Welcome back pounds & ounces

What the heck is all this metric vs imperial rubbish?

Surely the only two appropriate \ meaningful \ globally standardised \ fully understood \ etc \ etc \ etc measurement systems are
it's big enough or wee enough!(y)

If they want to change anything this would be a good start,😉 it might make feel better. 😁

Because we are sat in the UK freezing, only last week we had 38°c in Spain. 🙄 Bob.
An easier way is

16' c
=
61'f

Thats how i compare the 2.

It's 50 years since we went decimal
All the oldies you mention would have been youngies when it happened
(is their such a word as youngies)
Anyway now the are real oldies and my guess is would be even more confused with change now

However!
You may have a point
Let's get back to firkins
And groats

In the late ‘90s, nasa lost a 125 million dollar Martian space craft due to imperial unit data being sent back to earth being interpreted as if it were metric…I believe the craft actually got to Mars but hit the atmosphere at the completely wrong altitude and ‘poof’…no more! Lost in translation….

I weigh myself in stones, but weigh the dog in kilos ;)

I don't usually care what folk, but do hate it when "trendy tossers " use Kms in England. Seen a few police folk do that in news reports. Stupid.

Catching a 2lbs roach was always a noteworthy catch. A roach of 0.9071847kg doesn't quite excite me so much

I love this film with Eamonn Andrews introducing decimalisation in 1970 - I had cause to research old cash registers and can tell you that I used an old Sweda machine (decimalised) as shown in the film, a few times in the late 80s in a cigarette kiosk connected to a supermarket I worked in (had to be helped - I couldn't work it out).

I remember having ten pence pieces which were actually old shillings. My mum told me they used to be worth much more than they were in the 70s/80s - I didn't care - I still got my Krazy Komic and a couple of penny chews with one of them.

I'm happy now that being here, things cost much less - the kids buy pick and mix sweets for between 2 or 5 cent each and they can get a (small) packet of crisp like puffy stuff for between 35-60cents.

This is much more than my packet of KP for 7p, but it's not bad for a 50 year difference!!!

I may weigh myself in Stones but when calculating load for the MoHo it quickly changes to Kgs ;)

Is it only petrol stations that charge tenths of a penny? Bit strange as they don’t exist, our local garage only ever seems to charge XXX.9p! Really just round it up, let’s face it they aren’t going to round it down.

Does all this mean I will soon be able to buy my metric/imperial 225/75R16 tyres as imperial/metric 9/75R405 tyres at long last 😂

The threads on water taps are 1/2", 3/4" and 1" British Standard Pipe thread, even in continental Europe.
As with everything there always some differences, “In Europe Metric (DIN) pipe threads are common on German machines. These generally have a 1.5mm thread pitch, although this can vary. Smaller sizes can be 1.0mm thread pitch, and larger sizes can be 2.0mm thread pitch. Other variations occur. French equipment often have GAZ fine threads with a 24 degree cone.

In North America NPT, JIC and ORFS pipe threads are common. Some NPT threads are similar to BSPT threads so if in doubt check origin of part.

In Japan JIS tapered and parallel threads are common and are interchangable with the respective BSPT and BSPP threads, although the 30 degree cones might be inverted.”
