Tam n pups winter trip 2022

That made me have a count, only 19, my first brand new one was 1974.
I easily had over 50 before I passed my driving test in 1990 lol. Then I reckon the first year or 18 months I had well over 100. I'd had over 700 by 2015 , probably around 15/20 since 2017

I've had 3 cars since May this year 🤣

You do know that model/toy cars don't count don't you? 😆

Fifteen cars over 55 years so that's about one every three and a half years. Some were only six months or so, others I keep for quite a while. Only one new one out of that lot though. About half of them from auctions.

Roughly worked it out Tam, 750 cars over 34 years works out at around a car almost every fortnight, now that must be a record unless you’re a dealer.
Aye but there were times where I had 5 or 6 at a time. When I was 17/18 I drove mum and dad nuts having a dozen cars parked outside. Never got any hassle back then about cars not being taxed or motd parked on roadside. We've a very wide pavement outside so you could park 2 cars side by side no probs lol.

For many years I never had a insurance policy, 😯 my insurance man got so fed up with me changing my vehicles he would just give me a cover note, 😉 he said when I decide to keep a vehicle more than month I can have one. 😁
The bike policy was far better as it covered all the bikes I owned. 😎

The Spanish have a better system it's the vehicle that's insured, our car was insured when we got it because the previous owner gave up driving and left the insurance on it. 😁 Bob.

It is amazing how many sell on vehicles here with the insurance still on it?

I'd had around 60 when in the Uk but have only had 4 vehicles here since living in spain the last 20 years.

Yeah that's pretty much what Bob ( our coop insurance man and family friend ) did with me , although for first 3 years my dad was policy holder and we had it on any driver. It meant I could drive big American cars and 3.0l granadas, higher powered cars etc at a young age. Never had my own insurance till I was in my twenties.

I've never had a new car. Newest I've had has been 3 years old. Oldest I've had was 52yr old when I bought it. Bought quite a few from auctions but when I was buying the most was when I was an apprentice mechanic and I bought all the trade in cars under 300 quid . Which was a lot . Mostly old ford's, vauxhalls and Austin rover. Taggarts was quite happy for me and the other apprentice to buy them up rather than sending them to auction. Some I bought for as little as £25 but then I earned £54 per week at 18 , £73 a week at 19 lol

Dropped the camper off at the garage this afternoon, wasn't meant to be done till tomorrow but they made a start today. Unfortunately the brake shoes and the seal that I got are not the right ones for this van despite me giving the parts place the reg and the chassis number. So the garage is trying to source the right ones from the iveco dealer in Forfar

Feck sake , it's never simple.

Garage just been in touch

Main iveco dealer wants £300 for a set of brake shoes and a rear wheel bearing ...its apparently the wheel bearing and seal that's gone not the big hub bearing

Ridiculous price so now trying to source the parts elsewhere

Hells teeth Tam, nearly as good as my £40 for an oil filter from Citroen!!!!!! 😳
I found out afterwards it was a ford transit engine in it and bought 5 Mahle filters off eBay for £40 feck you Mr Citroen dealership!!!

Proving hard to find the parts but its also difficult when I've not seen the bits to try and find them online. Ebay comes up with lots of parts that say they fit but really need to compare the old with new and check measurements. The joy if older vans

Tms motor spares have another set of shoes on order for me I can collect tomorrow but they can't get the hub bearing seal . I'll have to drive up to the garage tomorrow for a look and take some clearer pics and measurements.

This van is killing me

All the profit you made recently I would just get it done and move on 👍
Not a chance lol.

Even the garage says those prices are crazy and they're not genuine ivevo parts either .

That will be a last resort.

That profit from volvo already accounted for

I'm just amazed that the garage ,or any garage ,would allow you to supply the parts?
Any that used to would usually only fit with no guarantee or warranty.
The only garage here that I know of that will fit supplied parts does so at your risk with no guarantee & doubles the hourly rate charged.

Aye most of them don't. But on this occasion he had just said if I could get the parts it would save time. In the end it didn't as wrong parts supplied. But he's having difficulty finding them too.

Tam can you get the brake shoes re lined or is that not a thing anymore? Surely classic vehicles get their brakes relined!?
Can’t you take the Wheel bearing to a bearing shop? Sorry if this is old hat…. only trying to help 😁

I'm fairly sure the parts are available there's loads of shoes and bearings listed that state they fit this van on ebay. It's just checking to make sure they're the right part and of course waiting for them to arrive. Its not a rare van there's still plenty about just the local motor factors don't have the parts and many can't be bothered looking for them. The iveco main dealer can get them but typically overpriced.

The shoes are still good but are saturated in oil unfortunately so no good even if we burnt all the oil off it would resurface as soon as they got warm .

I'm going to drive up to garage today and take better photos and some measurements.

I've ordered one wheel bearing kit from ebay that says it's for this van so that might be the one . It's just time that's an issue as garage has taken it back off the ramp for now till get the parts
