Tam & Toby ~~Hunting Zorba

If I'd neglected the van it would be different but I've done everything to it this year
Make yourself feel better, blame the Spanish guy who changed the alternator, probably didn't fit a new belt on fitted a cheap one.

Sorry to read this. Looking forward to drone coverage of your travels. Hopefully a cheap and quick fix.

Gutting. :( But if it has jumped any damage will have already been done so I'm not sure restarting it will do any more? But I'm no expert.

What a bugger!
Still perhaps better now than when in Greece or some remote parts.
You were looking forward so much to the trip too.
Hey ho! That’s life. Get it fixed and start again.

Richard.

So sorry to hear this Tam, like thousands of others on here, was really looking forward to following you. Can only guess how gutted you must be feeling. I hope it's not to expensive to fix & you can be away again soon. Keep your chin up mate.:rolleyes:

You are not alone Tam.

I feel really sorry for you tam but as others have pointed out at least you won’t have the language barrier to deal with And if it’s attended to by a local garage in Scotland if there is any issues you have recourse.
our 6 week old iveco has a knackered power steering system after only 3500 km on the clock, s**t happens. However at least we are on a free car park till Monday.

Well the little van has bugered off I'm now waiting for the recovery truck ...so grabbing the opportunity to pack some stuff and have some lunch ...he will drop me at enterprise car rental in Crawley where I'll pick up a car to get home ... hopefully the van will be up tomorrow sometime

I'm having it recovered to the guys who did the cambelt change and will see what they say when it's back there.
That's the problem with AA guys as they vary from good mechanics to simply recovery guys ...he did say it was best to prepare for the worst and hope for the best . God knows what time I will get home at. Might have to grab a few hours sleep in the car somewhere so I best take a blanket with me too

I've postponed the tunnel etc

Just noticed when the hire company phoned to get licence details that my licence expired end of October 🤦 have to say I never look at that but I'm guessing it's the photo

Sometimes it's harder to tell whether I'm the luckiest guy in the world or the unluckiest

What can I say Tam, you must be pig sick!
Don't forget to take a bottle of water and a bowl for tbe pups, probably some dog food too as I don't suppose you will have left any with your Mum.
A pillow would probably make your rest break a bit more comfortable too.
Drive carefully and take your time, stay safe.

Chin up Tam... look at it that your trip has just been postponed, I would be gutted too but try and look at the positive that better here then over in Europe....

besides, you did get to see Lenny HB so not a complete waste..🤔

a few shifts at the Chinese should cover it...

really feel for you mate...🤗

Have you sold yours yet?
How much for cash lol ....I think this one is trying to tell me something

I told you you can spend the night here we are only 35-40 min from Gatwick, 26 miles from Enterprise.
Thanks for the offer but I just want to head up home probably better driving later anyway as cooler and quieter ....I'll take a blanket with me so I can stop and grab a few hours kip if need be .

Yeah I've packed food treats water etc for the dogs

Not when I was at school lol ....it was mince and tatties with sponge and pink custard for afters lol

You do know the salad does not cancel out the high calories of the rest 😉

It's like £30 of Chinese and a bottle of diet coke 😁
What at school ! You must be younger than me ! In Fife for afters as it was called it was sago or semolina with a jam face lol

Well disaster has struck and for now it looks like I have to go home

AA man agrees it's the best option as it could be a serious issue or it might not but he highly recommends that it gets checked before trying to start it.

Basically the drive belt has snapped and shredded ...there's a bit of plastic broken out the cambelt cover and he thinks a bit of belt has went in to the cambelt and caused it to jump off the teeth.

It's speculation at best but with being a weekend and the way garages work he thinks the cambelt needs taken off ,quite possibly the head to check valves etc and then a new belt fitted

He does say it could be as simple as replacing the drive belt and starting it and could be lucky BUT if it's jumped it could wreck the engine

Recovery could take 24hours plus as it will be changed trucks a few times ...so he's arranging a hire car for me from Gatwick

I'll update when I know more

To say I'm absolutely gutted is an understatement

OMG just read your disaster . All is not lost once repaired you will live another day !

Tam

Just found out your woes. I am so sorry for you and the decisions of what to do are not easy, but maybe you are best off on your own territory, even if it is a slog to get there.

You are the third Funster to break down in last few hours - Lenny told you about Mr. Porky's steering problem, and there is another on French side of ditch who had a levelling jack extend onto road in motion. So you are not alone.

We are all feeling for you if that helps.

Good luck with getting home and the MH being recovered.

Geoff

Well the recovery wagon is lost ...I was told he would be here at 14.15.
Then 15.15. and now just had driver phone and say the satnav has taken him to a farm and he's lost ...I'm on a main road lol so not holding out much hope of him finding Scotland ....jeeso

Make sure you pack anything you may need in the next few days, in case the van is delayed! 😒

Sorry to hear your news Tam . Im guessing with the cam belt replaced turn the engine by hand you will tell if something has been damaged . Best of luck (y)

Well the recovery truck is now here ...because of where I'm stopped we needed to move the van back and he got me to start it up which it did ....he doesn't think the cambelt is affected so I don't know .....there's a nasty rattle but he thinks that could be water pump or something

Loading it up now

Just caught up with this, gutted for you, hope it turns out ok for you.
Safe travels 👍🏻
Even if it's the wrong direction
