What have you fixed on your motorhome this week?

Renewed the mastic seal on the roof rear panel. PITA getting the old mastic off.

Just setting off for a trip, removed ignition key to go back into the house, all lights (oil pressure warning, engine preheat, seat belts) etc stayed on! Keys in pocket????. Warnings flashing up on the Fiat panel, Air Con failure, ABS Failure etc. Thoughts of an abandoned trip with the van in at Fiat, then remembered that I also had a brake light lamp failure when the van was moved. Keys back in and ignition on, checked lights, nowt working on rear of van, found bad earth in N/S cluster. Ran in a temporary additional earth direct to chassis which sparked as I connected it to the chassis. Once fitted permanently with a bolt and star washers, all faults cleared, 1 week later am happy to report no recurrence of the fault. Still a bit mystified how a bad earth can keep all of the dash powered up when the key was out of the ignition!! Just one of the brace of faults with the Fiat/Autotrail over the first year of ownership ho hum.

It's a well known earth fault on the Fiat, Peugeot, Citroen models.

John.

Just replaced the brake fluid with a synthetic DOT 4. Been worried that it was at the 5 year point and its recommended to be done around the 5 year point :)

I just use a fluid tester, so far after 3 yrs still no water ingress. Well inside allowance.
My car is 2009 on original fluid and still fine

Changed a radiator hose today it looked like it was going to split.
Ordered it at 0900 and it arrived at the local motor factors near to whare i am camped at 1600 today.

I probably could have boged it with self amalgamation tape and a pach but dident want to risk it
On Holiday blown cylinder head would have spoiled it a tad I thinks m

Thought we were going to have to get a new barrel for the garage door lock......found it hanging on the spare key that we had taken with us!!!! Don't know how we didn't notice it when we locked the door. Or rather...me !

Had to keep lighting the water heater with a lighter every now and again. So, took all the connections off, cleaned them and sprayed with switch cleaner. Working a treat now. 6 gallons of piping hot water in half an hour

Not really a 'fix' but I've just finished converting my Bantam trailer to fixed, hinged, ramps. No more kneeling in the mud to pull them out from under the Smartie - now they're standing up behind the car & simply fold down when needed. Next job - motor mover to install.

I know what you mean, I had a BMW once......
I have never owned a german brand vehicle of any kind but always wondered why people seem to bang on about how good german engineering is and the quality of it was second to none.. After buying the Hobby on a Renault Master all i can say is thank god the chassis isn't german, i would have a right pile of crap stuck on the drive, the Hobby part of the van is slowly getting better but only because i am putting it right at my own expense.. Yes i could get stuff done free under warranty but choose not to as i have seen at first hand the the workmanship of the company who does the warranty work for Hobby and i may as well take it to the local school up the road an let the kids have a go at it, 6 months old and the thing was falling apart, internal trims cut more than an inch too short, trims hanging off, lights not fit correctly, intetnal doors not shutting right, bathroom door not sealed, shower tray not sealed and leaking, mirrored cabinet doors hung crooked.. How much more i could list..? If only i had time.. I could be doing repairs instead of writing this:LOL::LOL::LOL:

New rear disks, pads and a general clean up. A wire brush and blast of heat resistant spay paint finishes the job!

Had the bathroom treated with Speedcoat as the 12 year old plastic was degrading and disintegrating in the sink. As we have no intention of swapping the van, we decided that we would also have the shower tray 'Speedcoated' to prevent future issues. I have to say, the result is rather pleasing and cheaper than a new sink!

A string in a Remis window blind snapped. I had to completely remove the blind from the wall to access the string ends. That meant the light/extractor fan unit over the sink/hob had to come off too. That meant unplugging the mains hookup and pulling out the 12 volt fuse. Oh, and removing the spice jar rack pop-rivetted to the blind, after removing all the spice jars of course.

The actual fix was to release the end of the string, pull a couple of inches of slack through, rethread the string into its channel, and tie a knot. Repair cost was zero. Or would have been if I hadn't decided to replace the slightly rusted screws with stainless ones.

I didn't think that this thread would still be popping its head up still

It'll still be popping up in 3016...

Yep, just fixed the auto-drill unit on the geothermal heat extractor...

damned Chinese nuclear barbeque leaking again...

antigrav levellers turned on but not the magnetic retainers, so the van slid into the lake...

I've just constructed the Mark II Prototype GW Screen Shade to fit my recently acquired Nuvi.

The shades on Ebay for a couple of quid are quite good but I like to add an extension to mine which gives improved screen shading.
It may look Heath Robinson but it does the job very well.

Just set off to the saltfleet rally and beep beep beep.
Handbrake warning light came on . Wouldn't stop beeping . Ralph checked breaks and hand breaks etc .
Checked handbook for exclamation mark on dash and constant beeping. It said go to Peugeot garage if brake fluid levels were ok and still beeping . As its local , we did.
They couldn't do anything till 1/2 4 . He suggested driving it to see if would free it up. So we drove to our local garage , dickies who does the cars , pickup and MH mot . Upshot ?
A modification to stop Buster wandering into the front (Namely a bungy strap hooked round each front seat holding a veltrim covered board) had hooked onto the hand break warning cable !
Oh well !
Glad he noticed what it was. So we bunged him a tenner for a drink .
We're on our way !

A bit of a cheat as I didn't really fix it but..Our water heater packed up last trip. With the guidance of a really helpful Whale technician I diagnosed the circuit board fault over the phone.
I called vehicles4leisure who I bought the van from. They organised the part and an appointment today to replace it. We took the dogs on the beach while they fixed it and tested it. Great service and a great day out on the beach in Rhyl too.

I had a locker hinge jam this morning (why does this happen occasionally??)

Contacted Darren at Brownhills, the replacement and spare for the toolbox are now on the way... Always good service from them :)

For the moment, I've removed the jammed hinge and closed the locker. Seems secure enough.
Hope it lasts the 900mile journey home !

We had a major crisis while on holiday warm beer.
The fridge stopped working so I stopped to fix it on the hard shoulder off the M1 semed like a good place level tramackand a nice Sunny day.
And it was a grate place to dump my gray and black water.
Any way back to the fridge I removed the burner and jet.
The burner was full of carbon and rust dident have any thing to clear the jet so had a bit of a brand wave high presuer air but from ware
Then the Penny dropped air gun so I put the air gun muzel to the jet bang a few times spotless.
Done the same with the burner spotless
Put it all back together Works just fine
Gave it a spray with leek detector all good
Just kidding abut the hard shoulder of the M1

We've just bought a replacement window for the one that got damaged when the dogs locked me out of the van 8 years ago and we had to break and enter!

Let's hope it's easier to fit than it was to fetch - got stuck on the M42 for 2 hours today :-(

Withe spending a my time on the oily bits
We have a list now of jobs to do mostly small jobs but lots of them
