There's a lot of for and against here, but I'm not seeing much in the way of compromise suggestions. For Golf tournaments they use a set system for potential players and I would have thought it might be adaptable for FUN meets.

Something like Group 1 - offer to all last years attendees; Group 2 have a points system for those who usually come but couldn't last year up to half of what's left, Newbies - in a draw or first replies for what's left (minimum 50% after Group 1).

Specialist meets could include a ranking for Ukes, canoeing, wine tasting or whatever. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Now there's an idea, just put all the names into a hat after an advertised deadline (and with plenty of time for the unlucky ones to make alternative arrangements ) and leave fate to choose the mixture of attending.
There would be a reserve list of the next 15 drawn, of course!

You can't get much fairer than that! 🤔

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
Levy a booking deposit like the CAMC.
A year's deposits should make enough interest for a Welcome glass of wine and a burger.

I have done a couple of very small meets, both times had requests to ‘please put me down for next year if you do it again’

I think that’s fair , but I am surprised that every single place at Bridlington was taken by an attendee from the previous year 🤔 I can only presume ‘spare’ places were then offered to attendees to bring a mate, removing option for new people to book unless a mate is going

It doesn’t bother me, life is chucking bigger issues my way , but for the excess places it looks unfair

For the life of me I can't see what's the big deal here, if there's no room you don't get to go , so what , there will be another one along soon.
If you are so eager to meet someone at it , go and park somewhere close and meet your friends in a nearby pub or something.

Somebody would still complain it was a rigged draw.

It was getting around the need for transparency that stopped me doing it that way. Unless the draw is done by Jim, but then he has his favourites would be the cry.

As I said earlier, I can't think of a better way than pre notification of the time and the first n get in.

Whether full or not Chas, you'll always get into any event with yours. All you'll need is one of these for a tenner.........

Are we all equal members of 'motorhomefun' or not?
To keep it topical this smacks of two tier fun!

I used to organise a very big event for many years dealing with the general public (rather than a closed group) and I wouldn't dream of getting involved in running any event now. Hats off to those that are prepared to do so however big or small.

However we should all have an equal opportunity to partake of the benefits of any event organised under the auspices of 'FUN'.
1st past the post at a published time and date seems like the best option and if you are not quick enough on the button then tough.

enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
I can see the discussion from both sides, but having organised one rally and in the midst of organising another, which is still not full after it being advertised for a couple of weeks now, I can add that it made it to easier for me to let a few people know it was 'coming up', that had asked to be notified, although pre booking other than for the Marshalls was not allowed ...

That gave me the reassurance that the rally would go ahead and allowed me to confirm as such with the campsite, so that they could reserve those dates.

If I had only had a couple of responses, then I wouldn't have been able to progress it as far as I have, so pre notifications (NOT pre bookings) helped me.

I assume other rally organisers have their reasons for allowing pre bookings to their rallies and I'm not sure any explanations as to why are necessary....

I'm holding a rally at our place for New Year.

Free food.
Free beer
Guaranteed 25c weather.
Heated swimming pool.

But only room for 20 vans at our place.
So unfortunately only first 20 applicants will be successful.

Seem to remember your comments re the Retro festival that only fun members who were active and posted should be allowed on "fun rallies" 😉 how it changes when it suits 😂
Going to have to correct you Dave, I never said that Jim did I may have relayed it to people who were having trouble booking.
Also the Retro is not a Rally it is a public event that Fun had access to a field courtesy of the RVOC.
The restrictions came about due to last year, where members were passing on links to non-members & we had non-members in the field also a number of so called members who only joined to get in the field and never posted or involved in the Forum. The marshals had lots of problems with these people so the decision was taken to restrict it to genuine Funsters.

Some of the organisers ask for interested names before embarking on any approaches/bookings this gives an idea if the early is feasible.
Fastest finger first is fine if you have the time and inclination to do it on a day and date stipulated
Happy to be on a reserve list but it's not the end of the world.
There are a number or excellent organisers who are starting to think of stepping back.
So without fresh blood rallies could become endangered.
Also different venue options offered up by newbies can only benefit the members .
I often visit places and think
This would be nice for a rally
Then think
I wonder who would organise it 🤔

It’s a difficult one but understandable if there are a group of people who want to rally together with the benefits of Fun insurance etc.

I remember a ukulele rally that was organised a few years ago (it sadly didn’t go ahead) but the fastest finger first system meant that it was almost entirely non-ukulele players that booked on it. Some even admitted that they didn’t like ukes but they were willing to put up with them 🤷‍♀️
Should of said it was a bagpipes rally you would easily of got on🤣🤣🤣

Yes, thank you
I take it Bridlington has only one venue suitable for motorhomes in that particular week💨? No idea last time we went it reminded us and smelt like Fleetwood !

In my view you need to take your hat off to anyone organising a rally it's a lot of hard work and big outlay of time and money and not a lot of people are willing to come forward to organise these rallies.
Yes, me and hubby organised microcar rallies all over the country for 14 years so I know only too well how demanding they can be.

So I can't see any problems in the organiser running that rally how they find fit, after all it's their rally their rules as long as they are executed within the "fun rally rules"
You've hit the nail on the head, it is their rally, not a freely attendable Funster rally, to me that goes against the friendly, inclusive nature of the forum.

Quite happy with the way rallies and meets are allowed to be arranged at the moment.

A good mix of first come, first served rallies and of course a few that are full before publicised or by invite only for whatever various reasons.

As many people have already said we are grateful to the people that put so much effort in to organising them and realise we won’t get on every one we would like to or be invited to join 100% of the rallies/ meets.

I may suffer a bit of FOMO occasionally but never resent the choices made by the organisers ☺️

Have you supported any "open" rallies not seen you supporting any so why think it's not fair
No I haven't been to any rallies due to having had to look after 2 very poorly dogs for many months, my Mum in her 90s to support, my step MIL being diagnosed with cancer and passing away within a few months leaving my step FIL who has dementia to look out for, not to mention my being affected badly by the first CV vac (from which I still have issues), so I've not been able to commit to any.

If I had done so then had to cancel I would have felt bad at depriving others of the chance to book initially and plan their year.

I think it's not fair for the reasons I've given already.

Have been on a few rallies, some i would have liked to join, but timing, of the rally/meet of when it was advertised didn't fit. Have booked on rallies and then had to, usually due to family issues, withdraw, hopefully allowing someone on the reserve list to attend.
Can see where Minxy is coming from, but also would not like to be the one running a rally.
This has been around for a while, there were complaints when it was realised PM's were being sent to advise in advance of a posting and rallies were booked up in minutes by the selected group. Pre booked is not new and not friendly.
Those old enough will remember all of the things that happened at ' facts ', exclude new members joining in and things go very wrong. Other private rallies and breakaways.
Attended a few 'facts' rallies was unaware of any issues.

If you feel so strongly about it organise a rally, then you will see how much hard work goes in to it.
Their rally, their rules.

Motorhomefun does not organise rallies. The members do. Rallies are all run by individual Funsters. They are free to invite who they like quietly or publicly. It’s always been that way.

Just a handful of people put themselves out to run rallies, apart from the obvious safety issues, I’m not going to insist they run them in a particular way. We need more people to run rallies. If you are interested give me a shout and we can help.

Would the draw be secret or public?

As there would definitely be someone saying the draw was fixed 🙄😂
