Tam & Toby ~~Hunting Zorba

Brill. I’ve always used Search for Sites so far, but P4N looks like it’s next on the download list.

Lovely quiet night here last night you could hear a pin drop and that was with 7 other vans here .... unbelievably dark though ..I took dogs out for a pee at midnight and couldn't see an inch in front of my face...the wee wimps were scared so did sod all lol ....woke up around 7.30 but too lazy to get up so just out of bed now and having a coffee ....5 big coaches turned up but no one on them ....very weird

So after a spot of breakfast we will head out for a walk and then hit the road again ....not sure where I'm going today ...Cotswolds looks nice area or the South downs so both possible if I can find a nice quiet spot ....and somewhere for lunch en route ....any recommendations?

Hi Tam, A possible but vague overnight /rest break for you that ive used a couple of times (with permission)is just to the left of the A419 midway between Cirencester and Swindon.
It is a carpark attached to a nature reserve/wetlands area adjacent to an "outdoor shop" and cafe. It is clearly signed off the A419.More than that I can't tell you as all my maps, notes etc are back in the Uk but if I was able to find it more than once, i am sure you would have no trouble. it is or was free and ideal for the dogs.

I'll have a look for that on p4n 👍

Just stopped for some lunch .. Keele services on M6 gawd this road is boooooriiing.

I thought all trucks were limited to 56mph! ....I've just done 80 miles on the M6 cruise control all the way set at 62mph yet I had on occasion a couple of Scania right up my ass ...other times I had to go in to lane 4 to pass the other 3 lanes of bloody trucks all edging past each other.

This is probably of no interest to anyone bar me

Used this a couple of times rather than motorway service station prices....

Also when using Google maps...

Hit the 'my location' button..
In the search box, type "Fuel"
Local filling stations show up.

Thay you for the night now, Tam?

I'd really like to find something which brings up dog walking off the motorway, near a junction, we don't need the services but end up pulling into the carpark just to give the dogs access to grass at reasonable intervals when travelling.

Finally parked up for the night .....nothing fancy regarding this parking spot but I'm the only one here , it's free and it was convenient I'm about 6 miles south of Cirencester .

It's actually an old road that's been bypassed and is now a dead end. Leads to a public bridleway so handy for a dog walk which we've just done.
I stopped off and topped up my lpg at a co-op fuel station about 10 miles back only took £8.50 so I wasn't needing much

I think I'm gonna have to change my satnav voices to male because these two kate ( xgody) and Elizabeth ( TomTom ) can't agree on anything ....they've been fighting and disagreeing for the last 20 miles and Kate needs a good slap ....she took me way off in the wrong direction and I ended up just 2 miles from Wooton basset which was a good 22 miles past where I had planned to park ....now I know Elizabeth is much older and more experienced and Kate is just a young thing but she's very arrogant ....one would say turn right in 200yards and the other would argue it was left in 500 feet ....poor jade was losing the plot ...anyway in the end I just ignored Kate and let Elizabeth make the decisions .... tomorrow I'm going to try Peter and Andrew ( he's Australian ) and see if they are any better.

Anyway we've arrived ...I'm wanting a shower then I'm going to make bangers and mash with mushy peas and gravy for dinner.
No exciting pics tonight I'm afraid but it was mostly a travel day to eat up the miles

End mileage today is 109020
415 miles from home.

Hi Tam,looking forward to following your tour i have enjoyed the last 2,stay safe.

Firle beacon on the South downs is good. Sea view from the South downs way

Maybe school/work buses which had dropped off and were parking up.

https://www.drivingwithdogs.co.uk is a good resource - also identifies MH friendly parking and pubs and cafes etc.. Some free resources and then a premium membership for full access and maps etc. You can often 'fill in the gaps' using google search and google earth / maps ;)

I used to have Ozzy Osbourne as a Tom Tom voice, so funny to start with but the novelty soon wore off and I`d switch to Michael Palin who was much easier on the ears

My Tom Tom is out of date ...supposed to be lifetime maps but I missed one last year when in Spain and then another came out by the time I was home ... apparently if it missed one it won't take the next one so about 18 months out of date ...hence me buying another. The xcody one is a trucknav so you can enter dimensions etc ...I figured if I use both I should do okay
Can only pick standard voices though on both though

Like you found, my lifetime maps never seemed to work so it was very out of date.
I just got a Samsung 8" tablet and I`m going to see how that works as a sat nav with Google Maps.
May try one of the other apps, Sygnic Truck is meant to be good for £11.99 one off payment.
First outing with it tomorrow, a trip down to Cornwall

Hi Tam

Is your cruise control standard or a retro fit? I am very jealous, as I would love it on mine. Much better for long journeys, especially on Spanish roads.

Any recommendations would be welcome.
