Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Old guy I used to know reckoned that, when changing his kids nappies, he would tightly grip one corner of the terry towelling nappy in his fist, lightly grip the opposite corner between thumb and first finger and "flick" the contents into the back of his coal fire ! I wonder how many goes it took him to perfect his technique ? :X3:

A very misty morning this morning , but made for some great photos , we had a walk along the barrow way , very wet and slippy underfoot though

In other news I'm having no bloody luck with footwear on this trip either , I bought 2 new pairs of walking boots and 2 pairs of trainers before I left home , both walking boots claim to be waterproof but one pair the most expensive ones are suede so I've been reluctant to wear them much , the others have been worn daily in all weathers, so much so the soles are wearing down fast , they did stay waterproof till the last week or so but are now letting in which is a pain ,they got soaked this morning so I've had to put my other pair on , and now this has happened 😡 I've literally worn these 4 or 5 times for a few hours at a time

I paid £60 for these which I know isn't a great deal of money but really annoys me . I'm gonna have to try repairing them with black mastic and see if it bonds them back together lol.

I seem to go through footwear like there's no tomorrow...lucky if I get 6 months out a pair but considering these are less than 3 months old and worn 6 times max it's beyond a joke

Can't you get in touch with where you bought them from and send them a picture? There's no way they should do that - it looks like they haven't been glued and pressed correctly.

Yes good idea. We had to do an emergency repair on a hike in France once. I managed to get an exchange when we got back to the uk.

It was an ebay purchase so I don't hold put much hope. But with my other boots leaking and my trainers being more intended for use in Spain I need to try and repair these for now . Its bloody annoying.

For the amount of walking you are doing Tam, you should invest in a good pair of hiking boots. Yes it’s going to cost but you will never look back. Get them fitted properly in a good outdoor shop and you won’t regret it. (y)
Aye I know, I reckon I'll buy a decent pair when in Spain, probably a bit better priced than here. And I'll be there in less than a fortnight. I also need to invest in some outdoor walking trousers etc.
With the weight loss I've dropped 2 sizes in trousers and if I get to my desired weight I'll drop another so I was being tight and trying not to waste money on stuff that won't fit later

Dubarry boots are great Tam I've a few pair and they've never let a drop of water in yet and been worn everywhere around Ireland, there might be a factory shop near you somewhere
Ps.... they're an Irish company so know all about keeping waterproof lol

You will probably find boots dearer in Spain than the UK, I like Pikolinos shoes, made in Spain cheaper to buy in the UK.

If you want waterproof boots you need to buy leather ones and regularly dub them.

The other pair are leather but similar thing , leaking where the sole joins , they are tresspass branded and also bought new in September but they were really cheap , only £25 or something.

but I'm not sure I'll have time or be anywhere in the UK to get some . I get in to holyhead just after midnight next Thursday then I'm on boat from Newhaven at 10am Saturday. I'll see how it goes.

I've glued up these ones hopefully it holds till I sort something out .

I got Salomon and Meindl walking boots both around 150 pound a pair, but both more then 10 years old, it really is worth it, spend some money on decent kit👍, the Salomons are the most comfy ones ever👍

I never have had a lot of luck with boots, no matter what I pay, all split across the right sole. I put it down to small feet, and how I hold them when driving. Just buy cheap and cheerful now. Gluing does not help the cross way split.
John fixed his trainer, soles had gone like your boots, with gorilla glue.

I've sent you a pm as I just had a thought

Yeah I bought a pair of merrell boots in Greece 2 years ago and they lasted only a few months too , not sure how I'm so hard on footwear , I blamed my weight before but I've lost a fair bit now and it's not like I've been abusing them , purely walking.

To be honest I prefer leather ones myself as easier to clean but it's a minefield out there lol

You need to get into the 'de rigueur' kit for those with 'changing' waistlines ... :giggle:

Get yourself some good quality shoe wax and give them a really good coating, it'll get into all the joints, seams etc and ensure they won't leak next time - do it regularly though to keep the waterproofing.

They are so stiff and heavy actually l don’t wear boots they don’t suit my feet and restrict movement around the ankles that cause pain so l go for Walking Shoes which are just as robust but more comfortable.
To be honest l didn’t even think Leather Boots would be considered anymore over modern products.
