Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Never mind the money, you get what you pay for, buy top quality, much cheaper in the long run, and your uncle Lenny wouldn’t use sun standard crap anyway lol 😎
Mostly victron and renogy .

Fogstar battery

I'm wanting stuff I can rely on .

Well we are using some crap to keep the cost down, using a Renogy B2B & inverter as they have a sale at the moment and they are silly prices so if any problems can afford to throw them away.
I know a couple of people with Renogy B2B's and they are working OK & the inverter he is hardly going to use.
Made him buy a Victron Solar controller & Fogstar battery (he is still crying).

What panels are you using?

This van shouldn't be a big power user really.

2 x 200watt renogy solar panels

1x 105ah fogstar lithium battery ( might add another later)
Victron mppt 100/30 solar controller
Victron 30amp mains charger
1000w renogy inverter
Renogy 40amp b2b charger.
Ablemail battery maintainer for the starter battery.

Easier for uncle Lenny to fit two batteries straight off, get it all nicely designed , nice blue led lights to show it off 😎, diesel heater too? Will be such an enormous improvement, can’t believe how messy that wiring is, some people have no pride in what they do👍

3 way fridge & freezer or compressor?
Surely Lenny can leave an expansion space to fit another fogstar in due course?

Power usage is going to be quite low, the heating is a gas fire with a blow air unit on the back so can run without any electric power most of the time.
Only £20 difference between 2 x 105ah & 1 x 230ah, so he wants to see how it goes and he can easily add a second.
As he has the caravan to live in the Motorhome is going to be used 90% of the time in warm climates.

Not fitting 2 batteries at present 1) cost
2) not sure I will need it yet.

Diesel heater maybe later

It's a 3 way fridge and seems to be good on gas and on the 12v supply . Will very rarely use it on 240v.

The heating is a gas fire with the option of using one or 2 fans to circulate the air.

Other than that it's just 12v lights. Water pump and 12v TV and it currently has 1 85ah lead acid battery.

So figured 105ah lithium should be enough. But if not I can add a second one.

Moving all the battery , etc to under the bench seat behind drivers seat. I'm sure there will be plenty space.

Northernraider of all my vans my favourite heating was the escape with a gas fire which could be blown , sounds the same as yours. Instant heat and could be switched off or turned down long before either blown air or, dare I say it the diesel one was warming the place up

My old Eribacar has the same gas fire. I swapped the battery igniter for the 'old fashioned' piezo - simpler and much more reliable.

Yeah I like the idea of the gas fire as without the fan it uses no power .

I will probably fit a diesel heater later as a backup.

I really don't know why vans made today don't seem to have gas fires that can operate without blown air? Seems like you've got the best of both worlds, where you can decide if the fan needs to be operated. (y)

Why has such a practical arrangement fallen out of fashion?

Years back we had a touring caravan with a gas fire and the optional use of a fan - worked a treat. :giggle:

Aye their all combi boilers nowadays.

This has a separate boiler for hot water then the fire for heating with fan to circulate. The caravan has the Same and I think its a power saver.

So sorry to hear about your Mum. I hope it turns out to b a false alarm, but if that’s not the case then I hope all goes as well as ot possible can.

Unfortunately there's very little chance of it being a false alarm. I was trying to convince myself of that last week but too many symptoms etc. The scan on Tuesday will make things a bit clearer. But as there was nothing on the scans she had last year and there's now 3 areas the reality is it doesn't look good.

I've been reading up about it online too as the docs suggested.... the annoying thing Is a few of the symptoms we've been asking about for a couple of years now. She's had this annoying wee cough for at least 2 years, she put it down to her eye drops despite the eye clinic saying they didn't cause a cough ..but now in hindsight I suspect that's been the first sign . Not sure it would have made a lot of difference but who knows.

One bonus of the gas fire, on a cold morning you can turn it on and stand over it with your pj top pulled over it to let the heat warm you up (doesn't work without clothes on!) ... Pure bliss.😄

My week gets better and better

I suspect I've just fell victim to an online shopping scam 🤦‍♂️

Only £60 ,and I paid with my credit card and I contacted bank as soon as it became obvious so I should be covered but these sites are getting really professional.

Its because they take up too much wall space. If you think about it very few vans have the luxury of a m2 or so of space on the wall. You have to have a good clearance between the fire and anything else. Blown air (whilst terrible I agree) is a neat and cheap solution as all the gas/heating is in one place)

For your electrical stuff?
No that was all legitimate. No I spotted an advert on Instagram this morning for a sale on craghoppers. So I ordered a couple of pairs of walking trousers and a packable jacket at a very enticing price .. everything looked legitimate, paid by credit card , had all the ssl secure payment badges etc .

But then when I mentioned it to mum she agreed it seemed very cheap. So I started googling , found the same items in the genuine craghoppers sale at a fair bit more money. Then looked for my confirmation email which was in my spam folder and that didn't look right . So I googled craghoppers scam and found a load of information on it.

Seems its a well known scam site.

Gotta wait 15 days before I can open a dispute for a charge back.

sorry to here about the scam think the worry about your mum may have made you less vigilant thank goodness you used a CC.

I think Scotsue is probably right about your mum. We nearly got caught out the other day in a telephone scam. It caught us at a difficult time when we were distracted by some health things. Luckily we realised in time but the person was very good at their scammy job!

Yeah possibly

Just concerned they have my card details and address etc.

I might be safer canceling my credit card and getting a new one

I'm surprised the bank didn't suggest that. I think I'd feel safer if it was me.
Aye the lassie on the phone from bank was pretty bad this morning to be honest, very quiet lazy talker I had to ask her to repeat things several times . Couldn't have been less interested.

The only bit I got in the end was I had to wait 15 days to open a dispute as they couldn't stop the payment .

I have to go round to the branch today anyway so I'll get them to order me a new card and cancel this one
