From the tests we have already done it seems the wiring from starter to habitation is fine as getting similar volts all the way through
In that case it must be the alternator, or the wiring from the alternator to the starter battery.

Just take it somewhere and get it fixed...

Are the dogs and your mum ok?

Pics please - Not of the EBL !

Tam - I haven't asked but is your fridge on 12v whilst doing these tests? The alternator output is shared between charging the two batteries and operating the fridge. The fridge alone draws 8 - 10A.
To be honest i can't remember if it was on during all the tests but would have been during a few as I tend to leave it on auto select

I would if I knew somewhere that I felt knew what they were doing ....but not much expertise around here ...ive phoned a few places and haven't given me much confidence.

Yeah mum and dogs are doing well

Not taken many pics recently

You need a breezeblock on the accelerator pedal, lol.
Its that bloody sensitive.....i had it jammed the other day with a bar jsmmed against the seat but the next thing I knew it was way up at 4500rpm lol

Aye but I put voltmeter on alternator this morning and getting 14.38v and only a bit less at the starter battery.

D1 connection seems okay too but very thin wire

Main wire is about 12mm thick

Ahh, must admit I havent tried it with my B654, but i used to charge the leisure batteries on my Murvi that way. I experimented with various items in the van, until i had it running at 2000 rpm.

Worked a treat!!

I think the answer is that your alternator is female. :giggle: As a result it is affected in a totally random fashion by the days/weeks of the month, the phases of the moon and the price of rice in Sainsbury’s (other grocers shops are available).
What you need to do is pretend to ignore it’s problems for a couple of days, then feign sorrow at not paying it enough attention. Really pile it on and say how so sorry you are,how selfish you’ve been and that you just can’t believe how stupid you are to treat it that way. Then promise it a week away in the Maldives and a new Audi rag top to play with.....and you’ll both be fine. She’ll be chucking out so many volts/amps/ currents/currants/ohms/and god knows what else you’ll be flying high!!!:LOL::LOL:
Well,it might work!;);)

Not a chance, a Spanish alternator being serenaded by Scotsman.:whatthe:

Need one of these

I was just home letting dogs out for a wee so i thought I'd try it running with fridge switched off ....still 5.8a
Switch fridge to 12v and it stays the same 5.8v
Batteries are at 95% just now though as solar was connected to charge them back up

Would be interesting to know what current you are getting to the fridge on 12v should be around 12 to 14 amps but you can't check that with your meter.

I know its pretty rubbish on 12v thats for sure

There was a high pitched buzzing coming from the relay on that for a while so I changed it and thought it would be better but its not really

Two relays inside the EBL both switched by the D+, one feeds the fridge the other feeds the leisure battery. I woldnt expect problems with both relays but not impossible.

So what is the wee relay that's screwed to the back of the fridge?
Thats the one i replaced as I thought it was for the fridge.

Also I still don't understand the volts and amps thing ..

At what point does it change to amps?
And if its constantly getting 14v how does the amps change.

Like my solar panels ....if i put voltmeter on the wires from each panel I get 21v from each of them

I think that is something on the fridge control circuit nothing to do with getting power from the alternator.
Have you got a photo?

I'll take a photo of it tomorrow

That link hurts my head .....i never understood algebra either

The simple solution is fit a B2B you know it will work , and in long run probably most cost effective JMHO
I love my B2B and would recommend one to Northernraider ,,,,,,BUT NOT ATM , reason is a B2B just tricks the alternator into working harder and producing more power , but atm I really think Tam could have a problem with his alternator as it is.

How much is a new alternator or a refurbushed one?

Tam Think about A 12v battery for a torch , it’s 12v BUT wouldn’t start you 12v MH
the battery could be 1300mah BUT the battery to start your van could be 160amp

it’s the same putting power into batteries 1300mah input could show 12v
same as 20amp input could show 12v

I think you Probably already Know this , if so ignore me 😰

Thats what concerns me also

So really then without knowing the current travelling through any of these cables the voltage is irrelevant?

I've ordered a clamp meter ....but could take till 8th to get here

being a plumber ,i would use this analogy , I get people telling me they have no pressure when the water trickles out of a tap
BUT if you put your finger over the end of the tap it will spray for miles , what they have is no volume but lots of pressure ,
