Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Oh well Tam. Glad to har you'll still be on here anyway even if you do have to be a bit cautious because of idiots.
A friend of mine is trying to sell her house and is totally fed up with time wasters either making appointments and not turning up, criticising her house on social media, trying to bully her in to accepting a lower price, or agrreeng to buy it and then more or less vanishing. Just the same as you're experiences buying and selling motorhomes.
Aye I said it before there's a lot of mental illness out there these days.

Some folk have a weird way of entertaining themselves often at others expense.

The vario is no longer sold either and he's lost his £250 deposit.

This is the King of timewasters. Remember I wasn't selling the van , he approached me wanting to buy it back ...then has spent over a month wasting my time.

So he's been told to feck off. I now would not sell him it back if he was the last person on earth.

Misses just decided she wants to sell our van and get a bigger one so grandkids can fit but this is putting me right off would probably be easier to sell the grandkids and keep the smaller van

When we bought a new van once the dealer told us to come to pick it up on the Saturday as they were giving a food and drinks buffet for the buyers/potential buyers, when we got there the room was closed and no sign of any food when I asked where me flippin buffet was the salesman said "It's all gone. The room filled up quickly with families with kids and they ate the lot then fecked off" Bored/lazy parents who found a good way of feeding the kids and letting them run around in and out of the motorhomes. Some people will do anything for a free day out.

This year we had a customer wanting a bespoke fireplace and gas fire, we'd spent ages with them, photoshopped it, phone calls, emails, multiple visits to the showroom...... Eventually placed an order, deposit paid, tried then to get the price lowered - we couldn't do that as we'd already given 'best price'.

A few weeks later they rang saying they'd had a family emergency and now couldn't go ahead. We returned the deposit in full.

A few weeks ago we had a lengthy emailed complaint from the same customer complaining about the workmen, the fireplace, they were 'devastated' with everything and we hadn't even the courtesy to inspect the shoddy work. Half a page of complaints

The 'customer' had taken our photoshopped image to a different company to get the job done cheaper.

Eventually we pointed out that they had cancelled the order with us and should take the complaint elsewhere.

The emailed reply was simply "Thank you", no apology

Hey this could be a good business line, advertise loads of stuff on a site time wasters often frequent, take plenty of deposits and keep the merchandise when they back out.

It’s really strange how if they are timewasters they part with a deposit though?

The timewasters didn't part with a deposit. They just pretended they were buying it right up till the point they needed to pay a deposit

Only this idiot who owned the van before who clearly does not have the money to buy it back and thinks ill hold on to it for 2 months with a 250 quid deposit lol

Tell him to send all the money and you will keep it as long as he wants.

We bought our first joint van witth the grandchildren in mind 6 berth 6 seatbelts, have changed twice once to a 4 berth 4 tonner with a garage and now a 4 seatbelt coach built, the make p 'double bed is barely big enough for 1, we knew when we bought it.
What about the grandkids? When little I slept in the awning with some them, as time went on they, all but one, are old enough to sleep there on their own. eldest three 20,18,16, still come away with us as do the youngest two 13 and 9, the middle ones, both girls dipped out when they became more interested in being with their friends.
Just trying to say, keep the one you have if it suits you or buy one for you both which can be utilised for you all.
John does take his car with us as we only holiday in the UK with them. Did like the 6 berth when they were young though.

Selling the in-laws caravan a while back, bloke comes to see it, loves it, puts down a £200 deposit then off he goes. Then I get radio silence - nothing. Eventually I found out when he got home his missus went barmy at him agreeing to buy it without her seeing it. He wanted his deposit back but was told to jog on, he'd messed me about and cost me 3 weeks when I could have been selling it to others. His £200 paid for the adverts though

I said that to him and got a lot of excuses. He doesn't have the money Charlie that's why he was trying to swap me that other motorhome, then an old merc sl500 , he thinks he's Arthur daily but is a pilloc

I'm surprised he didn't blame "her indoors" :giggle:

I was just thinking this morning about the prices of motorhomes I've had in the past and how the prices still vary
I had loads of campers between 1990 and 2009 and lots of caravans ....then I tried a motorhome for more space

I owned this in 2010 ...it was 2003 , 28000 miles and I paid £25k for it

These still fetch £25-30k today

I then had a 1995 euramobil activa for a year around 2012 that I paid £7500 for ... it was a damp leaky bucket... no photos of it sadly. Probably still worth the same today

Then I had this one in 2013 , a mobilvetta eurayacht 190lx , year 2000 and I paid £15k for it don't see many for sale nowadays but the last I did see was £19k

Had another few campervans mostly vw

Then the next motorhome was the frankia I bought in 2017. 2008 ,32000 miles I paid £37000 for it . They still fetch £38-45k today
20200913_095810.jpg

Then the hymer 654 I bought in 2018 for £18k , 2004 , 99000 miles , still fetch around £30k today

Then the iveco panel van conversion.

And then the euramobil I'm currently in , 2006 , 28000 miles paid £😁 , still fetch £28-35k

And now the new one I've bought

Details to be added later .

But it seems that there's no sense to it

I mean in 2010 that burstner was only 7 years old and £25k

It's now 20 years old and still fetches the same price

The frankia was 9 years old , now 15 years old and still the same price

So cmon tell me your motorhome history .

Might as well make the end of this thread interesting as I will be starting a new one when I get the new van and this one has gone

My first motorhome was a Hymer B544, 2003. Bought in 2015 off a funster. Still have it today and still very pleased with it. Very reliable, never let me down, only ever needed, brake pads, tyres etc. No silly sensor lighting up the dash.
I bought as a 'taster' to see if I took to motorhoming thinking I'd swop it after a year or two for something else.
I still look around at other models but none really take my fancy and for what I'd have to pay, I haven't been able to justify changing.
I do admire your ability to sniff out a bargain to though

Our first one 2008 Hymer Tramp Gold edition bought new £47k, sold 6 years later for £36k, probably worth at least that now.
Hols June 09 010.jpg

2nd one Hymer Exsis i678 bought new in 2014 £58k, traded 3 years later £52k.

3rd 2017 Hymer i678 Dynamic Line worth nearly £80k at 6 years old (won't say what I paid as subject to a trade at the moment).

All three personal imports saved around £50k by importing myself.

I started with converted VW T4, cost me £7,200, i added a pop top, fridge and heater for about £2,400, then an elderly lady drove it to the back of it while it was parked at about 30mph as I had my hand on the door handle about to get in, writing it off, I got £12,000 from the insurance company and didn't have to deal with timewasters 😂

I now, for the last 9 years, have a VW Karmann Colorado, year 2000, paid £15k for it, still worth that and more, have seen them for sale for as much as £26k over the last 2 or 3 years.

I don't have a long motorhome history like many but
In 2015 I bought an Ace [Swift] Moderna 2002 at the Peterborough motorhome show for £17.5k
[ unresearched  a completely spontaneous purchase]
01 Outside.jpg

Two years later, I traded it in for £19k for my current Wildax PVC purchase price £50k

Six years on, used, they're selling at more than I paid new

Madness

Tam, out of all of the (many) vans you have owned, which one would you say was your favourite?
Hmmm that's the million dollar question.

And I'm not sure I can answer it. I've always changed vans because circumstances changed etc.

Maybe I'm still looking for my favourite van.

Although this one I loved for the all round practicality of size , but well fitted
