Part of Peter Bone's argument for the change is 'to bring us into line with the USA' The flaw in the argument is that many of the imperial weights and measures are different to US ones. A gallon being a prime example. And pint being another. When people see how much they are paying for a gallon of fuel they will need kerbside counselling
If its a minor almost cosmetic point why all the publicity by the politicians?. I think it is one of those distractions possibly because there's actually nothing positive at the moment to report. Many, many people, in their haste to do a bit of B Bashing - no doubt aided by an hysterical media - completely and deliberately miss that point. It is a very minor, almost cosmetic change. Nothing else
Don't make sensible points in a discussion about returning to the good old days you'll annoy peoplePart of Peter Bone's argument for the change is 'to bring us into line with the USA' The flaw in the argument is that many of the imperial weights and measures are different to US ones. Ironically, the USA standards are defined in metric units!!!! https://usma.org/laws-and-bills/mendenhall-order
No idea, but it is a very minor thing. That was the point. Up to anybody else to make something of it which I have not seen myself. Don’t bother giving examples; I am not interested which is why I have not seen it. I am looking at the bigger picture and avoiding the hysteria on both sides. As I said, it is a very minor thing and I am putting this thread on ignoreIf its a minor almost cosmetic point why all the publicity by the politicians?. absolutely correct! I meant £10!Welcome to the UK
Where can you buy a gallon of fuel for £5? 1999? In 2022 it is over £8 a gallon.
Even if it was to bring our units more into line with the US(although as someone has already pointed out their gallons are different to ours,) what would be the advantage in that? How much trade do we have in US measurements compared to metric ones?. If we're supposed to be an outward facing country trading around the world why not look for the most widely used trading units and standardise those. It's just populist rubbish from Boris to try and distract from you-know-what. In reality, most pre-packed goods are sold across borders and will continue to be in units that can be used in all countries.
It says a lot about the current state of things that with far, far more important things to deal with the government announces this rubbish.
I only used metric units in school too. And I'm retired. No good talking to my Grandkids about Imperial…….they only use metric in school.
Next folk will be coming be complaining that kids aren't being taught to speak in Norse or Saxon....No good talking to my Grandkids about Imperial…….they only use metric in school.
Can you get me 3 metres of cotton fabric 54” wide whilst you’re thereI'm going for some timber .....I need 2.4mtrs of 2" x 2"
Oddly, 2" by 2" is sized as 47mm by 47mm
Not really a surprise - we started going metric over 50 years ago! I am 50 and I was only taught metric in school. Yes, I'm happy working with either but that's only because Imperial was still all around me and quoted by the adults whilst I was growing up.No good talking to my Grandkids about Imperial…….they only use metric in school.
All the politicians will be trying to get as close as possible to the jubilee nostalgia in the hope that a bit of the shine rubs off on them. It's all a bit like flag waving at last night at the proms !Why review it now I'm sure queenie doesn't know what either are so aint bovered
You rebel you know you need to give your kids latin based names to be modern!Next folk will be coming be complaining that kids aren't being taught to speak in Norse or Saxon....
Some might say that it is smoke and mirrors and a distraction. Others might claim that folk raising their 568 ml glasses to Queenie are, in fact, celebrating the return of the imperial symbol on their pint glasses while others might be gloating in the idea that we're heading back into the golden era of the British Empire and all of the flag waving jollies of yesteryear. Why review it now I'm sure queenie doesn't know what either are so aint bovered
I did. My kids are called I and IIYou rebel you know you need to give your kids latin based names to be modern!
Yep, it's being reported as Jacob Rees Mogg. I'm surprised he's got time to do this with all the brexit opportunities he's been finding.Who's the minister in charge of this, not JRM by any chance ?

Calculator? Slide rule if you must but even they are a symptom of failing schools. If you can't do sums in your head, you're clearly useless at maths. Fortunately JRM's next plan is to close most secondary schools and many primary schools to help inxrease the labour supplied for mills, mines and chimneys. No need to waste money on educating oiks who can't be bothered to learn how to calculate cosine in their heads or congregate the past participle in the third person in ancient Greek. How would you work in imperial with an
ordinary calculator?
Easier to cheat in Imperial.I'm going for some timber .....I need 2.4mtrs of 2" x 2"
Oddly, 2" by 2" is sized as 47mm by 47mm
Sorry, I was just reminiscing about the good old days... Isn't that what this announcement is all about?Er? I was just a thick chippy with a folding boxwood rule so how would I know?
Most calculstors have the ability to work in fractions .How would you work in imperial with an
ordinary calculator?
