Tam & Toby ~~Hunting Zorba

Like you found, my lifetime maps never seemed to work so it was very out of date.
I just got a Samsung 8" tablet and I`m going to see how that works as a sat nav with Google Maps.
May try one of the other apps, Sygnic Truck is meant to be good for £11.99 one off payment.
First outing with it tomorrow, a trip down to Cornwall
Yes I gave up with Sat Nav lifetime maps..Let alone two ! Just use Googlemaps on my iPad now although I notice with Campercontact it only allows Applemaps whereas it used to allow Google maps as well. What’s the point of paying for a SatNav these days....

Well we left witshire around 10.30am and I'm now not far from Lenny HB at the public weighbridge....front axle 1720kg rear axle 2200kg so im well below 3900kg but right on the limit for rear end .. which is surprising as I no longer have the bike rack and bike etc
Going to have lunch now then I'll head to Lenny's in a couple of hours
What are you carrying in your garage ! I’ve got a Honda Vision scooter in mine and I’m just onto 2200KG as well...bags of £1 coins from all your tips ?

Very little which is why I believe it's incorrect.

So I left Lenny HB around 2.15pm ...I headed along to Worthing as I thought a nice walk with the dogs to see the pier was in order ....couldn't get parked anywhere it was absolutely heaving ....so I thought I'd head to Brighton and do the same ..planned to park on Madeira drive and see the pier ...only when you get to the entrance for Madeira drive it's closed off with concrete bollards and no vehicular access ...so the nearest I could park was saltdean ....4 motorhomes there but only space available the van was on a serious side tilt so I had some lunch ,walked the dogs along the beach a bit and then moved again I'm now at a small parking spot next to a park in Brighton it's pay and display till 4pm then free till 9am ...one MH and a large RV here ...seems quiet enough so I'll chance parking here tonight ...was chatting to the couple in the other motorhome it's their first one and their first holiday ..2 very young kids with them.
Just going to pop my dinner on now ....once again I'm afraid theres no photos as I couldn't even get one out the window as traffic very busy ....roll on tomorrow and MH friendly Europe

Looks like a school dinner! We had bbq chicken legs marinated in garlic, mustard, lime and chilli and a dash of liquid smoke. Big leafy salad with avo and tomatoes.
Not when I was at school lol ....it was mince and tatties with sponge and pink custard for afters lol

You do know the salad does not cancel out the high calories of the rest 😉

It's like £30 of Chinese and a bottle of diet coke 😁

Safe trip Tam, that's the biggest problem in the UK 😲 parking even without overnight it's a nightmare, we left Javea Monday lunchtime parked in four cities and wandered round and a small town last night, parked and free services every night and spent €25 eating out. 😁
As I did all the driving on our last trip, Janie has been in the seat this time, the journey has been quite fast, when I mentioned she could slow down a bit 🙄 .............. She said I don't want to be driving all day. 😁 Bob.

Yep any parking is a nightmare in the UK ...that couple parked here last night with the 2 kids were saying the same thing ..they wanted to take the kids to the sealife centre ...they had to park here and get a taxi both ways ...as well as the £40 for the sealife centre tickets they ended up with taxi fares etc ...

)Wot,no carrots!?
Wot,no gravy!?
Very Scottish.
Tates look nice though.

Are you going to run a MHF cooking course along the way?
I had gravy the other night with me bangers and mash , and I've no fresh veg I'll have to get some in a market somewhere lol

Tatties are with butter and garlic Italian ...luvvly jubbly

Brighton council is one of the most anti-car councils in the country its been like that for the last 30 - 40 years.
Traffic wardens work 24/7 365 days a year, some area single yellow lines mean no parking 24/7 very easy to get caught out. I won't take the car into Brighton, loads of roads blocked off forcing all traffic onto a few roads which causes massif delays. I only go there if I have to, it's a bit of a dump.

Tam Needs Urgent Help.

He has just broken down around the back of Hastings, anyone know a good commercial garage in the area preferably not a main dealer.
AA man just turned up but only in a Transit but he is probably going to need recovering.
He can get it recovered back to me or I've arranged with my brother in law he can go there and borrow his car but he is in Lydd which is a bit remote.

Engine has been spluttering a bit and the alternator not charging, battery volts low, could be engine management playing up due to low volts. Also although the temperature showing normal but expansion bottle over flow which to me could be overheating. When he turns the starter motor makes a lot of noise but doesn't turn the engine that could be low volts.

Could be as simple as the alternator belt has failed (my guess) or could need a garage.

Oh dear weekend as well :( when's his crossing?
One thing, better here than in France.

Hasn’t the AA man suggested what wrong.
Tam will blame the Hymer, always going wrong.

Sounds like a drive belt but wouldn't the breakdown guy have spotted it or is access too difficult?

That’s what I thought, belt access isn’t to bad, lay under van to adjust mine.

Update:
My guess was right, alternator belt snapped but nothing is easy for Tam. The belt broke part of the cam belt cover and looks like either a bit of belt or plastic got jammed in the cam belt/gears and may have caused it to jump a tooth or two. Tam did say engine made a lot of noise before he stopped it, hope it's not bent too many valves.

He was on the Tunnel at 5 today, looks like he is going to get Toby recovered back home as it could be a long & expensive fix.

Close shave, it could have been really bad news if it had happened in France.

That's a shame

Well disaster has struck and for now it looks like I have to go home

AA man agrees it's the best option as it could be a serious issue or it might not but he highly recommends that it gets checked before trying to start it.

Basically the drive belt has snapped and shredded ...there's a bit of plastic broken out the cambelt cover and he thinks a bit of belt has went in to the cambelt and caused it to jump off the teeth.

It's speculation at best but with being a weekend and the way garages work he thinks the cambelt needs taken off ,quite possibly the head to check valves etc and then a new belt fitted

He does say it could be as simple as replacing the drive belt and starting it and could be lucky BUT if it's jumped it could wreck the engine

Recovery could take 24hours plus as it will be changed trucks a few times ...so he's arranging a hire car for me from Gatwick

I'll update when I know more

To say I'm absolutely gutted is an understatement

If I'd neglected the van it would be different but I've done everything to it this year
