Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

Wtf ? I get 6 litres here for 3,50€
Yep and trying to get Semiskimed long life isn't easy lol ...

But that was in carreforre...Lidl was a little better €1.30

I think once you get used to Spain being so cheap it's a shock to the system.
I eat a lot of fruit and veg too and I loved the quality and price of it in Spain.... but it isn't as good here ....haven't found a crispy apple or a sweet orange yet lol

@Northernraider- I have one of these tucked away in the van. Various online-normally used on a paddle board for keeping things dry hence the name 'Dry Bag', add a bit of washing powder and water- swish away and empty water (You can literally see the dirty water drain away). Not saying ya jeans and hoodies/fleece would benefit. But good for smalls. (y) However, the three days of rain forecast may not aid you
Hope you continue to enjoy your trip. Regards.

I've not so much bother washing things in the van it's drying them that's a hassle

Or I might just be a tightarsed Scotsman lol
Well I'm a tight arsed Englishman, I've never found Italy that expensive apart from sites on the lakes in high season when the kids were with us. Dearer than Spain yes but a lot cheaper than the UK.
Pasta is mainly a starter in Italy followed by a meat or fish dish that is usually a lot smaller than the first course & when you order your main don't forget the veg or you will get a plate with just meat or fish on it.
Never noticed any problems with the bread in Italy but I like Italian bread as for oranges they are crap everywhere apart from Spain & Portugal no fruit is as good outside the country they grow it.
You are a bit down at the moment so maybe you are getting picky with things that wouldn't normally bother you.

Skip Italy and go round the top into Slovenia and on to Croatia.... if you feel you missed something then go on the way back....

Aye that's quite possible I'm thinking that myself.
The rain thundering on the roof at the minute isn't helping I must say.

That's why I've stayed put the last few days till I decide what I want to do rather than make a rash decision. I'm still in the same spot I'll stay here again tonight and see how things are tomorrow

Yeah I was thinking about that ....my worry is what if I don't find Croatia any better lol
What was the food and that like there?

Yep - first time in Italy, at my hotel, I ordered a steak - and got literally a lump of meat on an otherwise empty plate! You would have thought they could have said something (other than "What stupid foreigner wants, stupid foreigner gets!)

Sh*t unless you like the contents of a salt mine with you dinner. Steer well clear of burgers of all types, tried some out they were yuck hardly any meat in them. Bought some in a supermarket had to throw them away.
Did have a couple if nice meals old but gave up eating out due to the high salt levels.

Hmmm none of this is helping

I miss the coast the sun and a warm beach

And food I can eat

Go south Tam, further south you go the more chilli in the food and you won't have to worry about what it tastes like :)

I recommend going back to Spain We have left it owing to the rain and flooding and are currently in the South of France actually at Alet le bains near the Pyrenees
Spain seems to be getting back to normal now though
Got lpg today at Esperaza intermarche very expensive 89.9c a litre not looking forward to having to buy diesel in France

Yep France and Italy diesel is around 20-30 cents a litre dearer ....which adds up on a €80-90 tank full

That said I did get lpg at €0.59 last week which is the cheapest I've paid since the UK

You have solved your own conundrum!! :sneaky:

Head for Spain tomorrow!!:)

You know it makes sense Tam! (y)

Like you we found Italian supermarkets very pricey, especially for good quality meat... But I hate to tell you that the ones in Croatia were cheaper........but the quality was dreadful! Even the dogs turned their noses up at a couple of the steaks we bought! We had several good meals out but these tended to be in italian style restaurants. There is no doubt that France and Italy are never cheap options.

That important answer to what's a pepperoni pizza in italia

And although weather's crap and well it's not that interesting this is the big park I've been parked next to ....the dogs like it.

But if raining tomorrow I'm moving and that means I'll sadly not see Madrid centre as I'm not walking 6km there or cycling in the pouring rain ...I may as well drive somewhere new.

Oh how I long for a mercadona .....caramel latte and melon mmmm

I did warn you about the driving, didn't I?

I didn't expect you to be so discouraged about the country though.

I'm with you about Spain. If you make the decision, a few days driving will have you back in your comfort zone.

Croatian food doesn't sound too bad
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croatian_cuisine

Croatian meat-based dishes include:
  • Miješano meso or Ražnjići (skewers)
  • Zagrebački odrezak (Veal steaks stuffed with ham and cheese, breaded and fried)
  • Šnicle (schnitzel) – breaded veal or chicken cutlets.
  • Meso z tiblice – pork ham from Međimurje County.
  • Janjetina – roasted lamb garnished with Mediterranean herbs

Yeah, come to Crete. We're here now with our motorhome and given that we used to live here permenantly we are pretty clued up about the island..................... however, ferry prices are not cheap - in fact they're blooming expensive! You could cut one ferry out by driving through Albania. We did this 4 years ago and it was very pleasant and no problems.

Lucky you I have been to Crete a few times flying but its on my list of places to visit in motorhome
