanship thrown in, often with little regard to safety.

Most electrical problems I have seen regarding aftermarket or additional looms has been due to lack of cable ties and poor termination, cables wrapping around steering column, lack of fuses, inappropriate cable thickness, lack of loom tape, crimped joints instead of heat shrunk soldered joints, etc. I have seen every bodge a cabbie can do to his car, wiring, bodywork, seats.

When I investigated a wiring problem behind my Auto-sleeper Tridents Zig unit, I found an atrocious birds-nest of same coloured wiring that had shown no signs of being interfered with since installation. A mess, poorly terminated, lack of ties, sloppy workmanship, but hidden well behind trim. The theme continued as I inspected other parts of the conversion, all nasty bits thankfully well hidden by design.

It seems you pay your money and still take your chances huh?

Well, four months and 5000 miles later, our latest 20 year old van is starting to show it's age
The Carver water heater drain plug started to weep a while ago. I tried ptfe tape which worked for a while, but had to change the plug today for a new one. The waste drain hose fell off in my hand yesterday, so new pipe and tap to be fitted tomorrow. Adjusted the thermocouple on the grill so it would stay alight and fitted a new LPG sticker because the old one had faded away.
Now, I just need to figure out why the engine won't turn off occasionally when I remove the key!

Well the offside drive shaft support bearing decided to disintegrate yesterday so that was today's job. Easy to remove as inner race not attached to outer.:D2
Book said the support holder was removable but it isn't (n) as it is also the alternator mounting bracket.
Drained oil from diff , which was in good condition. No bits of any sort floating about.
Once off separated at the tri-axe inner cv joint & heated & removed the inner race collar followed by the remains of inner race. Cleaned up went & bought new bearing 55mm x 30mm x 13mm
( 6006 2RS ) & fitted on shaft along with retaining collar which I shrunk on.checked ,cleaned, reassembled & greased the inner cv & cleaned & greased other ,then refitted it all.
Pity I forgot to pick up the large torque wrench needed to do the nut up to its 360lbs/ft :( That'll get done in the morning , otherwise it is finished & good for the next 185k kms that this one 's done.

rebuilt and fixed my new to me bike cant weight to get it muddy

One of our cars was an ex police vehicle, little was standard, had to take the old bits to make sure we got proper replacements. 1.1 escort my ***e

The grill on our Stoves cooker was coming loose and rattled every time we hit a bump in the road
So, I decided to tighten the two screws that hold it to the hob via hexagonal spacers. Bad move, one broke off and the other wouldn't tighten.
I took it all apart and had to drill out the screws but couldnt remove the remaining bits, even with an Easyout ( I broke it.
Anyway, I ended up welding nuts on the ends of the spacers and got it all back together.
Whilst it was all apart, I tested the grill thermocouple because the grill wouldn't stay lit
It tested fine, so I gave it a good clean using switch cleaner on the screw in contacts and it started working.
I also adjusted the oven igniter that was taking forever to light the burner. Lights first click of the igniter now.

All in all, a good fixit day.

Just need to look at the squeely front brake next

Just the right length and tension bungee strap to hold the hab door open securely - as the plastic grip that's supposed to do the job is useless.
We do that as well. The plastic grips are useless and I nearly lost my teeth before I tethered the door with the bungee.

Fixed the troge so the bog wont stink till you go out side
bill :sicker:
Nope ... you've even got me stumped on that one Bill ... can you put it into 'fun' speak please. :)

Replaced micro switch in kitchen mixer tap, resoldered the wires twice already, so bit the bullet an shelled out £9 for a new one, just wondering how long this one will last.. Its never a good idea to have electrical wires connected to something thats movement will interfere with the wires, its inevitable that they are going to break again, just a very poor design me thinks

When my wash basin tap wires broke after soldering joint several times a break point, I cut the wires as near to the switch I could and then soldered new wires on. I also change the route of the wires in the tap body, moving the clamp ring around so wires are not trapped so much.

SOG?

'bog won't stink until you go outside' is a clue, methinks. :D2
I did wonder if he meant SOG but how the hell he's got troge instead I don't know ... maybe he's been to Ikea and picked up some of the daft names they use? :D
