Tam n pups winter trip 2022

I think he made an arrangement with Canterbury CC when covid hit and to be fair the P&R has never been that busy since. It used to be rammed on a Saturday but it's barely half full these days. There are no signs with time restrictions on display there.

It's a Saturday night place for us if we've got nothing better to do, we live about 30 mins drive away, so we can go into town and have a drinkie & something to eat.

Cheeper then a taxi home….🍻😎

That wiring looks like a complete bodge. Have to agree with Lenny HB rip it out - move hab battery (under seat?) and start again having first labeled all the wires so you know what to reconnect.

The joy of older vans ...

Leaks

And that isn't the worst one.

Think I've bought a whole load of problems with this van.

I'm meant to move in to this next week , 😩

Buy another case of sikaflex, looks like you'll need it 😲
Is that a roof light ?

No that's the window on the left hand side. Problem is the roofs been leaking on that side too but hidden as there's an additional fabric covered panel on that side . Won't know how bad it is around the window till I remove the window .

What is the wall roof construction is there any timber in? What sort of insulation is in, what is the internal walls/roof made of

It looks a well constructed van

Is the race van still for sale? ;)

It's sandwiched aluminium polystyrene and plywood inside. I'm suspecting the roof join gas leaked or one skylight. But the wood above the window behind the other panel is rotten and wet .

From the look of the other one on ebay its had the same issue. The other side seems solid which leads me to think it's the join on this side that's leaking. Its still wet so I assume it's still leaking . Hopefully my sealant arrives tomorrow and I can get on the roof tomorrow afternoon and seal it up. If the rain stays off

One small bit good news was I successfully sealed the windscreen and made it look better in the process

Before

After

And while the rain was on , wired up the new lights

That was before I discovered the wet wall.

I'm guessing this seam is the cause

Always hated those rubber insert joints as the always leak eventually. So that will be the first bit to get cleaned up and sealed. I think I might just fill the channel with sikaflex rather than replacing that rubber insert.

This is the damage done inside. Had no option but to just take it apart , for some reason this side of the van has an upholstered panel over the top of the wall board so it's been leaking for years unseen .

And it's most likely the Same behind this panel inside the locker

And probably around the window. Won't know the extent till I strip it all out.

Nightmare, and more work than I ever expected. But now I've found it I have to try and fix it.

No way the shit that sold me it never knew it was leaking as the patch under the window would be noticeable every time it rained.
Have stripped out around the skylight and that's dry so my money is on that seal on the roof

That’s a neat job you’ve done what did you use for the windscreen seal?
It's a bonded screen so I just cleaned out the channel and sealed it with ct1, then fitted the plastic trim back in . The amount of rain today it seems to have worked. . One bit at a time I guess. Might have to get a caravan to live in for the minute though. . I had thought about buying one and leaving it here fulltime anyway as it would always be handy to have a spare room lol.

At least you’ll know it’s all been done professionally properly….😎
Aye ..it better be feckin worthwhile though.

That rotten wood would worry me on how far the damp has gone. Can you see good wood.

Yeah that's why I need to strip it all out . Can't see anything because it has that fabric covered secondary panel over the top going the full length of the sofa on that side. To remove it I need to take the locker off the wall and remove the window on that side.

Wow you are certainly correct there’s a whole load of work to be done on this one.

Yep and it wouldn't be so bad if I'd had an idea beforehand as it now has no mot etc. Hardly any gas in the gas bottles and I'm gonna need the heating on in it to try and dry out this side before I can repair it.

It's a bloody nightmare to be honest. ...hardly slept a wink last night.

Can you not flog it on and get your money back?
Nah , I can't do that. I've just got to get it sealed up and then repair it. And hope that it's worth the effort and work involved once done.

I'm certain the guy knew it was leaking, he may not have known the extent of the damage but when I spoke to him on the phone originally if he had said then that it had leaks I'd probably not have bought it.

He told a lot of lies. He claimed to have taken it to France 4 times last year to his alleged second house. He also claimed he had the upholstery etc done . And a lot of other stuff that turned out to be bullshit. Its only done 1500km since last july mot. He bought it in October last year. The upholstery whilst it has been done it is at least 3 or 4 years old .

I knew when I got there that it needed a bit of work doing but as I'd payed a deposit and went down on the train etc I thought just have to suck it up and sort it out. But it's a lot worse in places than I expected. It can all be fixed , it's just the time involved and the extra expense . The time being the biggest issue as hopefully the euramobil gets collected next week. I have it's mot this morning ( hopefully no issues)

Can't win em all as they say.
