Tam n pups winter trip 2022

I hate it when people don’t take responsibility, they know full well that they have caused this and that they didn’t test the vehicle properly before handing it back to you, they should own up to that and get this sorted free of charge.
Yep I agree . But it happens a lot.

Same thing happened on the hymer when I had timing belt done and then it snapped 10 miles from the tunnel . Has to get recovered back. But of course it wasn't the garages fault.

Never is 😒

Just had the boss of the garage on the phone , he had left for the day yesterday when I went to pick camper up. He's back in this morning and he's not happy. He's had a look at the van and his opinion is that it's the hose and not the caliper. He says they had it clamped and tied up to the chassis so they could move the van off the ramp and he thinks the clamps have damaged the hose. Which is pretty much what I thought

So he's going to try replacing the hose first before changing the caliper

He says he can push the pistons back on caliper no problem which wouldn't happen if it was seized. They're waiting for me to take parts up when they come in from parts factor's.

Will see how it goes

Mechanics moan about everything being electrics these days but can't get the basics right.

It's annoying because had I owned a 65mm socket a large pole and a flat level surface to have the van jacked up on I'd have replaced the shoes and bearing myself . But I didn't so i opted for what I thought was the easy and best option.

Not so bad when you damage your own stuff but annoying when someone else does it

Sound like the garage boss is being better than his mechanics and he’s accepting it’s their fault. But I suppose you will still miss the mot, would this garage do an mot

Aye the boss is actually fixing it himself as we speak with my assistance. The mechanic that was doing it is off today. We replaced the hose and a connecting pipe that broke while replacing it and it seems all good . Nowt wrong with caliper.

So just putting wheels on now will give it a quick test drive and hopefully the mot station will do retest if I get it there before 3pm .

Fingers crossed.

Just back at the mot station now . Drove fine on the way here and brakes all good , noticeable difference from yesterday. So hopefully it will pass now.

Left my car at the garage so will pick that up later and will return the caliper for a refund.

The boss guy Ross is a really nice guy , I thought that last year when they did the clutch and cambelt. Its a shame that his mechanics let him down a bit. He couldn't be more helpful himself and will do his best to sort it out. He had the same thoughts as me that it's been the hose being clamped that's caused the issue. He offered to pay for the hose but to be honest it was a bit rusty and old anyway so for the sake of £15 I said it was OK. I'm just relieved it didn't need the caliper.

I will probably have to change the rear pads now though as you could see the discolouration in them from being roasted. I planned to change front ones too as I think both sets are the originals and there's cracks in them.

Fortunately on this van both front and rear are the same pads and they're about £22 a set for mintex ones.

Your relationship with the, as yet unnamed MH, (although I am sure you have tried out a selection 😳) is a bit like the weather at the moment, rain and dark skies and next moment blue skies and the sun is shining 😀
I'd called it "moby" but I'm thinking money pit might be better suited

You only paid £10k for it ! I bet you could sell it for £25 k once electrics done.
Do you want me to get my violin out ?
Lol I think £25k would be very ambitious.

£15k possibly , maybe a bit more once the paintwork has been sorted etc.

I didn't buy it with intention of selling it , I was aware it had issues and needed work done . I'd just like a chance to do that work without having to do a load of work I didn't know it needed.

But the mot is at least one hurdle dealt with and it's hopefully now watertight too. Still a few jobs to do on interior. Electrics obviously and then it should be useable .

I want the underside cleaned up and painted and the body painted but that will come later when on my travels somewhere.

But at least it's now road legal so I can get it down to uncle Lenny HB and do the electrickery.

And this is the installment I've been waiting for :giggler:
Hope the chippy isn't shut for a 2 week summer holiday or it really will be a labour of love! 😂😂
They've had their summer holidays . But I'll have to take a weekend off to go down to lennys. Gives me roughly 10 days off , but I'll need 3/4 travelling days as I'll not do that distance in one day with the dogs .

I was thinking the chippy at Lennys, I thought that was how you paid him 😂

I just might come up and watch… just to make sure it’s done proper like…😆😂😎

thinking of you and mum and rest of the family. Glad you are going for the consultation, I didn't find out the truth about my mum's till years later.
