The resurrection of Doc, bringing a 20 year old neismann Bischoff Flair back to life after 12 years off road.

Well I managed to spend £100 again today on god knows what .. ... I'm gonna be on beans I tell ya ....beans . Nae toast

Anyway as it was only a one man job really to put brackets on the huge solar panel . I got on sanding my headlamp surrounds. Had to redo the one I had perfect yesterday as I tried to spray it white and the paint spurted out and made a right bleeding mess. So I was on them for ages today .. I've got one finished but the other I got a few runs in it so will have to rub them out tomorrow and blow it in again, don't need to be perfect at present as they'll get painted in Morocco again I think as the front nose isn't going to polish up that great so I'll have the whole grp front and the drivers door painted the same white that the aluminium sides are.

I spent the rest of the day polishing up some of the van ... that's going to be a long job but it is coming up really nice like I expected .

We hope to get the solar panel up on the roof tomorrow to fit in place and mark it all for prepping etc . Got to find a way of getting garry on the roof too as it's too heavy and big for one person to maneuver it about . Could have done with a third pair of hands but hey ho .

Still undecided whether to put a few screws in to the roof too aswell as the adhesive.... but we have huge brackets on it .

Will be Ok if you use a decent adhesive , Stika 291i or even better 292i. Screws don't do much in thin alloy.

One thing I found useful when fitting mine single handed, albeit only 200w, was to have a couple of 4x3 wood battens to lay it on on the roof. Then you can sikaflex it, remove one batten at a time and just focus on getting one end in place. Doesn't help with getting Garry on the roof 😁

You’re the feckin eejit, someone else has shown what the flag of Cornwall looks like. 😄
Dinnae want Cornwall flag. It was Irish Scottish and English

Garry is English, I'm Scottish, Paul is Irish

We might be in Cornwall but none of us are cornish

Aye we plan to put ladder inside and he can go up through the big skylight 😁

Good shout on the battens though. Our biggest problem is not having much room around the panel once it's in situ but I'll likely be stood on scaffold and ladder and Gary will be up on the roof .

I put a 300w panel on single handed, right at the front so only access front one side on the roof. I made a wooden frame the same size as the panel, then stuck the mountings to the roof + a few mm for adhesive because I could be inside the frame. Waited a day or two then put the adhesive on the mounts and dropped the panel in.

We're using puraflex 40 adhesive. Something garry used on his panels we got from tool station .
With a panel that size I would use something a lot better. Even on my small panels I use 291i it's not worth the risk skimping on the adhesive.

Your not Scottish Lenny, 😇, when a panel like that goes flying people might get hurt, but surface preparation is everything really🤷🏻‍♂️

You probably already know but a few tile spacers under the brackets will stop the adhesive compressing too much with a heavy panel, they recommended at least a 3mm thick bed between mating surfaces when I done mine to keep the integrity of the adhesive.

Yes we know that. Tile spacers were one of the items from b&q this morning.

There's little chance of it going flying.

There's 2 x 1500mm brackets and 2 times 1100mm brackets going to be holding it on ... that's quite a bit of surface to adhere too

Wherever it's warm, our plan only goes as far as Newhaven, the boss was muttering about the South West corner of Spain might make it, depends how many nice places we find on the way.

We might see you down that way,we are on the tunnel Friday night and heading for the sun (y)
