When people see how much they are paying for a gallon of fuel they will need kerbside counselling

Since the year 2000, traders in the UK have been legally obliged to use the metric system for the sale by weight or measure of fresh produce. However, it has still been legal to price goods in pounds and ounces as long as the price in grams and kilograms is displayed alongside.
It is not expected that metric units will be altogether scrapped but that traders will be allowed to choose which system to use following a Government study proposal led by Brexit Opportunities Minister Jacob Rees-Mogg.
Erm, shops can already sell in imperial. BUT it has to have metric more prominently.A lot of very selfish people commenting here.
Just because they get on with metrics doesn't mean everyone does.
I have several elderly neighbours who are completely baffled by metres, kilograms, litres etc, and would welcome the option of goods being sold in imperial measurements.
Populist politics.I really don't understand why people are making a big thing out of this...
I don't think so. Most of us have admitted to using both metric and imperial, young and old. Like I have said in my previous post, I use both. I remember as a 9 year old girl deciding I wanted to learn the 24hr clock as I knew I would need to use it in the future.A lot of very selfish people commenting here.

I love that expression.Populist politics.
That is hilarious
I don't mean it as an insult.I don't see that as the insult that some people think it does. It is politicians basically doing what a big chunk of the public want. What is bad about that?
I race over a 1/4 of a mile or a 1000 feet depending on class and that is the FIA standard worldwide
I built a chassis to metric sizes but to a tolerance of thou
Same here. I can't wait for them to scrap the over-simplistic metric units. Let's scrap the kilowatt-hour, and bring back proper British Thermal Units (BTU) that we all understand so well. I find it so much easier to understand a battery capacity of 4100 BTU rather than 100Ah. Although I'm sure some would be happier with 3.19 million foot-pounds, 1.63 Horsepower-hours, or even easier, about 1 million calories.I happily mix metric and imperial sometime in the same bit of wood for example
Depends upon your mphWhile that's true, haven't you noticed how quickly those kilometers go down so much quicker than miles when you're going somewhere.
Whatever! He is many things but a god is not one of them.
I knew my star sign stood for somethingThis has got to be a joke right? Can't believe anyone is nostalgic for something so utterly without benefit and which would incur a ridiculous amount of cost to business. And if the only reason is a sense of Britishness then bear in mind lb (the shorthand for pound) originates from the Roman unit of weight - libra.
Yea I like GuinnessAnd Guineas
That is one thing I loved in Europe. How fast the distance seemed to fall
Yea I like Guinness
Complete waste of time and potentially alot of cost to businesses.
Utter bollo x.
I think the term is used to describe politicians who dupe people into voting for them because they're not part of the establishment rather than look at what their policies actually are. Bit like Trump last week saying the shooting showed they need more guns.......really?I love that expression.
Popular? Liked by a large number of people.

I think they meant to write COD but finger slipped? He is many things but a god is not one of them.
The option has always been there it just had to be in metric as well. Maybe they also wanted the price in shillings and pence or maybe groats and farthingsA lot of very selfish people commenting here.

They have dual language signs in Wales and other places, should we not have dual costings on other products and then the motorist will realise that a penny on a litre is nearly 5 pence a gallon and a gallons true price is nearly £5A lot of very selfish people commenting here.

To legally require dual costings would have a pretty big cost for retailers just what's needed with high inflation put the prices up even more. When all petrol stations clearly indicate the price in one standard unit what's it going to cost to change all displays/ roadside signs to price per gallon as well again increasing the price. By the way I think the maths is a bit out on the nearly £5 a gallon! They have dual language signs in Wales and other places, should we not have dual costings on other products and then the motorist will realise that a penny on a litre is nearly 5 pence a gallon and a gallons true price is nearly £5
Where can you buy a gallon of fuel for £5? 1999? In 2022 it is over £8 a gallon. They have dual language signs in Wales and other places, should we not have dual costings on other products and then the motorist will realise that a penny on a litre is nearly 5 pence a gallon and a gallons true price is nearly £5
What cost to business? As I understand it he is not telling us to revert to imperial. He is simply removing the law that forced us to go metric. Shops have a choice which to use or can use both.
So basically nothing changes, except if a shop decides not to display metric measurements anymore they won't go to prison for it. That is IT. Nothing more.
Many, many people, in their haste to do a bit of B Bashing - no doubt aided by an hysterical media - completely and deliberately miss that point. It is a very minor, almost cosmetic change. Nothing elseErm, shops can already sell in imperial. BUT it has to have metric more prominently.
