Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Hi again Tam
Just keeping up to date with your latest goings on lol
I see you have parking sorted for Sligo Town but if your stuck we used to park at The Blue Lagoon right by the river, sounds very fancy but it's definitely not 😂 but a decent spot few minutes into town centre and good for walking the wee dogs about
Yeah that's about 50 yards from where I've parked. Right on the river. Fairly busy road at the minute but hopefully it will die down. There's not many options here in town so I was lucky to get a space here. Looks like a nice walk along the river to town

Yea it'll quieten down later, probably a bit later as it's Saturday but you'll be dead on down there 👍

I didn't stop at the one right by the pub as I figured that would be noisy on a Saturday but another spot further on that bit road. It should do fine for the one night at least .

Our lunch stop was at Parkes Castle on the banks of Lough gill

Aye he was a little ranty.. I personally never saw any gun . But the girl in the other van was a little shaken up by it.

They got his reg number and photos of the jeep . And a video of him ranting like a headcase .

Thar said I've only seen 2 garda motors in the whole time I've been in Ireland. Not many of them about
The garda will know this guy & might well be delighted to get a report that they can act on. As it happens, just this last week, a murder trial has begun where a particular 'unusual' individual who murdered a garda with a firearm in a random attack. So they are sensitised to the issue.

I'm delighted to see blue skies and great photos, and hope that you are enjoying your Ireland adventure

I've parked in worse spots , OK so it is in view of houses but it's fine for one night , had a walk in to town for a look around, and there's a park looking over the Lough to my left with nice walk for the dogs .

Not much in the actual town to see , lots of pubs and restaurants though and quite a young vibe ..think there's a university here or something lots of young foreigners too.

Might be a place to try a pint of real draft Guinness?
Tomorrow perhaps if I can take my hounds in . The bar along the road has outdoor booths by the looks of things. Imagine they should allow dogs

The further south you travel I reckon you'll enjoy it more... places like Connemara, Galway city, The Burren, Cliffs of Moher etc etc then Killarney and Achill Island the list of nice places is endless 🙂👍

Aye ...I've been enjoying it so far , just the rain can be a pita , but otherwise there seems plenty to see that's for sure. Some parking can be difficult but that said I've always found somewhere to suit. It's definitely a beautiful country.

I did a DNA test recently and found that I'm around 50% Irish (specifically Cork, Kerry & Munster) with a smattering of Welsh and a bit of Cornish, Scottish and Norwegian. It's a pity that it's not possible to obtain an Irish passport based on DNA results.

Such a beautiful country!

If you go to Easky which is not far from Sligo there is an old castle there and parking right by the sea. Don’t know if it’s got a height barrier now, not been for years but if it has you can just park along from the castle right by the sea. You used to be able to climb through the metal grate into the castle and climb up the stairs for a great view. Good pint of Guinness in the local pub and good surf but I know you forgot your surfboard.

Some great course fishing around that area, and good for a cheap dinner… do you fish tam..?

I've never had a dna test done but I'm a weird mix. On my mums side My granny was irish my grandad Scottish, on my dad's side his dad was Scandinavian and his mum English . So I have family all over the place. Including America and Australia. Both my mum and my dad's family were big . Mum is one of 9 and my dad was 1 of 11 😱 both the youngest so unfortunately on my mums side only her and 1 uncle left , dad's side all gone . But I've literally hundreds of cousins.

I do a little yeah . I've 5 bloody rods in this van lol and they've not seen the water since Greece last year . Not caught anything since Portugal 2018 🤣🤣🤣

There is a height barrier but as you say there is roadside parking also.

Tam, the DNA test is very interesting and far more accurate than I anticipated.

I know absolutely nothing about my family only the name of my mother so it's something I want to look into now that I have more time on my hands.

I have DNA matches with people in Ireland but I'm waiting to hear back from messages I have sent them. I got really excited to see DNA matches but now feel slightly deflated as those with the closest match, ie first cousins, haven't actually put their family trees online... so, unless they get in touch, I'm no closer to finding family. It has been good to get some sense of belonging, if not to actual people, to my origins.

Ah, so a little spot of unwinding some birds nests while catching some nice roach and Rudd and hopefully a trout for dinner..🍺😎

Tam, ref wet-weather cloths, have a shuftie round the charity shops, they often have good stuff in them so you might be lucky and get what you need for a fraction of the price.

Have you seen the update from the person who got the visa?

The problem being I wouldn't want to spend 6 months in France...a month at most would be enough for me. I'd prefer a 6 month one for Spain

They didn’t
We spent 130 days in EU, roughly 50 in France, 50 in Spain, the remainder in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium.

With no border checks once you're in France, who is to know where you are? If I've understood it correctly you've still got your 90 day allowance on top, so if stopped in say Spain, well you only crossed the border from France 10 days ago :whistle2:

Aye I suppose that's true , I might look in to that for next time . Not sure I could sort it out for this year

Trouble is you could take 6 months in eu, then you would have 6 months solid out of eu, possibly back here, it could suit some, possibly the snowbirds, but like me even if I was retired I would probably prefer 3 months at different times, but on reflection you could prob do 4 months and then 2 months breaking it up!
Either way it would give a lot more flexibility and choice to a lot more people, so could possibly be a good thing.
It was a big faux par on behalf of the U.K. negotiating team, who quite frankly couldn’t negotiate a deal on a new car🙄
