Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Looks like your heading over to Glendalough Tam? En route you could stop off at Poulaphouca Reservoir for a bit of lunch.... now there's one for you to pronounce.... lol
Aye I'm heading that way although now someone has told me about the rock of dunamase so I might pop there first .

Poulaphouca? ...hmm pull a fecka?

You need to get into the 'de rigueur' kit for those with 'changing' waistlines ... :giggle:

Get yourself some good quality shoe wax and give them a really good coating, it'll get into all the joints, seams etc and ensure they won't leak next time - do it regularly though to keep the waterproofing.
Jeeso they arnae braw are they . Think I'm still 20 years too young for those lol .

They are so stiff and heavy actually l don’t wear boots they don’t suit my feet and restrict movement around the ankles that cause pain so l go for Walking Shoes which are just as robust but more comfortable.
To be honest l didn’t even think Leather Boots would be considered anymore over modern products.
The other materials don't half get messy if you sink to the ankles in mud though which I often do

Lenny for goodness sake it’s 2022 if l had read this 70 years ago when nothing else was available other than Wellies l might have believed it but we have come a long way since then. Leather Walking Boots 😂😂😂😂😂

Good quality modern leather boots aren't that stiff.
Gortex and equivalent lined boots are fine for the first few months then the lining breaks down and they leak.
I have suede/fabric ones for summer & leather for winter & my old Merell's are suede pigskin.

Aye that's what I meant lol but was trying not to offend the 2 ladies on the site lol .

My boots are schwalbe 21 by 1&3/8ths…. Usually last nearly a year, but I do a few miles in them…😎

Dubarry boots are great Tam I've a few pair and they've never let a drop of water in yet and been worn everywhere around Ireland, there might be a factory shop near you somewhere
Ps.... they're an Irish company so know all about keeping waterproof lol
Dubarry, great I'm sure, but he is a FLT

I've found the unbranded walking boots on Amazon pretty good for a more modest budget (y)

We had a walk the other day 27°c sweating like a pig, Janie spotted a path we hadn't done 😉 and would not do again ↗️↘️ over the mountain to come out a kilometre up the road. 🙄
She said at least we will cool down in the tunnel, 🤔 we did it was flooded. 😁
My boots are gor-tex fabric and came from decathlon and I had dry feet. 😎

I've bought a pair of North face chilkat 3

Returns unworn bar trying on so heavily discounted.

Lenny HB has kindly let me get them posted to him so I can pick them up from him next Friday when I pop in on route to Newhaven.

Hopefully they should last more than 6 feckin months

Now I'm built like Tam (in the "before" pictures!). I never wear anything other than boots, I hate not having ankle support. I possess one pair of smart shoes which are pretty much never worn!

I'm hard on boots too. For general wear I like Mephisto, a french brand - pricey but they last, there's a mail order place called Footwear4You that often has clearance deals at £100 or so. They also do a factory refurb service - you send them back and they do a full refurb on them, new soles the lot, they do a good job as well.

Only thing with Mephisto is they do have air cushion pockets in the soles, if they pop then they can suck water in as you walk down a wet road. Your feet stay dry but the sound is a bit odd!

Blimey, they look like a boot & half.
Aye they look good but unfortunately the idiot has just cancelled my bid because I asked him to ship them to another address , I'll be reporting him to ebay for that move as I believe it's just an excuse

But back to the drawing board lol

I thought if paying by PayPal they recommend you only ship to the PayPal address.
I can try buying them if you like but he might think it's a scam as it will be the address you wanted them shipped to. You could ask him first.

For future ref if you buy from Cotswold Outdoor & open an account they give a two year unlimited warranty. I took an expensive pair of walking sandles back that were 23 months old just a bit of stitching coming undone. Gave me a new pair without question.
SIL is a mountain leader he is always taking boots back to them.

Aye according to ebay that's the problem , they suggested contacting him and asking him to relist and I can temporarily change address buy the idiot has blocked me so he's obviously a pillock .

I'll just sort something else out

I sell a lot of stuff on Ebay. I am happy to post to a different address if the buyer contacts me to ask if I can send to another address. I can't see what the problem was to be honest, just a bit of a prat seller.

Aye I thought so but apparently ebay says seller not covered if they don't send to verified address.

But the seller is a muppet. He could have just said that instead of cancelling my bid , pretty sure its because he hoped for more than my £50 bid as they are over £170 retail price

yep, more than likely. I have never had a problem in over 15 years sending to the odd non-verified address.

It not matter there's a decathlon in Dublin and looking online they have a large selection. I'll just go in there for a look in a few days . At least I can try them on then and might find some waterproof trousers tae.
If you buy in Decathlon and wreck them at your normal rate maybe able to get them replaced in Spain.

l can confirm from my experience that this is possible, we bought two electric folding bikes from Decathlon in Spain on the basis of no matter where we were if we had a problem we could go to any Decathlon store anywhere and get it sorted, we had a problem with a Battery failure and got it sorted in the U.K. no problem.

I did wonder that

It's a shame I never knew that as I bought a pair in decathlon Spain in 2019 that lasted maybe 6 or 8 months . Then a pair of Merrel in Greece in 2020 that never made it to 6 months lol .

If I'd known you could go to any decathlon I'd have returned them lol . I'm pretty sure they are meant to last longer. It's usually the inside that gives up or the join between upper and sole.

On average a walking shoe will last 800 Km.
If on average you are walking over 10 k a day, that’s 80 days!
I buy oboz walking trainers which wear down on the sole , outside heel ,as we walk a lot.
will use the old ones around our site.
It still is 2 pairs a year, or more depending where we have been.

Another vote for Oboz here, hard wearing and comfortable straight out of the box

Aye I suppose if you think of it that way
