Tam n pups winter trip 2022

To be honest Tam that's all repairable, it'll take some time but I'm sure you'll get it sorted.

If you really want to see how bad they can be do a search for a thread by Wildbill when he had a MH to do up, by heck that was a right mess, but he repaired it and turned it back into a lovely MH.
Aye I saw it at the time , I know there are worse out there. I'll fix it somehow . It won't be perfect but will be watertight hopefully

Flipping heck Tam not like you to get caught, that obviously been leaking for years, a right pain in the arse when you wanted a quick fix so you can get away for the winter.

I had a leaky Lunar caravan once, only 3 years old when I bought it but it was the right price. Had more water in it than the garden pond, had to replace nearly all of one side internal panels, & take all the rails off on the outside, ended up keeping it for 10 years.

I know you had to deal the roof quick but will CT1 have enough flexability for a Motorhome seam?

It says it remains flexible , I've used it a few times on skylights etc and that's what I used for the windscreen . I'm hoping it does the job. Not sure how much movement there will be in that seam . I'll just have to see how it goes.

Now that I've got most of it stripped out it shouldn't take long to rebuild it. But going to remove and reseal that window and the seam down the side before I start to repanel it . Want to have the hose on it etc to make sure it's not still leaking

That's sounding more positive 👍👍

Razamataz is coming through tomorrow to help me remove this big window as the body flexes a bit there at the minute due to me having all the timber stripped out .

Decided to try removing the smallest window myself this morning and cleaning and resealing that.

At least there's no signs of any leaks around that window. The rubber seal however was completely covered in mastic and I couldn't scrape it off without the seal getting damaged so I just removed the seal altogether...I figure with the sealant I was using it would theoretically replace the seal anyway .... I did however go a bit overboard with the sealant and it took me an absolute age to clean off all the excess... Still a bit of that to clean once it's set as I think it might be easier .

Then continued stripping out around the wall I've to repair.

This is starting to feel more like a restoration than anything else . Gotta remove so much stuff to get access to bits that need work

Hi Tam once all of the windows are in and sealed might be worth doing what IH motorhomes used to do, they masked around window and body leaving a 6/8 mm gap then run sealant around, soapy water spray and a wet finger to wipe off afterwards leaving a nice tooled finish then remove the masking tape, it looked very neat and might cover a few unsightly bits of the old frame etc.

Yes I had planned to do that just to be on the safe side. A few of the frames are scratched and I had originally thought I would spray them when removed ...but I've so much other stuff to do I've decided against painting them . I'll run a bead of sealer round them all once seated

He's a professional photographer and like the pics of the van I think he's enhanced and edited her photo too lol.
Whatever, she still looks too old for you Tam :ROFLMAO: and for what it's worth I think you are a better photographer(y)

I think this also highlights the benefit of inner and outer aluminium wall/roof construction too, as opposed to timber inner walls.
Also once you have had one with inner alloy walls you certainly notice the difference so much warmer in the winter.

A lot of vans that are now wood free weren't at that the vintage of your one.
Yeah but that's the brochure for this van lol.

Have you got a wall you can get the van close to so you can brace the outside wall when you refit the internal wallboard?
Otherwise you might end up with a curved wall.
Don't ask how I know.
No but I reckon it should be okay. I'm only patching the board in as I can't remove the whole section without dismantling that whole side of the van .

It's all just glued in place and I'm going to have to put a second board over the top like had been done before to make it look OK.

Current state.

Lots of heavy rain last night and no sign of any leaks yet. ...im fairly certain that seam on the roof was the culprit as its in the right area for where the water damage is. But wont be certain till ive sealed everything up and then blast the van with a hose. Im not replacing this wood till ive done that.

Will reseal all skylights and those two trims that run from roof to floor. I can't see anywhere else on the roof that would let water in.
