Tam n pups winter trip 2022

I understand how you feel. whenever I sell anything I am 100% up front with good and bad and that’s how I would like peaple to be with me if I am buying something. (y)
Yeah I mean I asked him when I was there to tell me everything warts and all and he just lied through his teeth.

So now I'm discovering things everywhere needing attention.

Didn't you check it when you went for it before handing over the dosh?

Off topic from vans, but not Scotland, and funny - an American wine connoisseur makes the mistake of reviewing Buckie.

To fully enjoy it you need to drink it at night time in the local park while wearing one of those jackets with the tinted goggles in the hood.

Good stuff is the Buckie!

You bought it cheap, just think from the off that everything needs doing, a van of that age needs investment, if not done by the previous owner it will be you, it’s nice to have a blank canvas, just strip all the rubbish parts out of it and get some proper quality gear, the last thing you want when travelling is having to repair stuff every other day👍

Oh stop moaning boy and get on with it! What did you expect in a van that old and for that price? The more work you do on it now,the better you’ll like it when you’re cruising over to Croatia with the dawgs asleep in the back and your fav music blaring out.
Anyway, you’ve got to keep uncle Lenny busy with something when you cock up the leccie ;) ;););)

I did but obviously I was keen to get on the road.

I was aware of a lot of it. Just the blatant lying bit that's pissing me off.

Unless he lied about the welding Tam got a bargain. We know Tam will redo pretty much everything anyway :giggle:
The welding he couldn't lie about as it was advised on the mot. It's all the stupid stuff that's annoying me . I could have lost a battery driving up the road as neither are secured . And the dodgy wiring could have started a fire.

There's nowt I can't sort I just wish when I asked for any known issues he'd been upfront .

When the guy collected the vario yesterday I showed him every niggle , like the faulty fuel gauge. The fast idle valve etc etc so he was aware.

If I lived closer to Gainsborough I'd go round and give him a slap lol

Here's a few not so nice photos.

The leisure battery and spaghetti mess of hab electrics. ...leisure battery is located under the bonnet which I think will make increasing the bank difficult. Not sure of my options here. Would a lithium battery be OK under the bonnet uncle Lenny HB ?

Not sure what my power useage will be in this van , it has a gas fire that doesn't use electric unless you put the fans on to blow it round the van. Normal fridge, currently replacing all lights with led ones. Shurflo water pump. TV, few USB, 12v sockets etc. And I'm considering a diesel heater as a second heat source. Really don't fancy moving all the wiring as that's above my skill level. So I was thinking maybe a 100/160ah lithium battery instead.

I need to remove it and clean up that tray, paint it and make some sort of retaining braket or strap.

Starter battery , looks fairly new but have to make up some way of securing it. Also repair that hole on the inner wing. It's not structural or anything to do with mot etc it's just unsightly.

And the hole on the inner wing that's been advised on the mot the last 4 years or so. It isn't structural or near any suspension components etc so it won't cause a failure but will just get worse and it looks a mess.

I'm not welding it as I no longer have welding gear. So I'm going to cut the rust out , clean it up and repair it with aluminium and pop rivets and then cover it with seam sealer and stone guard spray.

Although the wireing looks a bit rough it all looks pretty straightforward and well fused , doesn't look to difficult to straighten out.

Aye hopefully it just needs tidying up. It would be an absolute headache to relocate it all inside the van somewhere .

How much is the Canterbury park and ride per night? Can't be a very cost effective way to have the same car park view every day!

If you get a Lithium with a built in heater it would probably OK but not something I would do.

The wiring looks a mess but most of it is what's been added. There is probably only 3 sets of basic wires to it, the hab distribution unit, the split charge relay & fridge relay.
It will be easier to move than you think, in a van of that age the wiring will be pretty simple.
Just rip it all out and start again.

Lol aye maybe to you. It's making me nauseus just thinking about it. I wouldn't even know where to start.

There's also the challenge of where to relocate it to . There isn't a great deal of under seat storage etc.

Quite cheap then , not many places you'd get rent for £28 a week. Although I'm surprised no one complains at him taking up 4 parking spaces
I think he made an arrangement with Canterbury CC when covid hit and to be fair the P&R has never been that busy since. It used to be rammed on a Saturday but it's barely half full these days. There are no signs with time restrictions on display there.

It's a Saturday night place for us if we've got nothing better to do, we live about 30 mins drive away, so we can go into town and have a drinkie & something to eat.

As Chalie says, at least he fitted plenty of fuses ! The "air cooled" relay at the top left in picture one looks interesting, I wonder what it powers ?
Aye I've not checked that one out yet.

I'm starting with the wiring to the starter battery and tracing them back etc. Found a few cables that aren't connected but all taped and cable tied to others that are .. it will be a long process I think
