Tam & Toby ~~Hunting Zorba

my heart goes out to you, you must be bloody devastated, but thankfully as someone else said, it happened this side of the water, would have been a nightmare the other side..
you'll get it sorted though and will be able to have your greek adventure, later if not sooner, have faith, you have the best wishes of all on this forum behind you wishing you well..

Well the recovery truck is now here ...because of where I'm stopped we needed to move the van back and he got me to start it up which it did ....he doesn't think the cambelt is affected so I don't know .....there's a nasty rattle but he thinks that could be water pump or something

Loading it up now
Sounds good.

Surely someone who lives down there can recommend a really good Garage/mechanic who could sort it rather than dragging it back up to Scotland..Seems a wasteless journey..BUSBY.

Already discussed this with Tam, Lancing Commercial are only just over a mile from me but the problem is if there is any engine damage it could be a long job.

Going to be the same anywhere..Would think breakdown insurance would pay for a hotel whilst it's being fixed.Dogs could be a problem though but there are pet friendly places.BUSBY.

Although it will get shifted with your insurance, I would definitely try somewhere down there, if it's only the alternator belt you could be on your way on Tuesday.

Struth! Tam’s doing my head in...got the same van and doing a similar long journey..could you not have lied for a few weeks Tam and said you were lying on a beach in Croatia...get some fake photos off the web and photoshop yourself in....too late now I suppose....

Could be a good time to do some preventative maintenance so you don’t suffer similar woes 👍👍

I thought of that...But what do you replace...perhaps I should have the alternator belt and fan belt replaced...cam belt done two years ago.. at least that’s what I was told when I bought it a few months ago and there is a sticker in the engine compartment saying it was done.....mine takes a few goes to start and when I stop the engine there’s a loudish knock underneath....no idea what the problem is....going to take it to a garage in Pisa in a few days although all the garages I have emailed have ignored the email...including that one so will just turn up and hope..I think possibly because they are Fiat car garages. Anyone know a good garage in Pisa please let me know or Perugia or Florence or anywhere ! ...I’m probably worrying about nothing..but Tams escapades put the beejeezus up me ☹....I wish he’d buy a brand new van...I’m almost willing to contribute a couple of Scottish pounds to the cause...

on the plus side my Banners just won’t give up....anyway small problem compared to Tams

New vans are a bigger nightmare when they go wrong, even more electronics & dealers don't appear to have a clue.
Alright get a really really old one then....1956 or something....just not the same van as me and same year !

Tried to take mine to Lancing Commercial a few months back for service and MOT but there was a 5 week waiting list...They seem to want to prioritise their commercial stuff as that’s their bread and butter...or might just have been because of Covid...

Absolute nightmare this

So the guy loaded Toby on to the truck ...he said we were going to a services so he could drop the van off for relay recovery and he would take me to hire car place ..he insisted the dogs stayed in Toby which I objected to but he said I had to ...so thinking services wasn't far I reluctantly agreed ....roll on an hour later and we are stuck in a traffic jam on the a23 about 12 miles south of please pottage which is where he's taking the van to and then he has to take me to Crawley for the car ....sat in the jam for 45 mins and I said look I have to bring the dogs in here as they will be scared in there ...he has the bright idea that I stay in Toby with them so I'm now in my camper on the back of a breakdown truck with the dogs ....dogs are fine thankfully but I'm not leaving them in here alone anymore so I'm in here till we get to the services 12 miles away ....if the traffic starts to get moving which it's showing no sign of doing so far .

You couldn't make this crap up

Both AA guys have different opinions on Toby so I don't know what's for the best.
But I think this nightmare is a long way from over

He drives like an idiot too considering there's a motorhome on the back
Why he doesn't want dogs in the truck is beyond me

Presume it's company policy. Not all like to share a vehicle they can smell dogs in.No offence we had six at one time and as much as you keep them clean they do have a smell. BUSBY.

We broke down in a car near to Bakewell Derbyshire, due to covid 2 persons couldn’t sit in the relay vehicle as myself and Phil would have been too close to the driver so we both sat in the car on the back.
Its interesting what we get away with due to covid.

When we had our nightmare recovery from AA and ultimately had a private recovered dog came in the cab n9 problem - I think it’s drivers preferences
sympathy Tam it’s just a horrible feeling

If you are south of Bonley Google is showing the A23 closed.
Accident in the roadworks, all lanes closed in both directions.

Edit:
maybe OK that info was from Live Traffic News, just noticed the time was 9:51 am, hardly live.

Hope you've got your seatbelt on! :ROFLMAO:

I broke down a few years ago and my two x 50kg Ridgebacks were allowed in the truck, but it wasn't AA

Tam I hope your sorted soon and on your way again. But I must admit I am laughing at the thought of you and the dogs sitting in your motorhome on the back of a recovery going along. ::bigsmile: You should have said you live in Greece could have saved a few bob on fuel getting recovered down to there. Good luck.(y)

A23 still showing as closed at Bolney. I’ll try to keep you updated as best I can.

When we broke down March this year in France, there was no worries about our dog going in the breakdown truck.
Hoping it won’t be to bad to fix.
