Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

Thanks for sharing your feelings, it gives us more insight to how you are feeling. None of us know what is around the corner. We retired early as Nigel’s brother passed away at 61 and Nigel was 60 at the time. We had a thriving business and needed to employ staff in order to continue, did we need that hassle and stress, no. So we decided to sell up and use the money to retire until our pensions were due and enjoy our lives while we could. We have travelled extensively over our lives and continued to do so until we found ourselves a nice little plot of land in Central Portugal, originally to park our motorhome on over the winter months, however we now do not feel the need to travel, we have found happiness here. How long that will last, no one knows, but at this moment in time this is where our hearts are.

Throughout our lives we always went along a road with a Y junction at the end. If the left fork didn’t work out, we would always have an alternative down the right fork. You never know where life takes you, but there is always an alternative. But you don’t know what that alternative is until you get there. There is never a dead end. Keep on that road, life will work itself out, only you don’t know what it will be til you get there.

I always used to worry in case we broke down, thinking OMG we will be stuck on the side of the road, I used to lose sleep for a few days before we set off. Stupid I know, but now, I think, well you won’t be there long, something always works out, maybe the pills I am taking makes me think differently now. :D

So Tam, something will happen along that road, you just gotta be patient until it turns up.:):)

This thread has took on a rather philosophical point of view recently. I'd like to add to it.

A great philosopher (not really, it was my mate Scotty) once said 'The less you give a shit, the happier you are'

That's the mantra I live by.... that and the great Jay-Z's quote of 'Fear not when, fear not why, fear not much while we're alive'

Well I moved to torino yesterday ( Turin to the unwashed :p )
And i stayed here last night after using the official aire for the services which was frankly disgusting...crap all over the ground and toilet paper etc...And abandoned wrecked motorhomes in the parking areas aswell as itinerants with lots of rubbish around. So this parking spot was more favourable.

And then I walked in to the city this morning , torino is supposedly famous for architecture but I have to say I wasn't impressed. Not a city I would return to.

This is the best I could find to take pics of

I think you might be suffering from what I labelled "Iceland-itis"

So many seem to think Iceland is amazing... I found it ok, but not wow!
I put it down to having been lucky enough to see loads of stuff around the world so whilst Iceland is scenic, it doesn't have the best of any particular feature such as a Geyser, or a Waterfall or a Glacier or a Hot Spring...

So I wonder if you're suffering the same... you've been & seen some amazing places...

I wonder that too. I just think it lacks any character.

Also where they filmed the Itaian Job, got to be a must for Petrol heads.
Like @Langtoftlad says it's now a shopping mall. I saw it on Google yesterday and read the reviews on TripAdvisor etc ...most petrol heads were dissapointed with it.
To be honest I think the best view of it would be from somewhere else or if you had a drone for Ariel pics

I was thinking more of all the buildings and arcades they drove through in the town they are all still there. How about watching the film them wander about and identify all of them, that will keep you busy.

That was a difference between Spain and Italy, Spain made a big deal out of places used for filming etc..but there's nothing in turin to even mention the fact that was filmed here.

But I suppose it was a long time ago and the city looks sod all like it did back then

It wont have changed that much , I remember first time I drove to Italy back in about 1970 , went via the Brenner , I knew I had come into Italy from Austria as the armco was all rusty , and first impression was that the whole place was falling to bits !!

They call it shabby chic these days:) That is one memorable thing about Italy that you always remember.

A few pics from yesterday ....I headed west from torino planning to enter France in the alps ...I'd spotted a place on park4night by a lake nesstled in the mountains so I headed for there. Sadly the road is barricaded just after you cross In to France...a sign about 20 miles before that would have been helpful but I've discovered the french and Italians don't seem to think about that so I have to go back and south to get out of Italy.

Here's the pics I took and a couple of screenshots of where I was heading and where I ended up staying the night near this Abbey...which was unfortunately closed.

I'm going to keep a hold of that and if I'm back in Portugal and one of those guardia police folk tell me I can't park I'll say what happened to brelcome?

If you had parked Toby next to that house for too long you might have got a funky free paint job

I take it you are heacding back to Spain?
Yeah I think so ...And will do some more of Portugal too I think but slower and spending more time in one place.
Ultimately I'm still thinking about relocating to Spain permanently and therefore I'd like to find places I'd perhaos want to live and see what work opportunities there may be.
Possibly Portugal.

Glad to see you're on the move again. We travelled down the Atlantic coast of Portugal several years ago.....simply stunning. We also liked most of the inland towns we visited, Tomar, Evora etc so much more than the Algarve. X

Glorious pictures and countryside Tam, the dogs obviously enjoy it too.
I'm glad you've come to some sort of decision, I think you'll be easier in your mind now (although of course that doesn't necessarily mean your ultimate goal will be any easier to achieve )lol.
"A bend in the road is not the end of the road unless you fail to make the turn "
Plenty of good times ahead Tam!

Sorry I'm being thick Tam, geography was never my strong point - what country is Susa in? and what is /was the circular "Bull ring" for?
Ancient buildings may be your thing, but beautiful scenery certainly floats my boat. Once again, thanks Tam.
