Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

Only just caught up Tam but like you we loved Marvao when we visited about 3-4 years ago.
So glad that the aire is in use overnight as we thought it was a stunning place to stop.

Richard

Great pics as usual Tam,thanks.
We’ve never been over that side of Portugal but I think it’s a must in a couple of years time.
Happy travels!

So I'm now just outside the village of bemfieta in the mountains .

Parked up by a wee church overlooking the valley

So when I parked here I noticed this other van parked and it has scottish plates so i figured id perhaps have some Scottish company.

Anyway I was here about 20 minutes and the dogs started barking and this guy pops on a bike introduced himself as Steve....I assumed it was his van despite him being English. But no he cycled over from Hampshire last year he bought a small bit of land in the valley below this church and lives on it in a makeshift shelter the size of a 10x8 shed ....You can see it in these pics

Seems a nice guy but that's seriously roughing it lol ....He was telling me he's just back from a visit home....He cycled from here to Santander and took ferry it took him 6 days to cycle from here ....
Says his brother has a shed about a kilometre up the road.

The van apparently belongs to a Scottish guy called Greg who also lives in a ruined shed here in the valley but no road access so he parks the van here .

So anyway he buggerred off and a girl pulled up in a vw camper .....she's Portuguese but speaks good English....eilsa
Very attractive ? so I've a neighbour for the night.....jade is working her charms....she lives in this full time

It's well worth a visit......quieter ,lots of places to stop , lots of free aires and the locals seem friendlier

This evening's posting - that guy in his shed must really be hardy, between the shed and his bike rides!
It doesn't look the most productive piece of land he's chosen to live on either .
Your parking spot by the church looks very tranquil. I hope you and the dogs have a very pleasant evening. (y) :D

Tam, one of your favourite subjects, French pillocks with no sense of personal space.

We've been parked in ZaZa's in Vilar Formoso since mid afternoon, just in to Portugal, decided to stop here after a long drive.

In pulls said pillock, reverses at an obtuse angle 3 feet from the back of our van, sits there for 10 minutes then does this.

The bloody place is empty apart from 1 other van, & what's the betting the cheapskate scarpers early before they come round for the €5 in the morning

Unfortunately the whole area including trees and properties where wiped out in fires a couple of years back. It'll take a long time to recover. There seem to be a lot of expats living in that area. Property prices are low and that's even before the fires occurred.

Yes you may get close .....but you'll struggle to get French camping car driver close..
In fact Gillette could use that line to sell razors

We have had the company of Oscar (Alb and Elaine) here since Sunday, the are off to Castelo Branco tomorrow, so the space will still be warm.

Look forward to meeting you. We are out early morning, but will be back lunchtime’ish. When we get back, we will pop into the aire to see if you are there. If not, just shout on here and we will come to see you. We are only five minutes from the aire. Not sure what weight you are, but if you are directed via Coja, you will come to a bridge with a three and a half ton limit. We have been over it with 6 ton, no problems.

See you tomorrow.

No worries I probably won't be along there till late afternoon as I plan to walk to the waterfall from here in the morning then a quick visit around the town before i move.

I ignore most of the 3.5 tonne signs I'm only a few hundred kilos over and I'm sure they aren't exact ?

Incidentally do you know a woman lotus Moran? She has land for sale about 1km outside of barril de alva that I'm supposed to be viewing at some point . Didn't realise it was so close before . I think they were living on it in buses but it got burned out a few years back so it's up for sale

Yeah it's a weird bit land he has and technically not meant for habitation only agriculture but he's been living here about 16 months. Couldn't imagine cycling here .....but he looks more trim than me lol.
Looks like he's been down the pit though lol but he did say he uses the hose at the church for a shower ?

He was telling me there's quite a few ex Brits in this village and a few other nationalities , on a Friday night they have a sort of cooking /food night in the village hall where they share food from the different places ....jade would like that ?

I have a new little friend this morning he/she Very cute and friendly .....and brave considering my 2 keep barking at it ...Still I've given it some puppy food which it's demolished and on second helping and a little milk and water..

Get here when you get here. If you are coming to stay on our land it’s better you come in the daylight.

Is it Fraga de Penna waterfall you are walking to as there is parking just down from it, only a few hundred yards to walk. I know you like walking so you may prefer to do that from Benfeita. Benfeita area is well known for the amount of hippies living there. There are all over this area, The Beiras.

Morning Tam, your new little friend is female. Her colour is known as "tortoishell " (probably spelt wrong ), all cats of that colouring are female.
So she is probably about to have kittens / just had kittens or both. Life is tough for females in this world!
