Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

I forgot just how much I enjoyed the Santa semana practices and Easter parades etc last year , I'm actually dissapointed I'll be out of Spain before Easter this year :(

Have you discussed that with your two Spanish-born Nationals?

You might be outvoted.

I do not know what the prison sentence in Spain is for kidnap, but do you really want to test it?

Speaking of whom, we haven't had our puppy fix for what seems to be a long time Tam.
You may have had the odd little inconveniences of things like changing the alternator- but I want to see puppies! :p

Thanks Tam you are a star, but my wretched phone says it can't play it

And just when this tread was getting back to manly Motorhome diy and traveling stuff.....:notworthy:

The ebl is the electrobloc/battery charger. It would seem there's an inbuilt switch inside that controls the amount of charge coming from alternator to the batteries . As my solar controllers are also wired through the ebl they too are controlled by this switch.
I think the switch is knackered and instead of the 25+amps it should put in I get about 2-3amps
Bloody hell Tam don't you ever listen to anything I tell you boy. Lost count how many times I told you about the EBL on the forum and in PM's.

The solar connections on the EBL are straight through to the batteries, NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ALTERNATOR CHARGING, sorry for shouting folks but sometimes the only way to get through to a Scot.

The alternator charging is no different to any other van with a split charge relay except the relay is inside the EBL.

I thought you said because the solar controllers were wired through the ebl that the switch inside that controlled how many amps got to batteries etc was reducing the input?

Even in bright sunshine I'm only getting 2.5-3.5 amps from my solar which is nowhere near what I got on the Frankia which I had wired straight to the leisure batteries.
I know it's nothing to do with the alternator charging but otherwise I'm lost lol

I did say electrics isn't my thing

Didn't you say one controller was wired via the EBL and one was direct to the battery. If so you are only seeing the current from one panel.

No both solar panels connected via ebl.
1 is just leisure batteries ( the shaudt one )
And the other does leisure and engine.
Both controllers are too small to connect both panels to 1.

Isn't one regulator a LR1218 that has the signal lead that gives the info to the EBL and the other one a cheapie. So solar on the control panel will only show the output from one panel.

Yeah.

I assumed if both wired to ebl the control panel would show input from both

I'm not sure about signal lead

Both controllers have a + and - feed from panels too them and a + and - from them to the ebl.

The cheap one has a second + wired in to the starter battery at ebl.

So I left chinchilla this morning drove in to albacete...didn't like it so drove out again . Followed up the n332 and currently stopped in requena for a coffee I'll probably head to tereul but I'm finding inland a little dull if I'm honest , not even mountaineous round here is very flat and most of the town's are wuite charmless ...so will see what tereul is like.

It's only been 5 days but I'm actually missing the sea lol.

I think you are coming into another flatish area between Teruel and Zaragoza. I didn't like it til I was north of Zaragoza into the foothills of the Pyrenees. Then it was beautiful

Yes it is flat all te way to Zaragoza. Flatter than a flat thing as Paul says . & I agree with Val that it certainly improves after Zaragoza into the Pyrenee's

Depends what you are looking at on the panel, if is the solar charge which I think your panel is capable of showing it will only show the output from the Schaudt unit.
If you are looking at the total amps you need add on any current being used in the van to get an idea how much solar input you are getting.

Could be interesting to disconnect one controller at a time and see what readings you get.

If it's any consolation Tam it's cold and wet here today (n) :(
Get back on the Coastal routes
We are in Castellon a very toasty 23degrees:D:D
I'm on the n330 now about 25km from teruel this road is a bit better , more hilly with forest and now changed from grey stone to red which adds a bit character.

Beautiful sunny day though so not all bad

That's the thing although the panel is capable of showing the solar it doesn't.

I'm just going by the + or minus amp reading

If you have a dt203 panel the following is how to get the solar amps display to work. Of limited use if another controller is in use so no signal to indicate charge rate of non schaudt contoller.

Dt203 has a service menu. It is this that enables the solar facility. To enter it you must
Have switched the 12v off on the dt203
Then press menu and ok together for at least 5 seconds.
It will request a pin number. Hymer use 8251.
Press the ok button and first digit flashes, use + or- keys to getcorrect number and confirm by pressing ok, 2nd digit flashes etc.
Now you are into what you can do. Solar is parameter 4. The flashing symbol can be selected on or off using + -. Press ok to confirm.
The symbol stops flashing and using menue next symbol can be selected.
To exit press 12v button or wait 30 seconds.
Be careful as you can turn things off you want
Thanks for the above to a guy calked davesport.
As am typing on tablet have abbreiviated but you get the idea.

Different panel mine is the dt201

Tam, no doubt a bit soon ,but when I was heading South last time I crossed the "Haute Pyrenees " on the D929 lovely route, through the Bielsa tunnel (that was in September though). On the French side the town of Aragnouet had a very large (Moho friendly car park) right next to the shops /cafés /laundry. Thought it might be of interest to you :)
