Tam n pups winter trip 2022

The 60 grand one is one of the ugliest I've ever seen on the outside, inside looks nice but very odd layout.

Personally Im afraid I don't see the attraction to these vans, whatever you do to them they are still 30 years old technology with all the rust and noise and slow, what is it that folks pay that money for one.?

It's very plain on outside . I don't like the side door .
Yes, that plus the awful colour scheme and ugly window and ridiculous orange light on the roof, oh and while we are on the roof did they just have an oversize solar panel lying around that they didn't know what to do with? 😂

They're apparently getting a hard time on the Facebook vario groups lol.

I think it's currently the most expensive vario advertised in the UK.

Right

I want to try living and travelling for 12 months in a van this size with 3 dogs to see how practical it is.

I just need 60k sponsors at £1 or 30k at £2 lol

Or 10k at £6 🤣🤣

I like the layout of this and its compact size.

Your mate in Ireland has one just like that he could lend you.

Same colour but completely different layout etc .

That one has a good size shower, bed and fully fitted kitchen . Not as much storage as a big van but it's well designed for being a 6 metre.

Tam, I have a 2013 Possl on a lhd Citroen Jumper and this is the same layout.
So the possl, globecar series could also be in the running. Yours seems like a low bed height which means smaller garage but may be easier for the dogs to get on. Our van has a higher bed which I need a plastic step to get up on but ok and enough room not to bang your head on the ceiling if bedroom acrobatics are called for ( I’m 66 not Deid) The bed also folds up if you wanted to transport van size stuff(ladder, bike, kayak) in an emergency, bit of a faff but do able.
Still takes up 2 parking spots at Tesco lengthwise! But fits in the cal Mac upto 6m cat on the ferries. Myself I would go for the 6m 40 van if touring abroad, the dogs will appreciate it. Troll the internet for a 6.40m van with the 3.0 litre iveco engine mebbe even with a very high top as your a six footer👍😁

We bought one as a try at downsizing two adults and one small dog, went to a pub stop for a tryout and that was it, couldn’t swing a cat when you undressed for bed there was no where to put your gear. Put it up for sale and sold it within a day at £1k profit so not all bad.
Lots of folk love them.

You are better off with a 6m Coachbuilt IMO. Like Littlewheels says they are teeny weeny and unless they have good insulation and proper double glazed windows, freezing or boiling.

We fancy a slimline coachbuilt next time like this

We are thinking of downsizing the van because every property we look at has tight parking

That’s the main reason I’ve not got a Hymer s820 dream motorhome as I only have 6.3m parking space outside the flat in Portugal and it’s usually rammed 😐

He's not sure about mine Lenny HB in case some of the 12v electrics are dodgy....... 😂🤣

To be honest I've come to the conclusion I have absolutely no idea what I want .

But I do know I don't have it at the minute

I have a sort of checklist.

Fixed bed
Big proper waterproof shower , no wood in there or waterproof wallpaper it has to be a plastic lined spacious shower.

Good heating

Good batteries, with solar so I don't need to rely on hookup

Comfortable to drive and have a decent lounge seat even if that's the cab seats

An oven
A decent size fridge freezer.

Decent ground clearance

I would prefer a lhd
I would prefer rwd
I'd prefer a merc or iveco chassis

And preferably 7 meters max

And of course a decent amount of storage and payload. I'm trying to clear out all the stuff I don't need to carry.

I came to that conclusion years ago about you…😆😂

It’s a tall wish list and could be why you haven’t found it or I suspect you just buy the vehicle at the time that’s going to do for your next trip…
I think the only way your going the get what you want is to build it yourself… and if that doesn’t work then there’s no hope..🙄😎

That sounds like a sensible start. Can I add two make that three other things you may want to consider?
  • do you want to be able to sit up in bed without banging your head on cupboards above?
  • do you want to carry a bike/scooter in internal garage or behind?
  • Fridge electric or electric/gas?

Tam, I don't think a 6mt pvc is going to suit you or the dogs.
We had one as our first van and when we sold that got a 6.4mt. one and it makes a lot of difference but the are still compromises to be made.
One of the best 6mt vans I ever saw was an A class elegance but they have not been made for a few years.
To wide for our drive.

Aye I think 7 metres is the golden size to be honest. I just liked the look of that van

Yes I'd like a bed I can sit up in preferably without a window behind headboard too.

Not sure about bike/scooter yet. I've kept hold of my carrier just incase .

Fridge I think is better on electric and gas. It's my biggest power user at present . No issues in summer but in winter if I wasn't moving every day or two it would run my battery bank down in about 4 days if raining or really cloudy.

That's why I find all these self builds with only 3 or 4 panels and a compressor fridge claiming fully off grid to be liars

Mine is fully offgrid for approx 9/10 months but the other 3 it's only 90% offgrid if not charging with b2b

Aye but it's getting the right self build too. I love the vario looks and style but I'm still uncertain and the uncertainty is what's stopping me from committing.

While travelling I think I'd be fine , it's when I'm home I think I'd struggle.

Looks like an iveco then with the 3 litre engine and hi top, self build ( you or someone else) 👍😁

Anyway are ye no gettin ahead of yersel or have you sold the euramobil already 😉

Just a thought would a ex supermarket delivery van be an option should be insulate, you could make it look lower by adding side storage boxes, if done well could look quite off road, I have seen some lately with the roof coming over the cab as well so should be able to form the opening between quite easily, not sure of the length though just had a quick look seem to be from 8k for a Mercedes

I would never be paying 65k for a van lol so you can relax .

I plan to be spending a lot less than what I'm selling mine for
