Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Why on earth did they let you drive away without ensuring it was OK themselves?
No idea. When they phoned to say it was ready they said they'd had it on their own brake rollers etc to check it and that everything was good . But it definitely ain't. Getting fed up with it now ..its like the van is trying to tell me something I've had shitty luck with it since I bought it.

Well once again my bad luck prevails . Garage phoned around 1pm saying camper is ready to collect.

Got my sister to drive me up to collect it.

Bill was £150 but as I paid cash he took £120 . Gets in van to drive home , I thought it felt really sluggish ...got around 5 miles and when stopped at a roundabout looked in the mirror and smoke bellowing out the wheel that required the work done. So I limped back to the garage with it. Everything red hot on that side so brakes are binding on somewhere . It's booked in for retest tomorrow and thats my last day before it requires a full test again .. I'm working tonight so I can't wait on the van , I'll have to leave it overnight again till he investigates and sorts the problem. Sisters going nuts at the waste of time and fuel bringing me up here and now having to come back and collect me.

If not sorted and retested by 3pm tomorrow I have to pay an mot test again.

Just aswell I'm not going to uncle lenny s till next week now

I really don't need this stress and aggro just now it's beyond a joke .
Time for a new garage, if they can’t even test their own work ……..120 pounds gives you less then an hour labour, so he is too quick lol, hope he sorts it free of charge , although I suspect that new parts are needed again if has burned the pads/shoes

2.5 hours labour.

But to be honest I've used 3 different garages over the last couple of years and all have done shoddy work. It's why I prefer to do as much on my vehicles myself when I can as I just don't trust them .

Thanks Tam for posting this. It's so beautiful. Gave me shivers. down my back!
We stayed in the motorhome over the road from the gates to Pompeii for three weeks a few years ago. I couldn't get over the fact that we weren't there like nearly everyone is just for a day or a half day.

Garage called around 4.45 says it looks like the caliper is seized , needs a new one and reccomend changing flexi hose too.

So that's another £125 for a caliper
£15 for a flexi hose.

Will miss my mot deadline so that will be another £50 mot fee and the garage will most likely charge me labour too.

Strange how the service brakes were perfect on its mot and I had no issues with sticking brakes etc before they touched it.

I had him send me photos of the caliper so I could make sure the one I ordered is the same....

Here's the pics he sent , caliper not even rusty and a genuine iveco part .

I suspect its something they've done but I can't prove it.

So yeah I am well pissed off today. I know in the grand scheme of things it's not the end of the world but its £450 I'm having to spend to fix a poor handbrake on one fecking side .

It's shit ....really shit

It will be an ice cream and chocolate night tonight when I finish work

Just aswell I'm not a big drinker

Mothers!!!

She's not right in the head.

Before taking her to asda i needed to go to the toilet ( dodgy takeaway last night )
I went to downstairs toilet she went upstairs .. I'm in the middle of a trotting bowel movement, dogs start going mental , fan in toilet so can't hear much.. then I hear stick banging on floor and faint shouts of Thomas... so I start trying to wipe hastily...... . Finger through paper and everything , rush out toilet thinking she'd fell ...and guess what the panic was .

This was in the bath
Just be grateful it wasn't a spider ... if it was and Smiffy was visiting he'd be screaming like a girl! 😄

Does Lenny have any 'relationship' with the garage ... just wondered if he's as keen to see you as you think?! :giggle:

If the pads have been there a long time the chrome on the pistons would have pitted, when the piston has been forced back in without cleaning off the rust (rookie mistake) no amount of pressure will get it back out😩

Funny you should say that as I really scuffed my hand today while clearing some stuff out of the shed, the biggest most deadliest spider of around half an inch was there about 2 foot away from my hand and whilst making a panicked hasty retreat I squashed my hand between wheelchair wheel and shed door….🤬🤬

After several swings of my spider killing broom I was able to go back in…..😎

Yep the thought has crossed my mind. Can't prove it though and I need it fixed and motd. I will however be taking the old caliper home with me so I can have a look at it. I can get a repair kit for it to overhaul the caliper for £35 so I'll do that and keep it as a spare.

Looking at the state of that hose I would be changing the other 3 as well before going anywhere in the van.
They all fine for mot ...that one was fine too but I guarantee they've had that clamped and the caliper hanging off while they had the disc and hub off the van.

The problem isn't getting the piston out. It's seized out clamping the brakes on that's how they were overheating.

as they’ve fitted new pads the pistons are probably sitting back on the seals on the pitted section and unable to freely move, it doesn’t take much to interfere as they are usually a tight fit anyway.

They haven't fitted new pads. It was the handbrake shoes they were changing , unfortunately to do that they removed the caliper and they will have tied it to the rear spring or chassis while working on the shoes and wheel bearing etc

I hate it when people don’t take responsibility, they know full well that they have caused this and that they didn’t test the vehicle properly before handing it back to you, they should own up to that and get this sorted free of charge.
