Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

That was another reason that we stopped using that mechanic, We'd take a vehicle in to have a simple job done and get it back 2/3 days later. The guy we use now always finishes the job the same day ... and our vehicles have very few problems now. A much better mechanic all round.

Poor organisation that's for sure. The thing is I put it in first thing Wednesday morning and said I was quite happy for them to keep it a few days as long as it was ready for the weekend. To phone on Friday and say they didn't have time to change the belt is a poor show.

Usual excuses of course. 'Oh one of the guys went home at lunch time' :giggler:

Mine was booked in for today for a full cambelt kit and a full wheels off service I'd have dropped it off 9am and got it back at 5pm. The cambelt isn't a big job on this model it's quoted 2.5 hours. I can't believe they woukd simply say they didn't have time that's ridiculous

Doesn't fill you with faith in the company does it? Their loss I will find someone else to do it. I made it to Aberdeen with the van in one piece so that's handy

Been away from this place for so long I had forgot how bad it smells down near the harbour :giggler:

Re the lead thing.
It is considerate if the dog approaching is on or put onto a lead you should do the same.
You cannot tell what the dogs will think of each other!
I agree that it is a shame that some people won’t/don’t let their dog off but there could be a very good reason for it.

Only been their once, once was enough, looking to get some dinner, asked some lads the reply was " there's a McDonalds down there or a Burger king over there or are yer loaded".

Not a fast food fan then?

If you were down at the beach you weren't far away from good food. The silver darling is supposed to be a top eaterie. Not tried it myself though.

I've parked up at the promenade in Aberdeen a few times never noticed any smell but a nice beach , great waves when windy and there's quite a few places to eat in the range and a few shops too ...so not that bad. There's an old boy lives in his old hymer along that road...been there 2 years that I know of

So back in Portugal yesterday , stopped at Alcoutim for a look around...Nice view across to sanlucar and then on to a little village called pomarào further north on the spain/Portugal border.
Unfortunately the internet here is bad so I can't upload pics ? I'll try later

Ok so here's the pics from yesterday till today , Alcoutim first looking over river to sanlucar , then pomarao, then some dead sheep I spotted just lying in a field , then the way hand pumped water fountain I found near a church, and then a nice lakeside beach at mina de sào domingos.

It's hot hot hot and showing no sign if getting cooler

Pomerao was the terminal of a railway line from Minas de Sao Domingo, built to load sailing boats on the Guadiana with ore for export. It was one of the earliest railways built in Portugal, the remnants of the loading pier are still there, one of our favourite stops.

Yes I was parked next to that

Its a nice little place if a bit wild west , it was a bit creepy having everyone stop and stare as we walked about

Thought Jade wasn’t going to bring the ball back and you might have to retrieve it yourself.

Thanks for the photos.

They struggle to grab the ball in the water and milo has a habit of pushing it further out then he gulps a load of water trying to get it ...think I'm better using sticks in the water they are easier for them to retrieve.
Jade is still not as keen a swimmer as milo but loves paddling

So after a walk round the lake this morning we drove up to serpa....I have to say that road from sao domingos to here is awful it's like corrugation i couldn't do more than 30mph on it but thankfully not many cars.

This town is dead lol....But 37° So maybe just all hiding .

If you are having problems at your age, wait til you get to ours.

Have you gone past Monseraz, lovely aire there, beautiful views, but no facilities. They are at Luz.

There’s a nice aire at Morvao, next to the monestery, be cooler up there. Then another by the barragem, at Povoas, lots of parking down by the dam.

You have to go over or around the mountains, Serra de Estrela to get to us. We are Barril de Alva, in between Arganil at Oliveira do Hospital. Be nice If you can make it here. We will be harvesting the grapes middle to late September to make our red wine, you would be more than welcome to join us in that activity.

It’s going to be hot for the next week and a bit, then thankfully cooling down a bit, we will then be able to get on doing the jobs that need doing, at the moment, only getting a couple of hours a day in.

Enjoy your travelling in the real Portugal.

Tam so you have the offer of a job, but he did not say whether he would pay you;)

So visited beja this morning had a look around the castle and cathedral and then checked out this manmade pond thing in the park .....massive fish in it.

And then we headed north west to the wee village of orjola. As it's beside a lake ....parked up at a picnic spot so the pups could play in the water its so quiet here there's no noise whatsoever bar the odd cockeral.

Will stay here tonight then visit evora tomorrow.

In exchange for free camping and the use of a car and of course the pleasant company, plenty of grape juice, what more could one ask for.
I always have free camping:p
No idea when I'll be there though depends what I see on the way ....so far I've not seen anywhere I'd stay more than one night but plenty of stops and aires around that's for sure

Our type of camping, free. You take your time, if you don’t make it, that’s OK, if you do, we’ll give you a guided tour of our area.
