What’s up North worth seeing?

? I have them, where can I get Ducato maxi lock nuts?

I agree. Get your nuts locked. Safer for everybody. Saves progeny problems later.

This has made me smile, glad to see everyone has entered in to the spirit of it.

Earlier this year I moved my daughter and her boyfriend up to Manchester from London. She had been to Uni in Lancaster, he was an Essex Lad and hadn't been any further north than where the M25 crosses the M1 in his life having been to a London Uni.

As we got a bit nearer to Manchester he asked my daughter totally sincerely - Will we get a mobile signal up here and do they have Deliveroo & Uber in Manchester.

I blame the parents.

We are travelling up North to collect our new motorhome, will be visiting exciting places such as Grantham, Sherwood Forest (got ideas from a forum member for there ?), Chesterfield, Doncaster

Some basic questions:
Is it cold in these places, do we need thermal clothing, coats etc
Are people easy to understand or do you need to listen carefully and speak slowly
Are people friendly up there
Do they accept debit cards or do we need to take cash
Is it safer than London
Are the roads narrow
What are their driving standards like
What type of food do they eat, I take all my own to France, wondered if I should take my own this time, I heard they fry everything even mars bars ?
Can you drink the water
Any recommendations for things to see and do, only having a day in each place to test the van out before driving back to London, if there are any issues it will be going back to the dealer on the way back to London

Thanks ?

Are you having a dig

I'll answer in my order

1/ it's safer than London
2/The roads are the same just not as busy except when schools turn out
3/Derbyshire water is the purest around - why do you think Buxton water sells so well
4/ Fried Mars Bars are Scottish
5/ We have some really good Chefs around pick you cuisine and search the pub grub is the same wherever you go - - - Try Derbyshire Oatcakes, Derby Sage Cheese
As for things to see there are far too many to list what do you like culture, nature, trains, canals, flying PM me if you wish and can narrow the list down

Whats there up north worth seeing?
Interesting question as so much there.
I think the best thing is finding the road back south.
Back to warmth and civilisation :giggler::giggler::giggler:

This is one of the better answers.....
Head South, we don't want the Southern softies clogging up our road network looking for a homely feeling traffic delays..

Strange thing int it, northerners have been south and know where it's best and come back, southerners don't know any better and stay where they are.

I guess getting my towbar from Swift In hull or wherever to Nottingham is taking some time due to the donkeys having problems on the dirt tracks, if only Amazon sold Motorhomes all would be fine ?

They could deliver by Drone?. Or more likely in a broken package, in an old van driven by a Romanian!.

Oh dear, you do know little of 'north'
Swift are at Cottingham, a village NEAR Hull...... A stones throw from the M62 and A1.
Just wait until you need parts under warranty.... Building vans takes priority over warranty parts supply by a long chalk.

One of the things I must warn you about is that the people up North generally have an aversion to smug patronising sarcastic Southerners. So it may be best to steer clear and head back to the safety of the South.

BTW from my extensive research my answers to your questions are as follows in red.

Is it cold in these places, no do we need thermal clothing, coats etc you do, the locals don't
Are people easy to understand or do you need to listen carefully and speak slowly They love it when you shout loud at them when they don't understand what you say. Try it in some pubs
Are people friendly up there yes, but see the first part of my post for exceptions
Do they accept debit cards or do we need to take cash most don't use either, they have contactless credit cards and smartphones to pay because they live in the 21st century
Is it safer than London usually, but again but see the first part of my post for exceptions
Are the roads narrow They have things called motorways on which traffic often runs freely, unlike the similarly named roads in the the south
What are their driving standards like Much better than Londoners. They even smile and let people out of junctions
What type of food do they eat, I take all my own to France, wondered if I should take my own this time, I heard they fry everything even mars bars ?Put it this way, most people are not daft enough to take all their own food to France.
Can you drink the water yes, but not their beer

brilliant answer to a poor attempt at “humour” lived all over and London is the biggest shit hole there is ??

I did say “or wherever” as I have no idea what’s up north ?

It's good to see that this thread has been taken in the spirit intended. It disproves the southern saying that all northerners are born with chips on their shoulders. Or dandruff.

Or in fact proves that anyone who lives south of Watford gap, for some reason thinks they are in a better place ?. Or indeed are better off in some way than anyone who happens to chose to live in a different part of the Country. The mind boggles at the stupidity of some.

I watch Parliament TV and they never mention the north, it’s like it doesn’t exist that’s why we don’t know about it.

That chippy at the bottom of Robin Hoods bay still cooks them in beef dripping, (or they did) but alas, served up in clean paper ?

Chippy somewhere in Scarborough, too many to remember which, wraps 'em in regulation paper printed to resemble newspaper.... Same news items on every page though.

None taken.

On the chippy theme, we've got a really nice chippy in nearby Shepton Mallet. Nearly as good as those I remember in Whitby. Except the last time we were there, chippy near the Harbour. They could have been from any seafront rip off place in the country. How disappointing. Carried these culinary memories for years.

I know the one. It's so much harder to climb back up after eating some of those. That'd explain it.

Wouldn't surprise me if Londoners know more about people from all countries of the world than they do about their own countrymen " up north"

Going back to a serious note, its very likely 596 will have plenty of visits to the midlands in the coming months as he travels backwards and forwards to get numerous warranty repairs undertaken.

Steady on ,that’s a bit close to the truth that one ???
