The resurrection of Doc, bringing a 20 year old neismann Bischoff Flair back to life after 12 years off road.

Just back from launderette to uncle lennys ....I dunno I still get a bit vibration through steering wheel , steering wheel still makes a rubbing sound against the plastic cowling below it. Doesn't pull as much , wheel is better aligned but it still bumps and rattles and clunk's over every bump in the road , on a motorway its not a bad driving van but round town it just feels a bleeding chore at the minute .

Hopefully once back on the road over the water I'll feel better but honestly that drive just felt unpleasant.

Parked up on drive again on a different spot and just messaged distance from arch to wheel centre again and there's only 5mm of a difference now.

I really need someone else to have a drive of this to see if it's just me .

Knowing absolutely nothing about these things, just what do they do that these professional guys couldn't.
Why couldn't they have come up with these?
The professional guys do these too , celtic tuning sells chips you plug in to.the obd port .

But different set up .

I've not used a tuning box before . But I've had countless remaps

Actually Charlie be honest you LOVE to say I told you so .....its your favourite thing to do ya miserable sod 🤣

Telt ye before remaps are normal practice now.

They don't harm the vehicle its actually designed to have that power in the first place but many are deliberately tuned down by the manufacturer because you pay more for the higher performance models.

Vw was a prime example

The t4 tdi was available in 88bhp ,102bhp, 130bhp and 150bhp

Same engine same parts , only the 88bhp had different turbo and smaller intercooler but easy to change . All could be remapped to 150bhp. Every one I owned was tuned to 150bhp and the difference was night and day.

If everyone who bought a vehicle just left it as it was there would be no improvements to anything .

I don't want the van to be a racecar I just want it to cope with its own weight going up hills

Wheeler dealers (y)

Any chance your left front caliper is binding?

Just get on your winter trip, change gear a few more times than you might otherwise and then reevaluate your position when you get back next year ;)
I totally agree Tam Northernraider.
Our 3.0ltr is normally 166bhp, but Martin's Quantum upgrade takes it to.....whatever. :whatthe: ............ ;)

Not really been on any good roads though so it's hard to tell.
So really not best placed to make a judgement ...................at this time yet, eh?
Just get yourself out on the road and see what's what, before you come back to Blighty. 👍

Cheers,

Jock. :)

If that's the case it sounds like the suspension is a bit iffy too. I wouldn't think wheel alignment etc would have affected that.

I know you keep checking the LHS but have you had a shuftie at the right to see if there's something wrong there making it stay higher than it should be so putting the MH out of kilter?

I've ordered one of the £60 boxes ... I can then give it a try and see if it makes any difference, if not I'll just remove it again .

When uncle lenny is back I'm gonna take him out a drive in this and let him have a shot somewhere to see if he feels the same stuff I do because I know once you're fixated on something it's often really hard to shake it . You then start focusing on every noise and bump etc .

Did you get any new shocks to carry with you? Something doesn't sound right for a "posh" brand. Seems like this will be a process of elimination, that would be my next step, even if you don't get a chance to fit them before you head off.

If he doesn't notice it then maybe, just maybe, it's a 'weight' thing ... after all he's only a slim jim and you're ... er .... :imoutahere:

I didn't as the seller couldn't confirm it was the right ones but I think I will buy a set as I do think it should be a bit smoother on the bumps

Actually ... just thought about that ... it may not make any difference with all the grub Lenny's been scoffing in Euroland! I bet he's a right porker now.

This is the vid that put me off them back when I was condidering one.

With The length of time it lay idle it’s inevitable there will be things needing changed
We all inc You knew that ,it’s most likely going to be small things
Your steering Could just be a stiff joint on the steering system , inc ball joints etc
Just Don’t stress & just deal with one thing at a time
After a bit if use , it’ll free up

The end result will be a lovely new home

With the van sorted
I’d like to think you’ll be a happy man BUT that might be a tall order 😉

I was annoyed by him after 2 minutes when he made a big deal about having to fit it in the rain.

Not impartial unfortunately. And sounds too patronising. There's loads of folk fitted them who only have good things to say about them .
I'd have preferred a remap but it's not happening so I'm going to give a box a try . I don't drive it like a sports car I just want a bit more torque on hills

I don’t take notice of people with a conflict of interest
It’s just sales propaganda ,there’s thousands of people out there
Trying to tell you why you should buy their products & not buy the oppositions

That’s why I like our Concorde, drives like a sports car if you want, so much power and goes up steep hills in 5th gear.

It was chipped by the owner in Germany, not sure which system but I’ve never had a Motorhome like it, Iveco 3 litre 2005 166bhp not sure what it is now though, but it only 6.48 metres so that will make a big difference.

Yes the size to bhp ratio will obviously make a big difference.

My frankia had the 3.0l 160bhp engine in it and was 8.4m and 5.2 tonne
I found that slow too. That's why I found the 2.8l 130bhp hymer at 7 metres and 3.9 tonne like a racecar after it

This van I was initially impressed how well it goes for its size and weight and if I spent most of my time on motorways I reckon I'd not bother trying to improve it .. but I know I'm going to be on some steep windy mountain passes and I'd like that bit more torque if I can get it.

I've ordered a new set of monroe van magnum gas shocks for the front.

Hopefully it's the correct ones . Should be here by Friday. I won't get them fitted just now but I'll replace them at somepoint on the road.

Sounds the best plan to me.

I’ve must have missed something because I thought you had said it drives really nice, once you and Just smiffy had sorted the engine running.

Good plan, if it's not them you can't be carrying every front suspension component, but you have, what I would think, is the most likely and a wear and tear part.

Even though ours is 6.5 metres it’s still 4.9 tonne so not much less than your Frankia weight wise.

From my research Tam, they are the same for the Iveco Daily Mk2, MK3, and MK4, so should fit okay.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

It does on smooth roads. Motorways are great. Town roads you feel every bump

What throws me is on ebay you fill in a bit called your garage, i have all the details filled in for my van and it will then show me the parts that are supposed to be for my van. Some listing it will say yes others it says no .

But there are shocks listed for this both monroe van magnum but have different lengths yet both say they fit this van 🤔
