Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

I miss the coast the sun and a warm beach

And food I can eat

So no use saying German food is great. Simple slices of good meat served with chips, sort of thing. Not good on coasts but they have some good lakes and rivers.

I love camping on the Rhein and watching the barges going past. Rows and rows of new cars. A million litres of LPG. Hundreds of rich tourists getting a worst view of the Rhein than a MH in their 100 metre long palaces.

Then again there are the alpine pastures. Nothing beats total silence broken by a cow bell.

Alpine pastures are available in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

Do you know that the very top of Italy speaks German ? No I thought not, it came as a shock to me. Do you know how many millionj tonnes of apples are picked in Stelvio ? No. Neither do I but it is a lot.

If youre off towards Croatia, there is a lovely village (think you can stop outside the gendarmes) called Aiello del Fruilli which is famous for the amount of sundials they have all over the place. (Over 100 and some hard to spot)
We were lucky (and thick) enough to be shown around by the inventor of some of them as we stood outside his house trying to work out how the bloody thing worked and were actually looking at it backwards !

Its between Venice and Trieste and worthy of a look (IMHO)

This is the one that confused us ,,,,,, but we were looking at the other side !

Well I eat steak blue so that's cool

Although I haven't eaten out since Spain

I find in most of Europe

Rare means raw

Medium means outside cooked but still raw inside

Well done means outside burnt but inside still raw !

Ours is full of 1 and 2 and 5 cents, with a fair smattering of 10s and 20s.

Keep taking a small bagful out with us to drop in collecting tins when we see them

I've actually no desire to visit Madrid though I just keep confusing the names
Aah Tam, that's the thing about a Freudian slip - you have no CONSCIOUS desire to go to Madrid - but maybe your subconscious has other plans for you. ;)

Brilliant, I’m hungry alreadys , was that for 2 ? And how much did it cost in pounds

There’s around 8.5 kuna to the pound and I think this diner was around 120kuna with beer and wine..

So, around £15...

Fish is good out there but it’s mostly meat which was fine for me... the type of mince meat sausage called ćevapčići was nice but on the whole we found the food pretty bland....

Never say never Madrid and Milan are both beautiful cities.
Aye the cathedral here is supposed to be outstanding but the rain hasn t stopped all day and similar forecast for tomorrow so I don't think I'll see it.

Madrid just looks to big for me

Well I quite enjoyed Croatian food, especially the fresh fish.
Some of the menus are difficult to comprehend but the waiters all speak English and are happy to translate and recommend dishes.
The cost of living is also considerably cheaper than Italy which was very welcome.
The warm clear waters of the Adriatic were a pleasure which is why I`m going back this year.
Searchforsites threw up very few cheap aire type options so we mostly did ACSI sites which were reasonable in June. Peak season sees them very much more expensive.
The ones that appear on park4night may be inland dusty carparks, not where you want to be in a country with such a beautiful coastline.
I intend to look into the park4night aire sites myself as it would be useful to have a few cheap options enroute, not had time to do it yet though.

Seems to be literally hundreds of spots on park4night all the way up the coast of Croatia...which is why it's concerning when folk keep telling me wildcamping isn't tolerated...

Anyway I've still not decided...But the rain here is seriously nipping my head now it's not let up all day for more than 10 mins and I'm struggling to hear prison break

I’d have thought that would have made you feel at home

When I was out there I specifically asked many people about wildcamping and they all said it was forbidden, however it was allowed if you become tired and needed to pull over and rest in the vehicle...:D2

There are many cheap camperstops and there are many out of the way places, even along the coast to be able to keep out of the way... I never saw any police except in the city’s....

The locals seem to drive in the middle of the road so beware going around corners in the sticks as they will swerve in at the last moment ...

Just thinking, is this your last trip or are you planning on travelling for the foreseeable future. If not your last, turn those wheels and head back to somewhere else. Did you do Galicia on your last trip?

Plan this trip for next year, meet a like minded solo from FUN who might be a bit apprehensive on doing that trip alone and travel together. You have the confidence to be able to help someone who doesn’t.

Go back this trip and enjoy what you like, you are only here once, you have the time in your favour, not like us oldies, so spend it wisely.

If you happen to be over our way, Central Portugal, you are more than welcome to spend some time with us on our little bit of land. You could even look after it for us while we are back in the UK, we are leaving 15th May and coming back 5th June. Plenty of English speaking peeps here, even have a car for you to get about in. Plenty of places to walk. The property is fenced so dogs can roam free. We aren’t looking for someone to landsit, but it’s a place you could chill for a while. Just a suggestion.

Enjoy yourself whatever you decide to do.

Is that cos your Mum has discovered the damage to the kitchen cupboard door? :D2
It wasn't the cupboard door lol ...it was the mahogany 15 pane door that my over fussy mother spent absolutely days sanding staining and wire wool finishing years ago lol. I can only say I'm so grateful for her failing eyesight and lack of ability to bend down these days because if she spots my rather poor touch in I will never hear the end of it.

Especially now that she's developed this favouritism towards Milo lol poor jade doesn't get a look in with her.

Wow, that's a fantastic offer.

When I decided to do this trip it was because I have the mindset that life is short and I may not get the chance again ...
There's many reasons I think like that , my dad passing away at 60 having never reached his retirement etc , my mum taking I'll last year and just generally being someone who has kind of always lived in the moment and haven't planned for my future.

I'm a natural born worrier and someone who was always scared to take chances but the last few years I have been trying to break free of that ....I'm getting better but I still worry and over think a lot of stuff.

People on here only see what I allow them to see....Because I have a deep installed fear of not being accepted or fitting in.

I don't know if I'll have the chance or the means to travel forever .....But I also don't know that I won't ...who does I suppose.

It annoys me because I've never been one who enjoyed being single and since my teens till 3 years ago this is the longest I've been single.
It's also around the time I decided I was no longer going to rely on being in a relationship to make me happy.....But it's easier said than done.
And mostly because of me.

I'd never taken a holiday myself until 3 years ago.

Sorry for the long winded answer but short one is I don't know if it would be my last trip or not .....I hope it isn't but right now I'm unemployed and I don't have a pension so who knows. ....I'm aware I can't do this forever. I need to return to work at somepoint as I don't have enough savings to last.

I still have the dream of living and working abroad somewhere but I don't know if that will ever be possible. ....language being a big issue.

I'll not cure the being single situation while on the road I've come to realise that ....But last year I at least seemed to have more human contact. Mostly platonic but I did have the occasional romantic encounter which was what it was but sort of scratched an itch at the time.

I had hoped that id become more content and happy with my own company but it's been the opposite really .....I miss having connection and being part of something.
When I dwell on that I reminisce and that doesn't help me.

I loved spain last year and barely scratched the surface and while I didn't like Portugal as much there were some places I really liked.

I'd be lying though if I didn't have this wish to actually meet someone while I was travelling...But maybe that only happens in movies lol.

But anyway that's a very kind offer ...And if I do head back to spain and portugal I may well pop past to say hello.

Anyone else just packed up to venture to Portugal. (y);) A very kind offer though. Very thoughtful.

Best post I have ever witnessed. EVER. On any forum anywhere in the world. If Carlsberg did posts it would be this one. Think of changing your name to Carlsberg. Absolutely excellent.

PS are you away next year around the same time ?(y)
