Tam n pups winter trip 2022

We've just had a 7k walk around Ben bulbin forest Park...what a lovely wee spot , of course it rained again ...why wouldn't it but hey ho it's becoming expected now. I think if I can find a mountain warehouse or something I need to go buy some waterproof trousers.

Got back to the van and as I'm tucked over in the far corner of the carpark I thought I'd put my window fiting clothes airer out to dry my jeans and dogs towel so I don't get smelly damp . And typically a local woman came round past the van and was looking ...after that guy earlier I was expecting her to be negative about it but she started chatting and was very nice actually. ..was charmed by all the doggy faces at the window.

Anyway here's the pics from the walk , there are 2 routes so we will likely do the other one tomorrow morning before we move on to sligo . Nice pics as always tam, get yourself some Jack wolfskin hiking trousers and some gators, the gators are brilliant , they keep the mud of your trousers and the upper half of your boots👍

The guy that shouted at you must have something to hide or is just a nutter. :eek:All the times I have been to Ireland I have never experienced anything but kindness from the Irish. (y)
Aye he probably was ...just pissed me off , if he'd got out that jeep I'd have laid the bugger on his back. There were several small houses on the narrow wee road from there back to the main road and I looked in every drive to see if I could see that motor but I didn't so I'm not even sure he lived at that point . I'm more annoyed that the swine will think I moved because of his threat than the fact I'd planned to move anyway.

OK well I met another Instagram couple last night jess and Marcus @theroadtwospoons and they had also parked at that beach . As I was leaving I sent them a message just mentioning the guy to them and they've just replied saying he's been at them too shouting and waving a bloody shotgun about. He also just threatened to shoot their dogs . They've taken his number and videod him threatening them and are going to hand it to the police so will see what happens .
Silly old sod - that would be a sure fire way to get heavily armed Police at your house over here, and lose your shotgun for good. Not sure how strict the Garda are on these things. Like all rural areas though, if he's a bit of a "local character" you can guarantee they'll know him.

Yeah they said the garda was very interested , they had videod the guy so will see if they hear anything back. There was a big sign saying no camping or overnight parking but that only applies after 8pm as its a protected area . Where I was parked was absolutely fine at that time.

Although I did find a few disappeared when I mentioned I lived in a van .
😂
don't want to start using it too early as its then hard to stop
that's why a diesel heater is good as you can just fire it up to dry the stuff.

**If gran or Mum were registered on the 'Foreign births' register then you would qualify for Irish citizenship.

Aye if I decide I'm going to keep this van I'd be fitting a diesel heater as a secondary heat source. But I'm still undecided. The vario would be a lot more practical I think

Sat here having lunch and I've just had this auld guy pull up in a 4x4 knock on my door and tell me there's no camping here. I told him I ain't camping and it's 1.30 in the afternoon. I'm having lunch , he then starts threatening me telling me if I don't move he will move me 🤣🤣 says " you've a load of dogs in there too ,you better not let them out here" I told him to.piss off and mind his own business I'm having lunch .

He then says you better eat it down quick and move or we'll move ya

So there ya go folks...welcome to feckin Ireland

Incidentally I had zero intention of staying here ... I parked to walk my dogs the same as the numerous other visitors here .
Could your ”friendly“ local with the gun be responsible for the dead dog on the beach?

Well you never know , this other Brit couple here Says they saw 2 signs today they found disturbing. One was hand painted on a big board in a garden "black & tans go home" the other was " dogs off leads will be shot"

Both of them was in that same wee village. I never saw them

Don’t stray from the path…..

he sounds like the local nutter. The garda would definitely be interested in separating him from his gun

You’d better keep Ela on a lead, she’s a black and tan!

Aye he was a little ranty.. I personally never saw any gun . But the girl in the other van was a little shaken up by it.

They got his reg number and photos of the jeep . And a video of him ranting like a headcase .

Thar said I've only seen 2 garda motors in the whole time I've been in Ireland. Not many of them about

Tam, random music post for a Saturday morning. Very much the gentler end of the scale, much gentler than most of my stuff, but you may have heard "Come Over Again" by the Crawlers - it's had some play on Kerrang and other rock music stations - which I rather liked. Just spotted that they've done an acoustic version which I'd venture is even better than the original.

Busy morning today , we were up fairly early so headed off in search of different scenery ...namely waterfalls...I mean after all the rain. It would be daft not to .

So there's a few around here ...on our way we passed this stunning spot on the banks of glencar Lough...where you could park overnight if desired....huge roadside parking with picnic benches etc . Stunning views

And then on to our first waterfall , the devil's chimney which is approx a 40 minute walk/hike from the roadside parking , you can continue up past the official viewpoint which we did but its a very sleepy rocky climb but worth it as you can't see the pool from the official viewpoint. Cracking views down the Glen from up there too

Got chatting to a guy on the walk that was originally from Essex then lived in Glasgow for 5 years and then moved here to sligo about 3 years ago . Ela was having fun with his dog chasing around in the trees.

Then we headed just a few miles down the road to glencar waterfall , it's not quite as impressive and only a five minute walk from the carpark , again another spot you could stay overnight if you wanted. Got chatting to a couple in a Dutch registered motorhome who turned out to be American from sacraments california, they bought the van from friends in Holland in 2019 but because of covid its the first time they've got over to use it so have been on a tour of the UK...England now Ireland and heading to Scotland in a few weeks . I've been told if I get over to the US I'm welcome to.park up and work on their ranch as they struggle to.get workers ... never say never I said. So they've given me their card 😄

Tam,
Others have reported a car park off Cranmore Street where they have overnighted without problems. Its close to Dunnes/Aldi/lidl.

I have one planned that there seems to be no problem parking big vans at so I'm gonna give that a look ...

Hi again Tam
Just keeping up to date with your latest goings on lol
I see you have parking sorted for Sligo Town but if your stuck we used to park at The Blue Lagoon right by the river, sounds very fancy but it's definitely not 😂 but a decent spot few minutes into town centre and good for walking the wee dogs about
