Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

Absolute nightmare ...I live Spain but they really are lazy barstewards Pardon the language but I'm annoyed and out of ideas

A Spanish guy I'm a motor home next to me couldn't speak much English but he looked on internet and found a place in Almeria called autocaravanna molinos...30 minutes drive so at 12 o'clock I had plenty time to get there before the 2pm time they claimed to close at.

Drive to the locating on Google after having to detour around the 2.8 metre bridge yards away from the given location...I get there and it's all big gates no signs no way of getting in ...and no answer to the phone number the Spanish guy had called and spoke to someone on .

And now the website says closed till 8am Monday.. .my skylight looks like this

And I've a foot square hole In the roof right above my bed with nothing to cover it with

I've also been trying to contact my insurance company and been on hold nearly a hour so I can notify them of the possible claim by landrover man for this scratch on his defender 110

He is saying it's dented too but it has that many other dents on it I'm surprised he can tell

Don't know what I'm gonna do now but it rained last night if it does that again I'm screwed and it's all severely windy

A sheet of polythene or similar gaffered down would help similar thing happened to me luckily I had an old plastic windbreak cut the plastic sheet used a bit of that. You probably can pick them up cheep as chips from souvenirs shops.

Offer landy man a bit of cash.... if he wants too much tell him we’ll go through insurance and you need he’s insurance details too so you can give them to yours and let them settle.... he’ll know that will be a right pain in the arse and could affect his policy....

Or tell him to prove it....:censored:

Hope you get your hole filled soon.

Hard luck Tam -these things always happen on a Friday too (S**s law). Go to a supermarket and try to get a strong cardboard box or sheet of thick cardboard a bit bigger than the hole in your roof, put the cardboard inside a couple of bin bags, then use Gaffa or Gorrilla tape to tape it down but tape solidly over the complete area, so it is much stronger and won't sink into a saucer shape in the middle to catch the water.
A better alternative is a piece of marine ply, stuck in a similar manner.
A couple of years ago I drove from Spain to Scotland with a piece of polystyrene in bin bags taped over a very large hole in the roof.
We stayed dry and I've saved the patch for use in case of future calamities

Oh dear Tam. I hope you can get it sorted soon.

Which is only 1km from the A7 near Vera. Easy parking, and reasonable selection of things in shop. They do repairs too I think.
We got an ACSI book from there in January, and they seemed to be quite efficient. Several expats in there. Hope you get it fixed.

A quick/simple way to stop rain coming in (albeit temporary and only whilst parked up) is to put an umbrella up over the hole and tie/weight the handle down on the inside. It worked for me once in a similar situation when the roof light blew off and it started raining - at least we kept dry until the rain stopped.

Looks like you have all the bits Tam, a bit of superglue and it will be perfect
.
Admit it you only left it open in the wind to give us some entertainment.

Good luck getting it sorted.

All sorted now ...had to drive back up to Vera to a company I found by chance on an ex pats forum....got a mini heki ...€160 all in with a tube of sealant.. 30 minutes later I had it fitted so while expensive at least it's done.

Bloody van has to cost me money every month lol

Still not got through to the insurance company ...I think the landrover guy was maybe at it bit who knows

Scratch would probably t cut out bit I was more concerned with the skylight

Insurance can deal with it if he puts a claim In but I'll be intersted to see how it pans out as I'm not at fault...surely that's an act of God or something.

I wasn't even near the van when it happened.

Glad you've got it sorted Tam, you don't strike me as the sort of person who likes having their Moho held together with Gaffa tape. :D2

Stick a brolly up through the hole ,,open it and then pull it down and secure it.Will keep you dry overnight.BUSBY.

We’ve got mini heki’s in bathroom and kitchen area and I made some stops for them because when they are open in the position the don’t lock.

Must admit since a friend of mine left his large Heiki open and went out..,only for a heavy thunder storm soaked his bed ..I always close mine when not at the van.BUSBY.

Had a Hobby caravan that had a big sliding one over the front bed, the kids woke up totally drenched, we thought it was quite funny.

Always close all our rooflights when we go out otherwise a gust of wind can set off the alarm.

That's one of the good points on the Frankia I had it automatically closed if it started to rain....bit also closed when I was cooking which was a pain.

The big skylights on the hymer is good as they open in a way that still covers the hole so the rain doesn't get in.

And left you stuck on the roof I seem to remember.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Yeah it did that too

To be honest the damm thing was a pain in the bum ...you had to keep your finger pressed on the button and it took forever to close.

And like I said any hint of moisture it closed automatically ...so when cooking it kept closing
