Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

I think the only way a charger can knacker a battery is by cooking it (over charging) have you heard it charging or bubbling ..?
You would get a smell in the van...
I know with two geezers and a girl living in the van you would get some similar smells...😉

Nope no smells or anything out of the ordinary...and again the control panel ( which may or may not be accurate ) consistently shows all batteries at 100% and all sitting around 13.8v when I'm plugged in.

Not plugged in at the minute but obviously there is solar input so panel is currently displaying the leisure batteries at 100% and 13.5v and the engine battery at 13.2v

Tonight once the sun has gone I'll see what voltage they are showing and again in the morning.

I'll try starting the van again first thing in the morning and see what happens there also.

Might be an idea to unplug my solar tonight once dark so it's not getting any further input in the morning.

Could the problem be the old earth strap fault that used to come up frequently?
Haven't seen it mentioned on here for a while but a couple of years ago there seemed to be a spate of people having starter battery problems that stemmed from dodgy earth straps between battery and chassis.
Might be worth checking.

Richard.

Yep that was my first suspicion when I had battery problems back in march so I removed the earth strap and cleaned it all up ...to be fair it was already pretty clean but it seems ok.

I've started the van a total of 7 times now since the problem this morning and its started fine each time 🤷‍♂️ very weird

So I'm going to leave the hook up off it tonight and see if it still starts up tomorrow.

In other news despite my crap electrical skills I've fitted in a phone/tablet charging station by my bed so I can charge phone overnight 😁

Done it via a switch so it doesn't cause any other drain while not in use ...

I did the same Tam..... fed up with cables everywhere!

Northernraider chrisinplymouth Where did you guys get the switch from as it isn't a Halfords item?

Sounds like there is one if tams given his attention (y)(y)
Does it run from the gearbox to the chassis Northernraider ?
My one goes from battery to chassis and then on to the engine someplace...but where it goes to chassis is usually where the problem is ..

Well van started this morning no probs again and a few times this afternoon 🤷‍♂️

Pretty sure that 15 minutes on a charger and a 3 mile drive home didn't cure a flat battery .

The best thing to do to rule out battery once & for all is the next time it does it. turn off & check the battery voltage with a meter. If good the problem is elsewhere.

Well today I've done all the grp nosecone of toby with restorer then a good polish with autoglym and then 2 coats of wax ....I then removed the old mpk push up vent in the bathroom and fitted the miniheki I bought from tonyidle .I then polished and waxed the entire roof ......I'm knackered now and my arms are killing me lol and I'm off to work in 30 minutes

It's been a cracking sunny day here today
Hopefully it will stay like this for a few days and let me get the 2 sides and the back all polished up and waxed.

Been thinking about my bathroom sink and in hindsight I think I'm going to order the modified one so I have a little more room in there.

Well as if I needed anything else to fix my step has finally given up after those two great clumsy oafs in france broke it ...the rail has now completely snapped🤬🤬

Anyone know if you can buy parts for these as I don't really want to have to buy a complete step

Tam, are you thinking of the modified sink made by Motorhomebumpers in Essex? or by another supplier? I have just sent an enquiring email to Motorhomebumpers as I want to change mine also. It would be better for a manufacturer to tool up to make two at the same time.
Re your step. If you can’t get spares, could you get a rectangular/square tube to fit inside the arm to strengthen it. The break is around the hole for the hinge bolt so the tube could be drilled for this and with further holes either side for bolts (allowing for bolt head to not foul the frame on retracting). Just a thought.
David.

You can get parts, but expensive just like the steps. 😥
Bob.
