Up plating

Even with that i am still able to keep back axle at 2200 kg loads of payload😊😊👍

Mine was at 2200 but the junk keeps growing, snow chains got added a couple of years ago and the latest addition is a Paddleboard.
Wonder why mine is at 2550🤔🤔 hardly owt in garage hence the uprate. There’s got to be some gold bullion in there somewhere🤔

Where is your water tank if behind the rear axle that can make a big difference ours is amidships.
Some of the contents of our garage:
2 x e-bikes
Spare wheel & jack
2x chairs & table
Day tent
Awning mat
Tools & Torque wrench
Bike spares
Pegs & lump hammer
shovel & snow shovel
Ramps & bread crates
Spare cassette
Washing machine
Small gas stove & small BBQ
Snow chains
Mains lead
Probably 10kg+ of junk.

I thought you were gonna sell that before you did yourself a mischief due to falling off it all the time?

Ah the water tanks (170ltrs😉) is above the rear axle, in the garage there’s a spare wheel, microwave, crate of beer, alloy fold up bike, 2x isabellas, table and silver screens, I don’t have ramps😁.
All my tools snow chains impact socket gun and other stuff is in the locker behind the front axle🤷‍♂️👍

Stupid place to put a water tank, good job you didn't have the optional 2nd tank.,If you got rid of the beer that would also reduce the weight in the drivers seat.
We don't really need the ramps used them about twice since we had the air suspension but they are only small ones. Never used to worry about being level but since having the air got used to being dead level.

It has got 2x fresh tanks 1x100l and 1x70l I’m not sure if it has the second waste tank🤷‍♂️
I do have E&P levellers (mounted mid ships) but have levelled on an overnighter by letting the rear air down☺️☺️

I'm not sure I'd want to go paddleboarding anywhere I need snow chains to get to 🥶
🤣
Got to get over the mountains to get to the Spanish or Portuguese coast.:giggle:

170 is standard and they split it up to spread the load the option takes it up to 230Lt.

Swift sundance 2003 600B. Max weight 3400 kg.

Now filled to top and a 20 ltr jerry can of fuel .
water tank 100 ltr and water heater full 110 ltrs.
all the awning stuff two jacks tables chairs ect ect.
two adults in the cab.

and had a bit of a weight shock…."o_Oo_Oo_O

and this is now the question.
up plate to 3500 kg. As there are just two small dogs a few clothes and some more shopping supplies .
this makes it more saleable at a later date.

or up plate more.

Up plate more, easy to down plate later if selling 👍

That weight is not bad considering you full of water

I would go higher you can never have too much payload, you may want to carry bikes in the future our 2 e-bikes weigh 50kg, then there is the extra gear for riding & spares.
Do you carry a spare wheel if not another 25 - 30kg.

Spare wheel was included and a toolbox full of tools and two axel stands. The heaviest single item apart from water and fuel is an awning. And two full gas bottles.
note I never mentioned a single word about eeerr in doors. :giggle:

Check your vehicle recovery coverage as some won't do it above 3500kg.

I did they went to 3500 kg after that I have to find someone else.
could be another reason to stay or get to 3500 kgs.

least we can be mindful on what to shed weight wise if we need more goods ect.
little or no tank water saves approx. 88 kgs

So it pays to weigh before you jump in with both feet.

so now been told that any full licence driver can drive up to 3500 kg.

At 3501 kg plus they will need a c1 licence. And mentioned was the fact that as more driving licences are issued every day they do not include the c1 addition. So the licence holder that requires a c1 will either take the course or walk away from a sale.

been told most walk away. Due to the cost ….. driving school for all types of licence test told me to my face.

as for down plating to make the sale No I can’t do that. It seems a little underhanded Just for a Sale.
after All I am not a motorhome sales person.

Good result. Only 40kg left on your rear axle though, would be well worth upplating

Rear axel now has air bag suspension hence that will be updated to 2000 kg.

so I am going to up plate to 3500 kg I can keep it below that by compensation with
less water give the tool box a sort out as it’s a weight on its own and have a look at what else weight we can save .
if it needs an up plate later then so be it.

Are there any downsides of updating higher than 3500kg on insurance, road tax, recovery etc. I know one of the downsides is that you can’t travel through some smaller towns/ villages.

If you've now maxed out at 2000kg on the rear there's no point going for more than 3500kg total as it would all need to be at the front anyway

I was told cheaper road tax. more expensive Moho insurance And. more expensive recovery
the higher expense together outweighs any road tax savings.

I was quoted by Sv Tech that with air bags fitted I could go to 3700 kg without any other additions .

The axle weights of the vehicle post conversion will be:-
3500 – wt kg ; Axle 1 = 1750 kg ; Axle 2 = 1900 kg
3700 – wt kg ; Axle 1 = 1750 kg ; Axle 2 = 2000 kg ALKO or with added rear air assist.

but decided to stay at 3500 kg

so there’s still a bit to play with at the rear axel.

i would go for the most you can get its easy to down plate again when you want to sell you just send a weighbridge ticket to prove its below 3500 changing recovery would be offset by the saving on road tax

AFAIK it’s less cost for the RFL as a Private Heavy Goods vehicle £165 v £280.
Some breakdown and recovery policies may vary but using something like the Nationwide Flex account would include both in the scheme for no additional cost (up to 7.5 tonnes GVW).

Where do the restrictions on travel through smaller towns/villages come into play for a modest upgrade to sub 4tonne?

There is another reason I was trying to keep it under 3500 kg that so family can use it when they want to

again it’s just the two of them but neither have the c1 licence addition.
family can use it as and when they want to As they did when I had a caravan. Friends also used the caravan and may also want a short holiday. So long as all the paperwork is legal they can also use it. Insurance and breakdown ect.

think loaning out your Moho to family was covered a while ago in another thread.

as for tax we pay £140 per year. Disability tax.

Just about every French town or village is 3500kgs through them. (y)

If you are paying to up plate I would assume cost is same for 3500 or 3700?
Never had any problem with recovery, they just ticked a different box for over 3500, not charged any more.
Cant comment on insurance as mine was 3850 when I got it, i went to 4000 but i see the same as mine on 3500 😱

Yes the cost is the same.
but the recovery is very specific 3500 kg and under. Who knows if they do weight it to make some extra cash.

as for insurance fully comp I think it was £180. up to and not exceeding 3500 kg.
