Tam n pups winter trip 2022

I think you can get a gps tracker for a dog.
It might be worth investigating.
Yeah I nearly bought one before but she's been pretty good most of the time so I didn't. But I'm thinking I'm going to have to

We've moved now to a Riverside parkup in the town of listowel , just been out giving a farmer a jump start in his old Toyota, had a right good blether with him. He lost a hand in a bailer ( ouch ) but amazingly still wears a wrist watch ...what a riveting conversation lol .

Nice auld fella , wanted a look round the camper. Gave me 10 eggs when he left lol .

He's been raving on about the road from tralee to dingle and insisting I go to Brandon head. His brother worked in Edinburgh for a lotta years he says.

Anyway our lunch stop today was at this auld castle ..carrigafoyle

And then we went to.the beautiful beach at ballybunion , they have his and hers beaches lol ....women's beach which is this side of the castle ruin and mens beach which is the other side ....where ela decided to get lost ...it runs the length of the golfcourse and is at least 2 miles long

Ladies stopping traffic for Ela
Sausages being given for the dogs
Eggs donated by a farmer

Signs of the warmth & friendliness the Irish are famed for?
Aye they've been better today , when the farmer bloke knocked on the van I did think oh here we go another nutter but his battery was flat so just wanting a jump start .

See Tam, get a bit away from the tourist bits and you might find more tolerant people.
cracking pics as ever, but must agree with your thoughts on dogs in Ireland, a few different people have said much along the same lines.

I’ve got an Apple Airtag on Cassie’s collar (other makes undoubtedly available) which tracks her as an ‘item’. I don’t get to see where she’s been as you do, in theory, with a tracker. However I can see on my phone map exactly where she is at any given moment. Well worth £29. I think they’ve been mentioned on here before.

Don't they rely on the tag being in range of your and/or other iPhone users... might be an issue in remote locations especially those Tam loves.

It's amusing when one of those tags have been put in lost luggage and the owners tell the airline where their bag is, when the airline hasn't a clue.

I’ve got a tractive tracker for Yoshi, just in case. His recall his hit and miss so he’s on an extending lead or long line mostly. The tractive tracker is really good imo, if anyone wants a discount code for it drop me a pm (y)

Ballybunion!
Thanks to Ela’s antics you’ll never forget Ballybunion, Tam.
I’ll never forget Ballybunion for a different reason. When we stayed there we challenged each other to come up with similar place names on a podiatric theme.
We started with Ballyshoe and ended with Ballyveruca.
Oh how we laughed … but I guess you had to be there!

Yes, they do, but your own phone has quite a good range. Definitely useful when you’ve lost sight of the dog and they couldn’t have got too far away. Even in woods (where my Tractive tracker just wouldn’t work) you get an idea of basic direction.

Why doesn’t your tractive tracker work in woods? Ours always has.

The highlight of my day was getting my ear licked by this very friendly horse , I do love horses I wish I had somewhere to keep one or 10View attachment 679967

All this walking! Poor little Milo will be down to his armpits soon 😁! All your Irish pictures have been amazing Tam, the scenery has been glorious and the colours so vivid.
It maybe due to the weather or the fact that the last few pics are cliffs, rocks and coastal but no longer so bright and glorious. I hope the last part of your Irish adventure will not be spoiled by even more bad weather and the onset of winter.

Second the idea of the whistle. We have a Springer spaniel & I can’t shout as loud as my husband, so a whistle has really helped. She always comes back, ever since the time we cooked & deboned a whole chicken & gave it her when she came back to the whistle! 😂😂
Also a vote for a whistle Tam, I use a "sheep dog" whistle for my lot as the sound will carry a long way and is also more 'unique' than the average whistle. A problem with calling/whistling whilst searching the "lost" dog can get bewildeted as to which point to head for if you are whistling and moving.
It is brilliant that she actually had the brains to return to the van. Despite the stress of her being "lost" she definitelyq earns a gold star and mega treats for returning to the van. Also Imo good that she wouldn't allow herself to be caught by strangers.
Two of my three dogs would go to anyone who spoke nicely to them so getting separated from them is a real worry, my red merle collie is exceptionally pretty, and overly friendly and therefore very stealable.

Yes I agree I was so wound up she was in for a good ear bashing when I found her but I was so surprised and relieved that she had went back to the van she got off with it lol.

I also think it's good in a way that she doesn't let folk get hold of her , possibly something she's learned by me taking her away from Greece that she now thinks if someone gets her they will take her away. I think she is also very likely to get stolen, I get remarks about her daily and people asking what breed etc she is as she's a very good looking dog , she gets more attention from strangers than the other 2 nowadays . I think it's the eyebrows lol

He's always eager to go , I'm always impressed just how energetic wee milo is and thankfully he's never had anymore of those funny turns he had back in the summer. He charges about like a nutter on a beach etc

Always use a whistle when she buggers off too far. It’s not too late to train yours to it. I just use two short peeps and back she comes…..expecting treats of course. Trouble is she’s now learned that if she wanders off and lingers long enough when I call her, she will then wait for the whistle and then get a treat. So…..now she doesn’t get treats every time.

I really don’t know, it was very disappointing as they cost a fair bit. I tried all ideas at the time. I finally gave up on it when they auto renewed the subscription, about £45 (they did refund it). I know Tam definitely wouldn’t like that! Cassie rarely disappears from sight, the airtag gives me confidence that i’m looking in the right direction.

You didn't travel to far today Tam, unless you stopped in Tralee for a Rose 😉 lol
Yeah it's been a very wet day today so we never moved bar our doggy walk till about 3pm ...then we drove to just outside tralee. If drier tomorrow we will walk in to town for a look around.

Not much to photograph in listowel , nice enough town just nothing worth taking pics of really . So this is it.

Now a bit of background here , my musical taste and knowledge of different songs and genres comes from various influences when I was growing up , my mum loved rock n roll 50s,60s etc , my dad well he loved country ,western , crooners , jazz , soul etc , my older sister 6 years older she liked chart music, pop etc , my brother 7 years old loved heavy metal , thrash , rock and trance ...so I listened to all this stuff constantly, mum had music on doing housework , dad everytime in the car etc , shared a bedroom with my brother and my sister babysat me a lot ...by the time I hit my teens I had a very wild taste .

So obviously a lot of song lyrics etc stick In your mind and during this trip in Ireland I've visited loads of places that were mentioned in dad's songs in particular , he had loads of country albums including Foster and Allen lol ...and they sang this song about tralee

Boy did they exagerate 🤣🤣🤣 there's nae blue sea or green feckin mountains and they left out the part about the wind and rain.

The rose of tralee is a bloody hotel and a beauty pageant
